@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats not me! My boys are 6 and 2 (but bloody clever so I wouldn't be that surprised).

@YesItsMeIDontCare congratulations to your boy! Are you happy or is it a bittersweet thing of him moving away? Maybe Leroy put in a good word.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/02/2022 21:47

Woo-Hoo! you are definitely getting rid of him in October!

You have two ds @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats? I suppose with 4 and a half cats around theres not time to mention them too.

Allergictoironing · 15/02/2022 21:51

Congratulations DS of Yes. I do hope DS thanked Leroy for his invaluable assistance in procuring the offer Grin

YesItsMeIDontCare · 15/02/2022 21:58

Leroy is currently taking full credit, I think he was featured in the portfolio too 😁

Bittersweet. He's going a looooooong way away BUT it's the course he wants and it's a fantastic opportunity.

It's also a good place for a few long weekends 👍🏻

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/02/2022 22:14

A (fellow cat owning) women I'd worked with for three years expressed some surprise when my eldest son came into the office. She said she knew all my cats' names, what they looked like, and their behavioural quirks, but she had no idea I had children.
I always assume people don't really want to hear about your kids if they don't actually know them Shock

OrangeBlossom28 · 15/02/2022 22:16

@Yes wonderful news! DD1 had an unconditional for when she applied (she's now Yr2) and it was a relief!
DD2 will either go 150 or 105 miles away Uni choice dependent.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 15/02/2022 22:49

DS is going 260 miles away 😔

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/02/2022 22:57

DS2 is only going 40 odd miles up the road assuming he gets the result he needs (I strongly suspect he will). I don't expect we'll see much of him in term time though.
DS1 is in Antwerp at present (Erasmus) so at least he's made the effort to get well away from home Grin.

Supersimkin2 · 15/02/2022 23:57

WELL DONE LEROY!!! And DS of course with Leroy’s fine tutoring 😁

I’m so proud!! Unconditional too!!!

‘My cat got me into university’ - how cool is that.

Only works cos DS is obv bright and he can wave away his successes with a languid student hand.

Good luck for everyone - get that pet Zoom ready, ladies and gent.

Supersimkin2 · 16/02/2022 00:03

Antwerp’s moments from Bruges and Ghent Grumpy - you want a weekend there at least. If you can get on the 8am train from Waterloo you can be in the Grand Place in Brussels for a major chocolate croissant blowout, late brekker. Then Bruges fer yer waffles and stew tea. Nothing but lovely Misty walks through medieval canal streets with swans and chocolate restaurants.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/02/2022 06:07

We're actually collecting him a week on Friday (by car). Haven't been out to see him at all during his stay, mainly due to covid restrictions complicating travel Sad.
Would have loved to visit Bruges or Ghent again but it'll have to be another time.

swampytiggaa · 16/02/2022 09:59

My kids aren’t off to university 😊Boychild is an apprentice painter and decorator and middle child has dropped out of college for now because she didn’t like the course. Currently working in Morrisons with me and loving the money 😂😂

4th child has her heart set on law but she needs to pull her finger out of her arse and work towards passing her GCSEs as a priority.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/02/2022 10:22

My kids are both musicians (classical) so the chance of either of them ever earning good money is negligible Grin. They get very good hourly rates for their services but not sure about what full time work either will end up in...

Cats really are are much easier...

Supersimkin2 · 16/02/2022 10:27

Boychild will be the Litter Tray’s first millionaire Swampy, such valuable skills.

That’s a sickener Grumpy. Still, force as many chocolate croissants as you can down your neck on the autoroute. You might also take the opportunity to not remove TC from the bonnet on departure, which we’ll all know about when the Mail headlines with ‘Beast of Belgium’ and an adorable snap of the little lad eating a diamond dealer.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2022 10:47

We stuck with cats. Stick to what you know, thats what I say.

Also I dont think the bengal wouldve liked a child in the house.

Allergictoironing · 16/02/2022 10:51

When my brother got married, one of his new aunts-by-marriage asked them when they were starting a family. He told her "we don't need children, we have cats". She told him that their cats were "just child substitutes" - obviously he responded that other people's children were just cat substitutes.

Over 25 years later they are still happily married with cats and no children Smile

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/02/2022 11:18

Congratulations to Leroy's boy human!

I'd imagine TC giving Manneken Pis a run for his money ...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/02/2022 11:29

I wouldn't be allowed to take TC to Antwerp.
The centre of the city is a low emissions zone.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/02/2022 12:16

Back to cats Grin. I can report that Basil is feeling very relaxed today.

Who will feed the cats while you are away, Grumpy?

NDN - already booked in - fortunately he's very fond of our cats, and they seem to like him too.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/02/2022 12:43

Wonder if you will find you have five cats (officially) upon your return :)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/02/2022 12:59

It hasn't happened yet. Grin

He already earns almost as much as me as an apprentice 😂😂 tbh his company are very good to him and pay slightly over the odds. In return he works really hard bless him
