When you met your cat/cats what was it that said "Yes you're the one"

We were searching last year for our Fur Overlords.

Now you know you can go onto CatChat and it willl give you all the details of Cat Rescues in the area . Then you click and view 100s of cats right there .

I narrowed it down to a M/F pair (2-3yo) and a Bro/Sis pair (1yo)

My heart kept tugging me back to the Bro/Sis . We could offer them a forever home that would suit them .

My head said "But the older pair might find it harder to find a home"

In the end - it was a picture of the little female with her giraffe like neck stretched out and those big eyes and pointy ears .
I fell in love with her neck !

They were a pair -he was very shy which was why our house suited them (my DC are adults)

Of all the Gin Joints in all the worls , she walks into mine

So what was the "lightbulb" moment for you ?

Er Blush Ollie was the first one I saw. He was cute and chatty and seemed friendly. Having never had a cat before I went in blind Grin

Sausagis · 25/06/2020 21:20

Went to local rescue, they said sorry, none of our cats can live with children. Oh, except possibly one - shall we try? Said cat ran to children and purred loudly while rubbing against them. Took her home and she wouldn't go anywhere near them for 8 years! She just REALLY wanted out the rescue shelter Grin

MaverickDanger · 25/06/2020 21:22

DH just turned up with them at home Grin they had been abandoned where he worked & thought I’d like them.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 25/06/2020 21:29

Bonded pair here too. The boy was super friendly and loved a tickle, but the lady at the RSPCA said “oh I wouldn’t bother with him, if you have him you’ll have to take that other one, who just hisses at everyone”.

I felt so sorry for them both, but the friendly one especially, who was being punished for his cell mate’s crime!

It turned out that when we got them home, the “not very nice” one was actually just very shy, had clearly been hit/abused in the past as she would flinch if you went near her, but with lots of love and patience she’s become a very sweet and funny little cat, with a very weird and quirky personality Grin

She plays fetch like a dog, sits outside DD’s room and runs to the door when she hears her come home, she can’t miaow properly so makes a weird squeaky high pitched noise instead, and she makes us laugh all the time with the way she behaves.

Even if she’d have just been a feral type cat and kept herself to herself, I’d still be glad we gave her - and her lovely buddy - a home.

BlitterBug · 25/06/2020 21:30

He jumped up, sat on my lap, and touched his nose to mine.

Never done it since (though he is a very affectionate cat), to me or anyone else. It was like he was saying "yep, you're hired" Grin

Kittytheteapot · 25/06/2020 21:30

2 of mine were CPL. They were the only ones offered to me. I went to the fosterers house and took them home from there. I can't say they did anything special to attract me.Blush

The 3rd was a stray. A passing stranger approached me and asked me if I knew anyone near by who owned a kitten. He has just witnessed the kitten being hit by a car! I went to have a look at it and could see quite clearly it was a stray. It wouldn't go anywhere near the male stranger, but it came to me when I called it. It miaowed incessantly. It was just adorable. I kept him, against my better judgement, because of already having the other 2, but he is the absolute light of my life and still prefers me to all others, is more scared of men, and he still miaowed incessantly!

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/06/2020 21:30

Once we'd done our home visit and given all our details to the cat rescue (only one in this area) that narrowed it down a lot. Then we had to decide between one or two. When we approached the pair we ended up with both looked interested, one came forward to investigate us, the other hung back a bit but was SO beautiful and calm. That turned out to be their exact personalities, one is a friendly lap cat and the other is gentle but aloof.

Clever kitty!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/06/2020 21:31

One had nowhere else to go, two were her kittens!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 25/06/2020 21:35

Here is the little weirdo, having a nap in a strange position as usual!

Oh how gorgeous.

Susiesue61 · 25/06/2020 21:37

Our first cat was an 8 year oldish ginger tom. I went to the RSPCA and all the kittens were frantic. He sat on a wall and snoozed, he was beautiful 😆 The afternoon i brought him home, he sa t on my knee for hours while i stroked him and he shed fur on me ❤️
Our next ones were kittens we got from the mum, they were the two gingers no one wanted.

CalamityJoan · 25/06/2020 21:37

We got our guy from a shelter. He was grumpy and acted like he couldn't give less of a shit. DP immediately identified with him and we took him home.

