What's the best dried cat food out there?

In your opinion?

I feed a pouch or two a day but need to nail the dried food.

I've tried Fish4cats, miaowing Heads, Lily's kitchen - she will eat them all but not enthusiastically Grin

What do you use that you can recommend?

We use this one. Quite cheap in bulk and the cat loves it.

Royal Canin or Hills is quite good.

jessicama · 25/09/2021 22:26

We use Symply dried food. In fact that's largely all she has - it's what the RSPCA recommended when we adopted her.

@TTCyay

Royal Canin or Hills is quite good.
Unfortunately they aren’t, for the extortionate prices they are surprisingly poor quality. Vets often promote them as they get decent kickbacks on the brands (and the food isn’t going to harm your pet, it just isn’t great). Orijen & Arcana are excellent quality premium dry foods if you have a Royal Canin budget.

petfoodexpert.co.uk/ This site gives a good, impartial overview of pet foods, rating them in terms of quality of ingredients, allergens and a ‘social rating’ for ethical shoppers. Worth putting your chosen food through the checker.

Sorry, I meant Acana cat food. Mine likes the wild prairie.

Tulips15 · 25/09/2021 22:37

My cats love the Pets at home own brand.
(Meat not fish)
I read somewhere that is a reasonably good one against the high priced ones!

queenjaneappro · 25/09/2021 22:38

IAMS

TTCyay · 25/09/2021 22:39

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda Interesting! They used to be good - but I obviously need to do more research :)

PippaOwl · 25/09/2021 22:43

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely be working through them

She's 7 now and I want to feed her the best quality I can I think. Having said that, my last cat lived for 19 years on Go Cat so who knows eh? Grin

Fish4Cats is worth a look if any of you haven't heard of that - you can pay a fiver to try out a big pack of samples

Hills is excellent.

LilithImpala67 · 25/09/2021 22:45

Mine have Happy Cat, bit pricey but they do a renal version my elderly cat with kidney problems will actually eat so we have stuck with them. They are available on Amazon or you can buy direct from them which is a bit cheaper.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 25/09/2021 22:52

"Wild Freedom" especially the "Spirit of America" flavour. She can't get enough of it!
It also sounds quite exciting doesn't it 😀

Arrowheart · 25/09/2021 22:53

My cat loves Go Cat! Cheap as chips!

dementedpixie · 25/09/2021 22:54

Mine get Thrive dry - 90% meat

dementedpixie · 25/09/2021 22:54

@Arrowheart

It doesn't contain much meat which is why its cheap
icedcoffees · 25/09/2021 22:58

GoCat is unfortunately really poor quality and can cause urinary blockages in male cats - it's something like 4% meat and full of sugars and additives.
icedcoffees · 25/09/2021 22:59

Mine love Krave but I only buy it when it's on offer as it's seriously expensive for three of them - otherwise it's Harringtons salmon and potato.

Skysblue · 25/09/2021 23:00

Have tried a lot of different brands and we like James Wellbeloved turkey.

PippaOwl · 25/09/2021 23:00

Yeah I'm not sure if Go Cat is particularly good for days but like I said, I had one cat who would eat only that and was fine.

I feel better feeding top quality and price not particularly an issue as I don't overfeed her.

Purizon or taste of the wild from zoo plus. Both grain free meat pellets

Didicat · 25/09/2021 23:01

Mine eat Purizon, wild boar flavour I swear the cats eat better than I do!

asparalite · 25/09/2021 23:07

Lily's kitchen dry here, seems to be good quality and is filling, keeps my cat happy!

PippaOwl · 25/09/2021 23:08

Purizon looks good. £££ isn't it?!!

SciFiScream · 25/09/2021 23:09

I did a lot of research into this (can't remember the details) but in the end I found that lidl dried cat food has the highest amount of good stuff and the lowest amount of bad stuff.

My cats love it.

It's also affordable.

Cerebelle · 25/09/2021 23:25

I use Iams Vitality and when buying in bulk [[https://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/dry_cat_food/iams/eco_packs/212372]] it works out as not much more expensive than cheap brands. Their coats look great and the vets comment that they look very healthy.
