Is this sweet boy a British Shorthair cross? Or just a moggie?

I took a photo that shows he has a very stocky muscular body, a short thick tail and quite short legs but I’m waiting for it to upload.
He doesn’t have the classic smile but has very distinct cheek pads.

He’s a stray that we’re adopting. He hasn’t been neutered and was in quite bad condition with mites and ticks, poor baby. He’s got a very placid nature and has quickly gone from frightened to responsive.
anyone with BSH/moggie cross to compare?

He's lovely, but I suspect he's a moggie!

TheHatinaCat · 28/04/2022 14:55

Looks like a moggy to me!

SalsaLove · 28/04/2022 14:56

He’s gorgeous! Moggies tend to be hearty and healthy so I would hope for that. Has he seen the vet yet?

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2022 14:56

Actually he's not a cat. He's a raccoon.

chisanunian · 28/04/2022 14:58

What colour are his eyes? BSH tend to be either gold/copper or blue.

CarrieCookie · 28/04/2022 14:59

He's 'just' a moggy, just as nature intended 🤗

MallampatiCatty · 28/04/2022 15:00

He looks like a moggy (we've had BSHs for over 15 years!)

But he will likely be healthier as a moggy than a BSH. And he is gorgeous - hope you all have a brilliant time with him :)

puddlesofmothers · 28/04/2022 15:02

An exotic moggy I would say.

ISpyCobraKai · 28/04/2022 15:04

I'd say Mog, but a v gorgeous one.

learieonthewildmoor · 28/04/2022 15:04

If he was a raccoon, he’d have a pointy face 😂
He’s developed a chest like a pit bull in the time we’ve been feeding him. Those are earlier photos, though you can see his short legs.

The new site is a total bust if we can’t post photos of our cats!

Going to look carefully at his eyes

Moggy and all the better for it. 😼

My cats refuse to post the right way up on the new site too...

Costacoffeeplease · 28/04/2022 15:13

Sorry to hijack but does this boy look like a British short hair? He was also a stray that we found, unneutered, skinny and covered in cuts, and took in.

He’s very calm and a beautiful big chunk now

Golden green eyes.

Never had a cat with this body type. He’s solid. Very short fur.

That’s my boy’s big brother 😊

Personally I think he's a spider. The grip he has on that ceiling is unreal

He looks like a moggy to me too. A very handsome one! If male cats aren't neutered until later they can get quite stocky and muscular due to all the testosterone, often with a chunky head too.

CarrieCookie · 28/04/2022 15:29

@Costacoffeeplease I'd say your boy looks very exotic, he's got some pedigree in him I would have thought, possibly BSH.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/04/2022 15:32

Actually the real question should be 'is my British Short Hair a moggy'. Since the BSH breed was developed from UK DSH (moggy) cats it isn't surprising that 'BSH features' appear regularly in domestic cats.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/04/2022 15:32

@CarrieCookie thanks, he’s so different from all the other cats we’ve had (we’re not in the U.K.) and does fit a lot of the criteria for a BSH but we found him living rough and in a pretty sorry state.

KatherineJaneway · 28/04/2022 15:33

I love the fact he can walk on the ceiling. I do hope you called him Lionel?

learieonthewildmoor · 28/04/2022 15:34

Ah, that explains it Vinorossi.
He’s booked in to the vets next week for his snip.
photos seem to work better on my phone 🧐
