Is this sweet boy a British Shorthair cross? Or just a moggie?

I took a photo that shows he has a very stocky muscular body, a short thick tail and quite short legs but I’m waiting for it to upload.
He doesn’t have the classic smile but has very distinct cheek pads.

He’s a stray that we’re adopting. He hasn’t been neutered and was in quite bad condition with mites and ticks, poor baby. He’s got a very placid nature and has quickly gone from frightened to responsive.
anyone with BSH/moggie cross to compare?

I love the fact he can walk on the ceiling. I do hope you called him Lionel?

😂

Reallyreallyborednow · 28/04/2022 15:40

Why does it matter?

Vinorosso74 · 28/04/2022 15:42

He will likely still have that tom cat smell after neutering but that will soon go.
I think Lionel quite suits him but I now have dancing on the ceiling in my head 😄

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2022 15:45

@Costacoffeeplease he does look like he has some BSH in him.

TheHatinaCat · 28/04/2022 15:47

He's gorgeous!

viques · 28/04/2022 15:51

He is lovely, he is what I call a typical London black and white. They are lovely solid cats, often a lot more sensitive emotionally than their bruiser appearance suggests. And the ceiling work is remarkable, get him signed up to an agency as a stunt cat.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/04/2022 15:56

I've always thought BSH Cats are moggies! TBH though, I couldn't care less what 'type' of cat mine are, they're just gorgeous cats! Is there a difference?
Agree that unneutered toms will be heavier built.
I'd call him a tuxedo cat, because he has a white shirt and black jacket on!

iklboo · 28/04/2022 15:59

He's a mogster like one of my boys.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/04/2022 16:23

He’s just got a fully matured male body, a lot of them are castrated so they don’t seem to develop the full chunkiness.

Ime B&W are total lap cats.

You’re confusing domestic shorthairs with British shorthairs: the former are moggies the latter is a specific pedigree breed

both the cats photographed here are(very lovely) moggies but both definitely the grey and white boy have some BSH genes in them I suspect

eurochick · 28/04/2022 16:41

I vote moggie!

But the grey and white cat I would say has some BSH genes in the mix. The coat and eyes have BSH traits.

chisanunian · 28/04/2022 16:48

He looks like a moggy to me.

learieonthewildmoor · 28/04/2022 17:07

To the poster asking why it matters, I was wondering why he has such a different body type to all the other cats I have had. Chonky rather than lean.
He’s a super sweet boy. He is not called Lionel 😂

@Whiskeypowers Thanks for the explanation. I have muddled them up, not concentrating!

Also agree, B&W cats are big softies.

TheHatinaCat · 28/04/2022 18:59

A friend and a neighbour both have black and white cats and they are both very chunky. Seems to be a pattern for black and white boys.

I'm loving the cat photos!

NorthernPlights · 28/04/2022 19:08

He is the absolute spit of a half-dead flea ridden stray moggy that found his way into our family 11 years ago, and that has ended up being the best cat we've ever had 😁
I wish you many years of joy ahead with him, and hope we still have many with our beautiful older boy too 🥰

NorthernPlights · 28/04/2022 19:11

Oh I forgot to say his body type is the same - short legs, broad chest, round face, very soft fur. Like a PP says I think it must be a common morphology for these Tuxedo cats.
Makes them the absolute pick of the bunch IMO.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/04/2022 19:11

Not all B&W's are big! We have a very slim mouser who quite likes a fight 😬 Hence the top of his head!

Haha! Ours is a scrappy mouser, too!

(Hope yours heals soon)

Notdoingthis · 28/04/2022 19:35

Costa cat is very handsome.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/04/2022 20:42

Thank you. He’s called Omar

KenaSpirit · 28/04/2022 21:01

Gorgeous cats. For comparison my blue BSH - she’s very stocky and I do see a similarity in the body shape and face shape.

Other cat - litter brother to the first pic I posted. Vet thinks he may have some Persian in him?

Cat in the first pic is very, very chatty.

Better angle. He doesn't respect my personal space 😄
