Heartbroken after my little vegetable was put to sleep this morning

Noseylittlemoo · 09/12/2021 22:26

This is my first mN post
My cat was put to sleep this morning and I'm in pieces.
He was only 2.5 years old and I loved him like a child (no human children)
It happened all of a sudden - he had seemed poorly only since Monday and vets didn't seem unduly concerned.
Can anyone offer any advice. I just can't stop crying.

Oh no, that's so sad!! I'm really sorry. Sad Do you have a garden? If so maybe you could plant a tree in his memory? That's what I've always done for mine. Now is the right time of year for it. It's nice in the summer to sit out there by the tree and remember. Sending massive hugs. Flowers

QuestionableMouse · 10/12/2021 01:37

I'm so sorry. He was adorable 💔💔💔

Crunched · 10/12/2021 01:38

What a handsome boy, and those eyes!
A memory book with photos is a good idea. I recently came across the scrapbook I made for my little moggy who died 27 years ago and was in floods of tears reading it. I appreciated it though.

spotsbeforetheeyes · 10/12/2021 01:45

What a beautiful boy he was Flowers

It sounds extra hard that it was so sudden and unexpected. Don't be afraid to feel grief and go through those unpleasant feelings, they're healing in the end. Be cautious of who you share your sadness with in case they don't understand how it feels to grieve a pet. People can say the silliest, unhelpful things.

mathanxiety · 10/12/2021 01:51

Just want to say I'm so sorry for your loss.

gaslady14 · 10/12/2021 02:38

I'm so sorry for your loss, what a beautiful boy Thanks

BasiliskStare · 10/12/2021 03:06

@Noseylittlemoo Oh how sad - he looks lovely - the only comforting thing I can say is that cats or dogs do not in general worry about their health so unless he was in pain he has gone the most peaceful way possible. You will miss him horribly - of course you will , but just put one foot in front of the other & get through the next few days. Lovely photograph though - I'd be tempted to get that put in a frame. I lost my first cat ( Rita ) but I still have a photo of her. Parsnip is a much better name than Rita .

sunflowerdaysinbeautifulmay · 10/12/2021 05:00

FiveGs · 10/12/2021 05:12

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2021 05:16

So sorry. He was gorgeous. Parsnip is a fab name for a cat.

I’m sorry. Parsnip was beautiful.

Suzi888 · 10/12/2021 06:42

Beautiful cat, I’m so sorry for your lossFlowers. Let yourself grieve, animals mean so much to us.

Evvyjb · 10/12/2021 07:02

He is just beautiful. I'm so sorry - you have a whole group of people here who get it. Cry as much as you need to.

I lost my Saffy last August and I'm still not over it. We love them and they love us SO much.

Parsnip is a wonderful name! And parpy cat is even better! I would definitely wait a while before making a scrapbook. Its a hard question, but have you decided on cremation/burial? I found that really helped me, and now I have her back home where I can sit her heavy urn on my lap and talk to her if I need to.

Noseylittlemoo · 10/12/2021 07:19

@Evvyjb we decided to let him have the communal burial. But he had a chair in the kitchen which was his special place so I think I will remember him there.
We are also thinking to get a garden ornament in his memory too.

I'm so so sorry OP. Parsnip was such a beautiful cat

middleager · 10/12/2021 07:32

I am so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful boy.

Clearly an adored cat, who would have known lots of love with you.

Last winter my 5 year old cat died suddenly and without any known reason. It was gut wrenching. I have also lost a 2 year old kitty, to the road, and was bereft.
I've said goodbye to other cats too, but when they are so young, it's so incomprehensible.

I feel your pain and am sending you my thoughts x

Letsnotargue · 10/12/2021 08:14

We had to have our dog PTS a couple of weeks ago so I feel your very fresh pain. I’ve found the way that works for me is to almost give in to being sad. It makes you feel really sad, and that is a reflection of how much you love your pet, so don’t try to fight it. It does get better and in a few hours, or days, you’ll look back through some photos and smile.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 10/12/2021 08:14

Oh op I am so so sorry what a beautiful boy. It's the worst part of cat ownership and the part we all dread. No advice really just as everyone has said be gentle with yourself and don't be surprised if you find yourself crying at times. Look after yourself.

Noseylittlemoo · 10/12/2021 08:33

Thank you for all the kind and thoughtful messages x
@middleager yes I think it is the shock of him being so young like your cats were and that it's not certain what happened. The guess is that he ingested something poisonous.

Intercity225 · 10/12/2021 09:16

I am sorry for your loss. Remember - you gave him a happy life! It must be a great thing, for an otherwise wild animal to have a warm home where they can sleep safely, with an endless supply of food and affection!

We made a memory book, when our last cat died.

Gretaburley · 10/12/2021 09:19

So sorry OP.
Our last cat was 16 when she died so we were very lucky.
I still couldn't speak to anyone about her for a week without sobbing.
It's so hard. Flowers

Youngatheart00 · 10/12/2021 09:24

I’m so sorry. They really are such an important part of the family and such loyal companions.

I was devastated when similarly our cat deteriorated fast over the course of a few days and we had to have her put down.

It really broke my heart and all I can say is that it takes time. I also got some photos printed from my phone and put them in an album which reminded me what a funny little thing she was.

Sending love Flowers

I'm so so sorry for your loss. Parsnip was such a beautiful cat!! I absolutely feel your heartbreak just now. Wee lost our gorgeous girl last night, she was hit by a car just outside our house. She was only 2 and was my dd's absolute world. She is beyond devastated but I never thought I'd be so heartbroken either. I can't stop crying! They are such a big part of our lives. Sending you hugs 🤗
