I am in shock they said it looks like she has been attacked by a dog. Someone called local cat charity who collected her and took her to the vets who scanned her.
I will miss her so so much.

It feels even worse when they’re taken too soon. Sometimes it helps to think that you came into their lives exactly when they needed you and for their short time with you, you gave them your best. So sorry this has happened to you.

gypsywater · 05/09/2020 13:05

So sorry for your loss, just awful. Some very irresponsible dog owners out there. Heartbreaking.

EachandEveryone · 05/09/2020 16:05

Really sad to read this x

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 05/09/2020 16:09

Flowers I’m so sorry for your loss OP. She was a beautiful cat and I’m sure she had a wonderful life with you.

chocolatespiders · 08/09/2020 05:39

Thankyou all for your kind words. I am still in shock to be honest.
I have more details now and the dog chased her into a bush and then sadly got hold of her. Dog owner called cats protection. She was still breathing when cats protection volunteer arrived but died in car on the way to vets. I just feel so sad I wasn't with her and feel the person who's dog attacked should have taken her straight to the vets rather than call a charity and wait for them to arrive. But I realise there are reasons this might not have happened but I am in such a dark place about it and the thoughts consume me. I just feel she didnt get a long life like my last cat who was 21.
The charity won't tell me the location of where it happened due to keeping the dog owner anonymous but have said if I report to police they will give the police the details.
I don't feel I want the person prosecuted but I feel I want it logged in case there is a local pattern. Interested to hear people's thoughts.

So sorry this has happened to you chocolatespiders. I think you should report to the police. Most dogs would just chase a cat but go no further. Why wasn't the dog on a lead if it is unreliable around other animals?

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/09/2020 08:51

Tbh I’d report too. Cats don’t roam far so it’ll he local to you.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2020 11:59

I would absolutely report. And I'd be livid that they delayed treatment by waiting For a volunteer to turn up instead of going straight to a vet.

Tavannach · 08/09/2020 15:22

I would report it.
It's possible the dog is known to the vet for aggressive behaviour and that's why they didn't take your cat straight to the vet. Or maybe they thought they would have to pay. But I'd report it so the aggressive behaviour is logged.

Mumdiva99 · 08/09/2020 16:00

I'm so sorry to hear this. Your poor cat.

BusyEvenForBee · 08/09/2020 16:04

Sorry for your loss. Report op. Get an out of control ddog off the streets.. It may be ordered to be muzzled. As it should be.

Bargebill19 · 08/09/2020 16:13

Report it. I say that as a cat and dog owner.

It’s a cat this time, next time it could be a baby or toddler etc.
Irresponsible dog owners make me very angry.

Bargebill19 · 08/09/2020 16:15

Sorry it sounds like I’m minimising your loss, I’m not. I adore my cats and everyone else’s. My idea of sheer hell to lose a cat this way.

Plussizejumpsuit · 08/09/2020 16:18

I'm so sorry for your loss that's awful. But really good that somone took her to the vets and they called you. I'm tearing up thinking of this. Sending love xx

Plussizejumpsuit · 08/09/2020 16:20

Sorry also definitely report it to the police. They have let their dog kill another animal. Shows they have poor control over their dog and as pps have said what could be next.

SBTLove · 08/09/2020 16:21

I’m very sorry, I’m a volunteer scanner and I wish more people chipped their cats as so many aren’t.
The dog owner probably couldn’t have taken your cat to a vet with having their dog with them, at least they tried to get help, very few do.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 08/09/2020 16:21

I’m so sorry this happened, it’s heartbreaking when they leave us Sad

I would report. This dog should not be allowed off the lead or unmuzzled if it is dangerous like this, hopefully they can find the owner.

Elzbells · 08/09/2020 16:23

Report in order that somebody else doesn't lose their pet. I'm sorry for your loss, I would be heartbroken if one of my cats died like that x

It’s a cat this time, next time it could be a baby or toddler etc is exactly what I was thinking. Please report before someone else gets hurt. So sorry for your loss Flowers

I really don't understand why dog owners can't keep them on a lead. We have issues with dogs worrying cattle around here. People come to the countryside from surrounding towns and think they can walk their dogs wherever they like, whatever the season. It's just not the case, especially if their dog likes to chase or worse.

What an awful way to lose your beautiful cat, OP. I'm so sorry.
