I have two new crazy kittens, they love to play with toys.
Looking for some recommendations that other cats enjoy...what does your cat like to play with?

When I first got 2 I cut holes in the sides of a huge box. We switched the TV off one night and sat watching them instead!!

LadyCampanulaTottington · 01/12/2021 21:46

Boxes, pens, glasses, receipts, paper bags, hairbrushes, hair ties, dirty leaves and one asshole who plays with the cat water fountain.

They don’t play with any of the toys we bought them.

Dontsayyouloveme · 01/12/2021 21:47

Ping bong balls and nerf darts! 😂

Amrapaali · 01/12/2021 21:48

Small plastic springs. Feather wands. Occasionally the laser dot. Anything else "interactive" aka expensive is steadfastly ignored.

InTheLabyrinth · 01/12/2021 22:00

this feathery wand toy, a random pink ribbon, or conkers.

Pudmyboy · 01/12/2021 22:00

Paper scrunched up into a ball eg old shopping receipts. He sits at the bottom of the stairs, they are thrown up and he pounces on them as they bounce down.
Ignores 'purpose made' toys, though does like a laser light!

Leah2005 · 01/12/2021 22:04

Hair bands - he holds with his paws and stretches with his teeth until they ping in the air. Smile
His favourite bought toy is a kicker - a fat stuffed sausage shape with a furry tail. He holds with front paws and kicks it furiously with his back feet.

Cosmic catnip banana Smile

Leah2005 · 01/12/2021 22:22

@RavenT yes!!!

RavenT · 01/12/2021 22:24

We've had other cosmic catnip products, but the banana is always a favourite... Grin

Thick elastic hair ties
The curtains Angry

Xfox · 01/12/2021 23:19

Post. The more official looking the better. Junk mail is generally ignored. Anything important has teeny teeth holes in it within about 20 seconds.

Brusca · 01/12/2021 23:28

Skinneeez mice, she carries them all around the house to play with them, they get lost and found and lost and found repeatedly, sometimes I find them in my bed, she now has 20 of them Blush

HunkyPunk · 01/12/2021 23:36

My dressing gown belt, a toy I made by knotting a piece of string through a paper drinking straw, and the laser pen. But I always try and make him think he’s ‘got’ it in the end by giving him a cat treat as soon as I switch it off, as I read somewhere it can be frustrating for a cat, if they’re constantly chasing after a light but never getting the satisfaction of catching it! I don’t want to psychologically damage him. Possibly overthinking it. Blush Grin

icedcoffees · 02/12/2021 08:36

Hair elastics.
Old receipts.
Little tea lights (candles).
The tops of pens.
Tampons he's managed to get out of the bathroom cabinet Hmm

Leah2005 · 02/12/2021 09:31

I didn't realise hair elastics were a thing Grin seems they are

And happily you can buy a packet of 5838285 in Primark for a pound.
floofycroissant · 02/12/2021 10:20

Door stops Hmm, hair bands, ping pong balls, ribbon, cat springs and Yeowww extra strong cat nip toys.

Mabelface · 02/12/2021 10:31

Ping pong balls, a fabric covered plastic ball that he can fling around, a clothes peg and a wand with feathers. 2 tunnels and a play tent too for hiding.

GreenCat44 · 02/12/2021 17:50

Hair ties are banned in my house after i found one in a pile of cat vomit Hmm
One of my cats is obsessed with the Cat Dancer toy (looks like a bit of wire with bits of paper attatched). Horrendously expensive but if he sees me putting it away he will spend hours trying to get in the drawer to get it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/12/2021 23:08

Ours loves this plastic contraption with balls in it - it’s a bit along the lines of swingball in that the balls fun round in circles but don’t go anywhere. She will play with me for ages with it, or by herself.

Her favourite thing is a ribbon from a box of chocolates we were given several years ago. If she’s not been out, playing with that gets rid of any excess energy. Weirdly all other ribbons have been outright rejected, she only likes this tatty, frayed turquoise one.

HaroldMeeker · 03/12/2021 21:31

Wand type toys, balls of any description including wadded up paper, a cardboard box with holes cut in it, an old cushion for killing, wine bottle corks and their siblings.

TheBalletCats · 05/12/2021 09:15

Mousies (as distinct from their living mice counterparts…) have always been great favourites here well, once we got the concept of “toys” established, anyway… to the point of some getting Loved To Death. Jingle Mousey [pictured] (who was, er, pawed down from a friend’s cat about 9 years ago) has survived though…

I think having 2 can make difference if they’re 2 who play together as they may have more interest in balls for without you than a solo kitten would. Though obviously there are probably some lone felines who are busily building ALL the ball skills when unattended & pairs who will look at you as if you have suggested they try swimming on being proffered a ball to play with.

On subject balls, wee foil-type ones like these are greatly favoured here because they are so light - perfect for batting about & thus losing under kitchen appliances but better still (according to a certain blond cat) perfect for playing catch with Hmm

My cats lack the catnip gene, but adore valerian, so they have some valerian toys, which occasionally get refreshed with valerian spray.

Sisal toys are more popular with my (cardboard-chomping) black cat than his brother; & he has a rope of owls (as one does) he quite likes the occasional chew on. Both quite like the chew toys you can get for cats (despite the catnip thing, yes).

Have fun Grin

Tunnels especially crinkly ones and dangly things on string.
Any box the smaller the better, I do a lot of online shopping and mine like to see if they can fit inside the box before I get the contents out.
DCat1 is a giant but insists that she fits in a shoebox.
We have about 20 balls but they are mainly down the back of the fridge/sofa/bed I retrieve them every so often
