I am in shock they said it looks like she has been attacked by a dog. Someone called local cat charity who collected her and took her to the vets who scanned her.
I will miss her so so much.

@Bargebill19
Don’t be bloody ridiculous!
A dog attacking a cat is completely different from dog- human aggression.
Easily the stupidest thing I see in any thread about a dog bite of any kind.

TenShortStories · 08/09/2020 16:35

I think I would report to the police too. You can explain that you really aren't sure whether you want the dog owner prosecuted, but the attack was obviously quite violent and you're therefore concerned about how safe the dog is. They can advise you from there.

CatSmith · 08/09/2020 16:40

That’s so sad, they really are family. I know you’re hurting right now, but consider burying her in the garden and remember she had a happy life filled with live from you. Xxx

1940s · 08/09/2020 16:46

Please please file a report and hopefully the police act on this dangerous dog and irresponsible owner

Wolfiefan · 08/09/2020 16:51

I am so very very sorry for your loss. I would report. Not with a view to prosecution but maybe the owners need a visit from a dog warden or police. They should maybe muzzle this dog. Harm to a person is unlikely but what if it corners another cat or small dog?

WB205020 · 08/09/2020 16:56

You absolutely need to report it OP. Its 1 of 2 things. Either an out of control dog or an owner who cant control their dog.

This is precisely the reason i firmly believe ALL dogs should be on short leads (or long retractable leads on a large open space) and muzzled in public. The number of times i have seen dogs out of control and owners who have no common sense. They let their dogs do what they want and think everyone loves dogs.

Im sorry for your loss OP. Please please do report to the police.

Burm · 09/09/2020 12:52

This is unacceptable to me - I could not just leave it here and sleep at night without having this incident investigated, it would haunt me forever otherwise. What an awful, awful way for your poor cat to go - she must have been absolutely terrified Sad . A dog chasing and then killing a cat is surely not normal dog behaviour and I would therefore deduct that this is an aggressive and/or uncontrollable dog who needs to be on a lead or muzzled at all times. The owner needs to have this enforced otherwise it could happen again - the fact he took steps to help your cat is at least something but I would want to make sure that he fully understands the seriousness of it and acts accordingly going forward. Furious and heartbroken for you OP. Please, please report Sad

Not for the dog, I don't think.

Unless it's the owner.

CarolVordermansArse · 09/09/2020 13:14

@chocolatespiders

Thankyou all for your kind words. I am still in shock to be honest. I have more details now and the dog chased her into a bush and then sadly got hold of her. Dog owner called cats protection. She was still breathing when cats protection volunteer arrived but died in car on the way to vets. I just feel so sad I wasn't with her and feel the person who's dog attacked should have taken her straight to the vets rather than call a charity and wait for them to arrive. But I realise there are reasons this might not have happened but I am in such a dark place about it and the thoughts consume me. I just feel she didnt get a long life like my last cat who was 21. The charity won't tell me the location of where it happened due to keeping the dog owner anonymous but have said if I report to police they will give the police the details. I don't feel I want the person prosecuted but I feel I want it logged in case there is a local pattern. Interested to hear people's thoughts.
I am sorry for the death of your beautiful cat.

Please report it, there are people that deliberately let dogs off to chase cats, and although this may not be one of them, it also might be and was reported in case someone saw.

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 13:38

@Lweji
Dog - dog aggression or cat is a completely different behaviour from dog - human aggression.
I’ve worked with dogs for years and trained/socialised dog aggressive dogs who nearly all without fault are absolutely no risk to humans.
It’s this uninformed hysterical attitude that leads to dogs being condemned/ dumped in rescue.

OhMrDarcy · 09/09/2020 13:47

We don't know the full story at all here, so there are lots of things we don't know.

Could it be that the cat was in the dogs garden, so the dog wouldn't have been on a lead or under close supervision? The dog owner might not have a car, or have had a drink and couldn't drive that night? Might not have had money for a taxi or thought the vet would charge her for your poor cat's treatment? The lady might have been in shock and not thinking straight, so didn't act in the best way that she might have done. At least she tried to get help.

Bargebill19 · 09/09/2020 15:02

@SBTLove

I said it meaning dogs attacking can escalate. First it’s a rabbit or a cat then it’s a baby in a pushchair or a toddler. It needs to be reported as who knows wether it’s a idiot owner thinking it’s a fun thing to do or a rogue dog?

I find you to be rather rude and extremely ignorant.

Sparklfairy · 09/09/2020 15:06

This is my worst nightmare. I would absolutely report it, the thought that it could happen to someone else would be too much for me not to.

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 15:49

@Bargebill19
I’m ignorant? 🤣🤣🤣
Ok 🙄 says the person who thinks aggression is a one size fits all, honestly you’re last comment is laughable.
A dog can have a strong prey drive towards small animals like cats, rabbits, it’s very very rare that a dog will randomly attack babies, they can tell the difference.

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 15:51

To add; a rogue dog or idiot owner
the owner was decent enough to seek help and not walk away and leave the poor cat, when most would have walked away.

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2020 16:05

So sad, @chocolatespiders.
Thinking of you.

I think you should report it , although likely the police will not be interested . My dog is very cat aggressive but he’s always on a lead where there are cats present , although if one comes in our garden it runs a risk - he is not remotely aggressive with people or small dogs though as he’s not completely stupid and can tell the difference . As an aside it may have been that he / she couldn’t take your cat directly to the vets themselves because of having to contain the dog / cat together if they were not near their own home IYSWIM . I do think it was a credit to them that they at least did something and didn’t just walk away .

Floralnomad · 09/09/2020 16:14

forgot the most important thing - sorry about your poor cat 💐

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 16:37

@Bargebill19
I think that’s yourself you’re describing!
If you’d bothered reading my comments, I work with dogs and tried repeatedly to explain the difference in aggressive behaviour but because it doesn’t fit your ill informed narrative you scream ignorant, rude, keyboard warrior.
Someone pointing out that you’re incorrect or pushing wrong information doesn’t make them a keyboard warrior, you could take it as a learning moment because your comments about dogs behaviours is wrong and causes more issues than good, I hope you don’t have a dog.

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 16:37

@Floralnomad
Thank you for another voice of reason.

chocolatespiders · 09/09/2020 16:48

I have called the non emergency police and have an appointment to talk to an officer on Friday morning.
Thanks for the supportive posts.

@SBTLove

I have dogs. Have had them for 50 years. Also been the go to person for the dog warden and RSPCA. Trained many dogs and more importantly their owners. Dogs that otherwise would have been euthanised, due to aggressive behaviour, have stayed with me for life.

But of course you don’t believe a word anyone but yourself says. A typical nightmare owner.

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 17:06

If you’re so knowledgable why do you assume a dog that kills a cat will attack a baby? A theory long disproven.🙄 You sounds like a nightmare with your outdated ideas, behaviourist knowledge has moved on from Barbara Woodhouse!
Most DWs have little experience as for RSPCA they’re close to useless.

caringcarer · 09/09/2020 17:53

This is terrible. Dog owners should keep their dogs on a lead.
