What's the best dried cat food out there?

In your opinion?

I feed a pouch or two a day but need to nail the dried food.

I've tried Fish4cats, miaowing Heads, Lily's kitchen - she will eat them all but not enthusiastically Grin

What do you use that you can recommend?

My cats like Canagan or Thrive (Chicken).

TeaMeBasil · 26/09/2021 00:02

James Wellbeloved Turkey for mine, she loves it

NotMyCat · 26/09/2021 00:16

@LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone

"Wild Freedom" especially the "Spirit of America" flavour. She can't get enough of it! It also sounds quite exciting doesn't it 😀
My cat thinks this is better than dreamies HmmConfused
Madwife123 · 26/09/2021 00:26

We use thrive. 90% meat and grain free so good quality. A little expensive but we don’t use much as it’s just to top up the wet.

DramaAlpaca · 26/09/2021 00:30

Mine loves Purizon.

PippaOwl · 26/09/2021 00:47

Spirit of America sounds wicked! Gonna give that one a try too

Mine were on Applaws until the recall.. tried a few, and they seem to have settled well on Arden Grange Chicken and Potato grain free. Reasonably well priced, decent meat content. Canagan reads well but I've 6 cats and go through approx 8kg a month - that would be £70 on cat food alone 😬

AmandaHugenkiss · 26/09/2021 07:48

Canagan and Orijen are both great. High meat content, lovely shiny coats and the respective cats loved them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/09/2021 07:59

Mines on Arden grange. The Bengal was on Arden grange too, both liked it. I like that it’s human grade chicken & the biscuits are heart shaped.

I really wanted my Bengal to like wild freedom @LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone, they did sound quite exciting flavours. I had loads of samples sent to me from different companies and they all they all got the paws down off him. Dh took them to a lady feeding ferals as she was trying to tame them.

@SciFiScream

I did a lot of research into this (can't remember the details) but in the end I found that lidl dried cat food has the highest amount of good stuff and the lowest amount of bad stuff.

My cats love it.

It's also affordable.

Wow if that's true that's a game changer! I always thought supermarket stuff had low meat content and contained grains etc??

swampytiggaa · 26/09/2021 08:41

Mine have the Harringtons dry food. They don’t have any wet.

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 26/09/2021 08:49

@PippaOwl can you send a link for the sample for £5 - can’t see it on their webpage - thanks!

cricketmum84 · 26/09/2021 08:55

Mine love Iams. We have a repeat amazon order and buy in 10kg bags so save on the price.

Although you know every time you say "my cats really like this" they know and will immediately refuse to eat it 😂

lokijet · 26/09/2021 09:05

Mine will only eat purina one (chicken) sometimes with a sprinkle if thrive on top

beenrumbled · 26/09/2021 09:05

Harringtons or Wainwrights grain free dried food here - they get either Harringtons grain free of Sainsburys grain free wet food too.

blueskytoday06 · 26/09/2021 09:10

My little one loves IAMS

ElspethFlashman · 26/09/2021 12:53

I just checked the Lidl one - 36% meat and 15% "oils and fats".

Is that good?

dementedpixie · 26/09/2021 12:55

Not really The thrive I use has 90% meat I did try scrumbles but the kibble is quite small and my cats still prefer the bigger thrive kibble
thecatneuterer · 26/09/2021 13:23

@Arrowheart

My cat loves Go Cat! Cheap as chips!
It's also been directly linked to urinary crystals and blocked bladders in male cats. If your cat is male I would really consider changing to a less cheap brand.
SciFiScream · 26/09/2021 14:32

It's not necessarily the oils and fat thing that matters. It's the percentage of a certain "thing". Argh. I can't remember my research. I'll see if I can force my brain to pull that info back!

SciFiScream · 26/09/2021 14:34

It's to do with ash content and magnesium content. The latter should be 0.1% or less.

daytripper28 · 26/09/2021 14:35

James well beloved - cats Love it.

From Zooplus - always get 10kg bag. Lasts nearly 3 months for 2 cats

WorriedWishingWell · 26/09/2021 14:38

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda
I've been meaning to change from Lily's Kitchen since they sold out to Nestle, so thank you for the link, I'd like a more ethical brand.

AnnaMagnani · 26/09/2021 14:39

My cats had Go Cat when I ran out of food and had to buy some from the petrol station.

They chose starvation rather than eat it. I have raised two complete snobs Grin

Usually they have Purizon and are delighted but for some weird reason they all go nuts for urinary cat food and none of the remaining cats need it.
