What's the oldest cat you've known?

Our cat is 19 and a half she's in good health still brings us the occasional mouse and cuffs our staff on the nose if she gets too close... I was just wondering what's the oldest cat you have had is?
Our cat is a more sleepy now and often sleeps quite deeply and doesn't always wake if I come in, will she just not wake up one day? Do cats do this? Dh seems to think she might just disappear off one day I hope not, I would hate that.
I hoping we've still got her for a while I would love to here about your elderly ladies and gents

I lived next door to a beautiful old lady of 21 - she used to come and sleep in our porch (much to the annoyance of my cats). We moved away so I don't know how long she lived in the end.

None of mine have made it further than 19. Yours is doing really well if she's 19.5 and still in good health - sadly my boy who lived to 19 was very obviously failing in his last six months.

The oldest recorded cat lived to 38 which I find amazing!

My oldest was 21. He was a British shorthair, which tends to be a long lived breed. But he developed dementia in the end and was soiling and peeing everywhere and had to be put down. By that stage he was unable to hunt, rarely went out, and shouted loudly most of the night - I think he was deaf, couldn’t hear himself, and was confused and disoriented in the dark.

Wow 38 is amazing! Hopefully we may have her for a bit longer... she's a tortoiseshell I'm not sure if they are long living? She's feisty I know that

The old lady I knew was a black and white semi-longhair tuxedo puss. It would be interesting to know if coat colour genetics have any bearing on longevity. My 19 year old was a solid black shorthair moggie.

I currently have a torby girl (tabby with tortoiseshell patches) who's 8 and a solid black boy - a youngster who's coming up to 2. Really hope they will both live to a grand old age!

My childhood b/w shorthair lived till 21. Looked a bit wobbly one morning out of the blue, came home that evening to find her stiff as a board

Although that's really sad titchy I kind of hope that ours just falls asleep and doesn't wake up on her favourite spot on the sofa....

The oldest cat I've had was just short of 21 when we had him pts. He had become quite frail over his last few months (and smelt terrible!)
Prior to him the oldest was his brother who died at 17. He went put for a walk & didn't come back - we found him in a neighbour's garden curled up as if asleep.

She wasn’t mine but lived at a rescue centre (her owner died) I used to volunteer at.

I've had loads of 25 year olds (I used to specialise in adopting oldies) and the oldest I've known (and she came with vet papers to prove it) was 27.

My MIL lost her 22 year old cat last year. She was still beautiful and had a silky and shiny coat right up till the end.

My friend's tuxedo died recently at the age of 21.
My old orange boy made it to 18.

My old boy is 18. He sleeps a lot, has daily thyroid medication in his food, is pretty deaf.... But he is still happy, beautiful and is curled up on my bed at the moment. I too hope for a slipping off in his sleep end for him.

My childhood cat lived until he was 24. I was 2 when we got him and was devastated when he died just before my 26th birthday. He had started to get really old when he was in his early twenties but then we ended up with kittens and it seemed to liven him up for a few more years.

My old girl was 23 and was still playing and chasing up until the day before she passed. ❤️

Previous NDN Tuxedo boy was 21 , their dogs found him as a tiny tiny kitten.

Our old girl was 17 yo , we got her as a 2yo Rescue who had been handed over pregnant with her 4th litter Rescue neutered her , the Vet didn't know she was pregnant though they had suspicion .

My childhood cat lived to a few days short of her 19th birthday. I currently have a pair of 20 year old siblings who are on medication for the usual thyroid and kidney issues but otherwise seem alert and in pretty good shape.

My old girl was put down at 18, she had a tooth abscess that they couldn’t operate on due to her age. Apart from that she was still relatively healthy and I think she could have had a few more years

Our cat was 19 when she died. She was very small and slim so looked much younger. I could see her getting weary from 17 onwards. One day she went out and never came back. She was part feral so only came indoors for food but if really cold she'd sleep indoors for the night too.
I'd love to know what happened to her although some people have said when cats are ready they can go off to die

My 2 lived to 21 each. In all honesty I probably should have had them PTS earlier as they were each quite frail in the end but couldn't until it was really impossible not to. With both I kept hoping they'd slip away. The vet said they almost never do. They just get thinner and stiffer and more wobbly until you have to make the call. That's bloody cats for you.

I used to work in a vets and we had a regular visitor who was 27 when he eventually passed away.

It was a tough call when we had our old cat euthanised - but the alternative was her possibly going off somewhere quiet and us never knowing .
She had high thyroid levels , was losing weight though she ate plenty , but could still scale a 6' fence with some effort .

It was hot summer , she was struggling and her Cat Friend next door had died .

If I could be sure she'd go in her sleep Id have played by ear . Couldn't take the risk though.

My old rescue cat was at least 22 - vets guess and said she was being optimistic

One of my childhood cats lives until he was 20 - he might have lived longer but he broke his leg in a misjudged leap off my mums sofa and had to be PTS, he was otherwise in reasonable health.

I’ve had a cat or few for the last 35 years
Oldest was 23 and had her 2 DD who were 21
They all went within 6 months of each other! Sad at the time but probs best for them
