Would love to know my cat’s parentage

She’s a year old. REALLY big - about 6kg, but carries it well so she doesn’t look tubby. Just big. Extremely long haired but muscular - I’ve had fluffy cats before that have been purely all fluff but slender. She’s long as well.

She has this gorgeously long and fluffy tail. It’s a bit like a raccoon’s tail. The vet commented on how fluffy it is Grin Biggish ears that are tufty and her paws have it too. She’s like a massive moving cloud.

Her mum is a street cat from Greece - very sleek and proper Egyptian cat looking 🥰 Her sister is a black and white short haired tuxedo cat. Couldn’t be anymore different.

Pics attached.

More pics trying to show how big she is. Really hard in pics! The sofa she’s on is massive.

Deleted my own post there - didn’t mean to post the pic of the children’s party!

Did you know op if a dcat has 6 dkittens they could have 6 different df's?!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 17/11/2021 22:22

I did! Isn’t it mad? Is it something to do with them releasing different eggs at different times, or something?

I would say part Maine Coon . They're huge and the fluffy tail is right .

ISeeTheLight · 17/11/2021 22:36

I'd say more siberian than maine coon. Or potentially Norwegian forest cat. She's lovely.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 18/11/2021 06:47

She’s so beautiful and so kind of…dog like. Very sociable and LOVES cuddles. I have had cats all my life and you kind of expect that typical cat aloofness, but she is hands down the most affectionate cat I’ve ever had. She’s also very protective and sees off dogs, other cats and even foxes that she thinks get too close to my children.

She's beautiful.

As a child we had a tortoiseshell and white cat, she produced a very fluffy tabby boy, a ginger and don't remember the other colours, I think another one might have been fluffy.

The boy down the road wanted a dog, his parents let him have the fluffy tabby, who would come when whistled for and follow the boy round.

I'd like to know the parentage of mine, she's a stray but has a lot of Bengal qualities, the noise she makes that is nothing like a meow, following me from room to room and conning several neighbours in to feeding her.

Icequeen01 · 18/11/2021 07:11

I've got two very large fluffy ginger cat brothers who weigh similar to your gorgeous girl. Their mum was a Birman and dad the local unneutured Tom cat 😀

Queenie6655 · 18/11/2021 07:18

What a beauty my gosh 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

SoupDragon · 18/11/2021 07:23

My last cat was a giant tabby - he was usually around 6.5kg and really long - he would stand on the kitchen floor with his front paws on the worktop. Such a lovely cat. No idea what his parents or siblings were though. He was just like an ordinary tabby scaled up though.

Mybalconyiscracking · 18/11/2021 07:32

That looks and sounds like a Maine Coon or a Maine Coon cross. Amazing cats, so much personality.

Amrapaali · 18/11/2021 10:29

The floof, size and friendliness suggest she is a Siberian. Here is mine for reference Grin

I would think Maine Coon cross, they are known to be quite dog like in their behaviour, I have a friend who has 2, they are huge!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 18/11/2021 12:37

Lovely cat OP. In terms of parentage I'd suspect purebred moggy. There have always been large fluffy moggies around (I have one Grin).

Maxiedog123 · 18/11/2021 12:58

She looks like my lovely childhood Tom. Huge, 9 kg, fluffy Tabby , ruled the dogs. Pure Australian Moggy.

Maxiedog123 · 18/11/2021 13:00

40 years later I want one like him , so am looking at Maine coons

RuleOfCat · 18/11/2021 13:19

Have you considered getting her DNA tested? That would resolve the matter once and for all.

Mercurial123 · 20/11/2021 09:49

I don't know how accurate it is but try the app cat scanner. Just scan your cat.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/11/2021 10:11

I can’t imagine how accurate this is but it’s a lot of fun Grin

Cat scanner has just made my day.
Sybil is (apparently) 37.9% Niebelung, 25.1% Maine Coon, 19.9% Siberian and the rest DLH.
Basil is (apparently) 76.1% Maine Coon.
And I thought I just had lowly moggies Grin.

Clearly the cat scanner is absolute rubbish at recognising a proper cat DLH

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/11/2021 10:15

Her sister came up as 85% European short hair and 15% Tuxedo (which she is). I know their mum was rescued from Greece so maybe it’s not THAT inaccurate.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/11/2021 10:16

Cat scanner is literally the best thing ever.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/11/2021 10:23

Even better - another photo of Basil (enclosed) says he's purebred Maine Coon. (Cunning - since his mum was a short haired black DSH)

I'd have said maine coon, too.
