Would your overlords recommend a cat drinking fountain, or not?

Madam Oldcat loves drinking fresh water and does not feel that I refresh her bowl often enough. Sometimes, at night, my bedside glass will do, but she will comment loudly if it is not up to standard.

I wondered if she might appreciate a cat water fountain. Does anyone have any useful feedback on these machines, from their furry masters?

The human slaves must change the filters and this particular human slave would forget
Royalty were also partial to drinking unattended glasses overnight
So the Royalty have a large water dispenser which is easier and they enjoy

My car would only drink out of taps. He would literally never drink out of a bowl on the floor for most of his life, though we did eventually find he'd drink out of a bowl on the draining board if he was desperate.

Anyway, we bought a water fountain as soon as we found they existed, and finally we were no longer tap slaves.

Ours was close to silent, except for maybe 30 seconds after it was first turned on after emptying, cleaning and refilling.

@RandomMess

One would only drink out the running tap the other a fresh glass of water.
Yep. If we went away for the weekend (prior to getting the water fountain) we just left mugs of water on the coffee tables.

Our eldest enjoys warm water, just a hint of bubble bath, taken from the tub with his paw.
His younger, adoptive sisters prefer puddles, dirtier the better.
None appreciate cold, tap water so I fear a fountain would be wasted here.

My overlord thinks it's a brilliant idea on Wednesday, Thursday and sometimes Sunday. The other days she wonders why her human is so stupid 🤷🏻‍♀️

SingingSands · 13/02/2022 23:03

My cat found it distasteful and did not approve. He made this clear by glaring at the fountain and then continuing to drink from his favoured pint glass.

(And the noise of it annoyed me a lot more than I thought it would so it was donated to a friend.)

We have acquired this one, in preparation for our new overlord's arrival.

I cannot tell you how much they will appreciate it as they are not yet in residence. But! I can tell you that it's absolutely silent. I am very pleasantly surprised.

@QuantumWeatherButterfly how extremely exciting that you are soon to enter a lifetime of servitude!

Mine loves his fountain, he won't drink from anything else. I did once catch him using it as a bidet though, just sitting on top while the bubbling water bathed his butt Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/02/2022 07:00

You can only try and see if they accept it.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/02/2022 08:40

Don't expect immediate acceptance - but one of our cats absolutely loves the water fountain, and the cat it was bought for now (after 6 months...) uses it occassionally.
We only turn it on when they go to it because it lives on the kitchen table.

@MulticatHouse

Yes they love it. We have this one.
We have the same one as you @MulticatHouse. Our 2 love it too.
MrsPatmoresPinny · 14/02/2022 08:53

@Wolfiefan Same. His lordship’s preference is always a clean glass and fresh filtered water from the fridge dispenser. Why other cats stoop to lukewarm standing water in a pet bowl, he will never comprehend.

He liked the fountain but my WFH DH couldn’t bear the constant sound of trickling water (I found it relaxing), so kept turning it off and when it’s availability became unreliable, the fluffy one stopped giving it the time of day and we’re back to glasses.

Wolfiefan · 14/02/2022 09:14

If I bought one meant for humans @MrsPatmoresPinny they may just use it. But pets? Since when have cats been mere animals?? Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/02/2022 11:46

That’s probably the trick, pretend it’s your fountain and 100% not for cats at all.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/02/2022 14:35

Those who know Harry on here won't be surprised to know he refused to drink from a water fountain. He wouldn't even go in the kitchen when it was on!

RandomMess · 14/02/2022 14:56

I have just my fresh cold tap water in fine bone China mug, yet again 🙄
