Would your overlords recommend a cat drinking fountain, or not?

Madam Oldcat loves drinking fresh water and does not feel that I refresh her bowl often enough. Sometimes, at night, my bedside glass will do, but she will comment loudly if it is not up to standard.

I wondered if she might appreciate a cat water fountain. Does anyone have any useful feedback on these machines, from their furry masters?

I have indoor cats and they use it much more than when we used to have bowls. Worth the money. They aren’t that expensive so worth trying!

nordica · 13/02/2022 21:11

Only if you don't mind the noise of the constant movement of water. It drove me crazy.

MadrigalCorp · 13/02/2022 21:15

No, we got one and it was so noisy it irritated us made me need a wee and the cat was scared of it. Sent it back and Her Maj reverted to licking sparrowy puddles, which are obviously better than nice clean water in a bowl.

birdglasspen · 13/02/2022 21:18

Cat drank out of everything but fountain, toilet, sink, bath, glass.....

marlowe5 · 13/02/2022 21:20

Mine used it as a foot spa. Quite annoying. And was accompanied by little muddy feet all around it and very regular replacement of the filters which were dealing with garden Earth rather than the normal business of a water filter.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/02/2022 21:22

Mine LOVED his. He loved hitting the water and pouncing on the drips.

He misses it Sad

hippopot · 13/02/2022 21:23

My cats now drink far more.

A worthwhile investment as far as I am concerned but if you're worried your cat might not use it buy a second hand one at a lesser cost to test first

RandomMess · 13/02/2022 21:25

Mine would only use it the day it was dismantled and all cleaned and 100% clean water 🙄

Somuchchoice · 13/02/2022 21:25

We have a stainless steel water fountain and our 2 cats lurve it! It has a tall spout which they drink from as well as drinking from the water that pools on the surface before it goes back into the container. Ours is silent and can also go in the dishwasher for cleaning.
We used to have a plastic one that they also liked but it was noisy and harder to clean.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/02/2022 21:27

My Dcat only drinks running water (of course) so loves her fountain

knitnerd90 · 13/02/2022 21:28

2 of mine adore it. The 3rd prefers to drink out of his humans' glasses.

CeeeeHo · 13/02/2022 21:29

My boy likes to drink from the tap. So I thought I’d treat him to a nice water fountain. I bought a lovely ceramic cat fountain. Nice and quiet, filter that doesn’t need refills. Needless to say, he won’t go near the thing. So he’s back to jumping up on the kitchen drainer asking for freshly run tap water. I really don’t know why I bother!

CornedBeef451 · 13/02/2022 21:29

@Somuchchoice what brand do you have?

We had a plastic one but it was really loud and hard to clean, I eventually snapped and chucked it in the bin.

AlexandraPeppernose · 13/02/2022 21:29

We've had 2. She refused the first and loves the 2nd. We have the cat mate one.

MulticatHouse · 13/02/2022 21:29

Yes they love it.
We have this one.

RandomMess · 13/02/2022 21:38

One would only drink out the running tap the other a fresh glass of water.

We have this one:
Stainless Steel Water Fountain

downbad · 13/02/2022 21:43

Yes, I’ve had two very different cats and they’ve both loved it (as does the puppy!)

StartingGrid · 13/02/2022 21:45

We have three of the petmate fountains, the leadership recommend them!

Wolfiefan · 13/02/2022 21:50

Ours prefer to have filtered water from the glasses humans have poured for themselves.
This human wonders if a fountain would be a good compromise. And would stop terrible tortie dragging the water bowl across the floor and emptying it. Hmm

Drybird2020 · 13/02/2022 22:07

Thank you all!

Oldcat was upset when we got the drippy tap fixed. I think I have to at least try one of these things as penance.

@Somuchchoice thanks I'll check it out. I really need something easy to clean!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/02/2022 22:35

Yes. My two love theirs.

Oh god, mine would totally do this! 😆