He's fab.

UncleShady · 25/06/2020 21:38

There was a cat the local CPL were advertising for ages who had the most perfect resting bitch face, she was full of distaste for which ever pathetic human (s) had taken this series of photos. And her bio said no other cats, no dogs or any other type of pet, no children of any age - there was a whole list of things that she disapproved of - and she gave the impression it was her choice because that cat was not scared of anything. I wanted to give that cat a home because at least you'd know where you were. Alas I had about 6 of the things she hated so it wasn't to be. She's probably still waiting for her very rural living single childless cereal farmer to take her in.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 25/06/2020 21:41

I read this in the "Overlooked Cats" section of "CatChat" and my heart broke. It was his Homing Day on the 23rd, we've had him 4 years now.

(Yes it does spell his name with an extra e, but all his paperwork had it with one e so we went with that 🤷🏼‍♀️)

ArbitraryNameChange · 25/06/2020 21:41

She took one look at my husband and decided he was the one. The rest is history, they're still besotted with each other.

Me? I just buy the food.....

purrswhileheeats · 25/06/2020 21:41

I went to a sanctuary looking for a pretty tabby but all the ones I fancied were really timid. All of a sudden, this black and white kitten launched himself at me; he was the ugliest, most gawky cat there but he wouldn't take no for an answer. He jumped into my arms and purred, the rest was history.

He's no longer with me but I'll never forget how he 'chose' me and was so determined for me to take him home that day.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 25/06/2020 21:44

Tries again....

zaffa · 25/06/2020 21:46

They were the only cats available. They were mean and half feral and cake from a house of multiple cat (and low human) occupancy and they hissed at us when we went near. They were at an awkward growth stage and had huge ears and paws...
They are most loved 14 years on. One sleeps in my arms at night and the other spends his life patrolling the garden and protecting us from various moths and plastic bags that might try to attack. I love them with all my heart and will be devastated when we lose them.

If I had a whole series of cats lined up I may not have chosen them, but they are the perfect cats and I'd be lost without them

We went to see a friends free-to-a-good-home litter. We were just going to look, weren't looking for a kitten at all, DH said that he was putting his foot down on the notion. We could have a look and a cuddle, that was it.

There were five(ish) ravishingly pretty kittens, some of them lavender grey, bumbling about looking big eyed, pretty and a bit dull and one pure black monster, tearing about and jumping on everyone else's tails, screaming her head off.

DH fell in love at first sight but she was my cat really. She'd drape over my shoulder like a stole or round my neck. She was part Siamese with a big throaty "Worwl-worwl" cry and a complete wicked bugger.

I always love my pets, but she was something else and I still miss her.

AnnaMagnani · 25/06/2020 21:55

First 2 cats - my mum picked them for me from neighbour's litter of kittens. When they arrived, it was instant love.

Eventually they grew up, grew old and one died. Within 2 weeks we were at cat rescue in search of kittens.

They only had one pair of kittens. Again instant love.

Clearly I am not picky Grin

PulpHorn · 25/06/2020 21:55

Went to look at them and chose another, then my cat got onto my lap and stayed there the entire visit whilst all the other kittens ignored us and played together. Had to contact them after and say I'd changed my mind

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 25/06/2020 21:57

Oops, identifying info on that photo. Have reported for deletion!

Cattermole · 25/06/2020 21:57

So we have five.
Late DH and I had gone on the train to see his parents and they took us over to see his auntie and uncle who lived on a farm, and they had kittens and there were two left... you can't take kittens on a train his mum said, on the Tube and everything. (They're 15 now. Haven't been on a train since.)
We then acquired two further idiots, brother and sister, from a couple who separated. It's only temporary they said, just till we sort out accomodation where one of us can have cats they said, just for a month or so. Five years later.... they're still here.
And then there was Obelix, who's a rescue cat who was in the paper as the poor saddest cat alive: he was thin, he'd lost bits of his person, they found him hiding in a greenhouse. We donated to look after him. Turned out when he'd lost his tail he had also ruptured his diaphragm so he had to have further surgery on his insides... and then on his poor eyes because his eyelashes were turning in. I just felt so sorry for him, all sad and not having ever been loved by anybody. We went to meet him and he nibbled me.
