My beautiful 13 year old moggie will be put to sleep this afternoon and I'm rather in bits. he was poorly this morning and took him to the vet and just had a sense of it. He's got terrible kidney failure. I'm trying to work but am just in bits before we go later this afternoon to have some last time with him

I think i will want to bury him in the garden but dont know what I should put him in. just feel so very sad

I’m so sorry, how awful for you to have to deal with. Does your lovely boy have a favourite blanket he loved? Or an old cardigan/jumper of yours he could be wrapped in?
Sending lots of hugs your way. Do you want to tell us a bit about him? Xxc

SinoohXaenaHide · 22/11/2021 14:20

Oh my dear Flowers this is so tough.

Remember that however hard this is, it is the kindest and most loving thing you can do for the old boy. He can't understand the pain he is in and just wants it to stop.

We used the vet's recommended cremation option and a couple of weeks later had our cats ashes back in a degradable card container about the size of a pencil case, which we buried at the roots of the tree he got stuck in as a kitten. I didn't want to bury his uncremated remains as I hated the idea that he might get dug up again one day whereas the ashes will just merge into the earth. It wasn't particularly expensive.

So sorry for your loss.

Thank you my heart is breaking ever so much as it is entirely unexpected! he is very much my cat and is so loving and so stupid and thick skinned. He has a silly furry toy I will put with him and perhaps find a jumper...

So sorry for you and your darling cat. Burying the ashes sounds like a great plan. Remember the vet wouldn't be suggesting this unless it was in your cats best interest. Take care.

Thank you I will give that some thought. They can organise individual cremation and that may be a nicer thought.

Oh he’s so handsome! Bless him he will not know what’s happening and just be happy surrounded by love until the end. It is so very hard for us humans tho. I have also had my pets individually cremated, and they will do this with a blanket or toy of your choice too and you can choose to scatter his ashes or as PP said bury them somewhere meaningful. Xxx

Poor sweety 😿.

I still have my cat’s ashes. If I have a garden one day, I would like to bury him.

SallyWD · 22/11/2021 14:41

I'm so sorry to hear this. It would break my heart. You are absolutely doing the most loving thing that any owner can do. I would frame a photo of him or ask someone to paint him, then you always have his image nearby. I've been through this myself and it's as painful as losing a human relative but time will help. One day you'll look back and smile at all the happy memories.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/11/2021 15:14

So sorry to read this. It's an incredibly peaceful end. And he'll go surrounded by love. I also second the idea of an individual cremation and burying the ashes.

thekingfisher · 22/11/2021 15:23

Thank you all - have just picked my human boy up from station who is so lovely and think we are agreed an individual cremation would be nice. bracing myself for 4.00

He looks like a lovely boy who has had the very best of times. Feel joy at what he has had, and given you.

We had individual cremation and the ashes of both our cats scattered into their favourite spot in the garden.

I also bought some cheap mini Xmas baubles with their names on, removed the top and filled them with the remainder of the ashes. I then glued the top back on.

That way, if we ever move, we will still have some of the ashes.

I may not feel that I need the ashes in 10-20 years but I wanted the option. And, obvs, it helps if your pet has a name that can be commonly found on ready to go items.

So sorry. I always say this but it's the worst and hardest part of having pets. RIP sweet boy Flowers

TheCreamCaker · 22/11/2021 19:28

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's horrible when a much-loved pet goes. I've been in that position many times. x

So sorry for your loss 😪

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/11/2021 19:35

I’m so sorry OP they’re just not with us for long enough x

thekingfisher · 22/11/2021 21:37

Thankyou all I'm feeling just so shattered and emotional. He was obviously still in some pain but ds and I managed to spend some time with him and then the lovely vet did the deed which was v gentle and with his favourite little toy snuggled up with him and me.

It has to be one of the saddest things I've ever had to do. There is a big cat shaped whole in my heart and house.

This has brought me to tears. It never gets any easier does it? He was such a beautiful boy. My heart goes out to you and your family ♥️

thekingfisher · 24/11/2021 22:05

Here's another photo from a couple of weeks ago.
Thankyou for your thoughts. Miss his heavy foot steps and the thud of him jumping down to see me.
