We were searching last year for our Fur Overlords.

Now you know you can go onto CatChat and it willl give you all the details of Cat Rescues in the area . Then you click and view 100s of cats right there .

I narrowed it down to a M/F pair (2-3yo) and a Bro/Sis pair (1yo)

My heart kept tugging me back to the Bro/Sis . We could offer them a forever home that would suit them .

My head said "But the older pair might find it harder to find a home"

In the end - it was a picture of the little female with her giraffe like neck stretched out and those big eyes and pointy ears .
I fell in love with her neck !

They were a pair -he was very shy which was why our house suited them (my DC are adults)

Of all the Gin Joints in all the worls , she walks into mine

So what was the "lightbulb" moment for you ?

@UncleShady

There was a cat the local CPL were advertising for ages who had the most perfect resting bitch face, she was full of distaste for which ever pathetic human (s) had taken this series of photos. And her bio said no other cats, no dogs or any other type of pet, no children of any age - there was a whole list of things that she disapproved of - and she gave the impression it was her choice because that cat was not scared of anything. I wanted to give that cat a home because at least you'd know where you were. Alas I had about 6 of the things she hated so it wasn't to be. She's probably still waiting for her very rural living single childless cereal farmer to take her in.
That sounds like my cat - maybe it's the same one. Grin

I actually chose her because the list of things she disapproved of was so long I thought no one else would want her. She's actually a very sweet cat, but we've discovered the list of things she disapproves of is even longer than first advertised.

@madcatladyforever this is the boy Tankie, scourge of Amazon delivery drivers who think he's a pit bull terrier and general tailless floof.
This morning he was sitting on the edge of the bath demanding cuddles. He bops you (no claws) if you stop.

He has the gentlest nibble imaginable!

My god, @ponygirlcurtis, those are damned handsome cats.

KatherineJaneway · 26/06/2020 07:47

I can't describe it because it was just a feeling. I saw her photo and just knew. Got washed and dressed and went straight to the rescue centre. Came home with her the next day.

ProfYaffle · 26/06/2020 07:59

We went to our local independent rescue, the dc had quite specific ideas about what type of cat they wanted. The lady who runs the centre listened to them, Hmmmed a bit and took us to the pen of a cat who was nothing like they'd described.

She was very aggressive to other cats so had to be isolated in a pen rather than run around outside with the others. As we went in, the owner said to her 'you're so bored aren't you?'. She came galloping over and immediately flopped down on her back showing us her belly, pausing only to growl ferociously at the kittens in the pen next door.

We didn't bother seeing any other cats! It broke my heart that she was so bored and lonely in her pen.

She's still the same now. We cat proofed our garden so she can't wander and terrorise the other cats in the neighbourhood but she peers out through the gaps in the fence and growls at next door's cats to keep them in their place.

DC and I have wanted cats for ages. Big campaign with DH. Eventually he relented. Took us ages to get a cat because lots of rescues kept refusing us. (DD was too young at the time, we worked and weren't at home during the day, DH has never had pets etc etc) we resigned ourself to not getting pets.

One of DHs colleagues knew about our campaign and supported us. One day DH came home with pictures of cats from a rescue in another area. Gorgeous bro and sis. I loved them instantly but put them out of my mind because over the bridge in Fife!

We went to visit them. Just to cuddle them and see if we were allergic.

We still weren't getting them at that stage then I said let's go to the pet shop and buy a gift for the rescue.

We bought a cat carrier, toys, litter tray and food. We took them home!!!

They are perfect for us. The boy cat is just like my son. Food orientated and picks on his sister. The girl cat is just like my daughter won't eat properly and gymnastic.

They are both so affectionate. They have the best life we can give them. The girl cat sleeps on my boobs. She comes running to cuddle me if I'm ever stern with the kids. (Makes us all laugh) we joke she's my emotional support cat but I think she's protecting the DC from me being stern.

My DH adores them! They both have him wrapped around their paws. I have over 1000 photos on my phone and most of them are of the cats.

My DH takes photos and shares them on his workplace FB.

We've had them for 19 months now and the DC are still in "we can't believe we've got pets stage"

Well I wanted a beautiful black & white cat from Cats Protection called Fluffy that was described as confident & affectionate but she was reserved so I saw a similar cat called Ebony who was described as stressed & had no interest online.
So I went to see Ebony.

Except when I got to CP I went to see her and she was so fat she was shaped like a rectangle haha!! She was fluffy though & just sat there & purred while I stroked her & the volunteer was so enthusiastic that I felt I had to say yes & fill in the forms.....

When I got her home I put her straight on a diet & she gradually slimmed down to a normal cat shape.
But. She was sooo shy. She kept hiding behind the sofa & wouldnt be picked up or sit on laps. I tried Feliway but it didn't work, she refused point blank to play outside & still will not leave the house.
Then she discovered catnip toys which she loves! I found out she loves to play a lot.
She started to be more & more affectionate & 2 years later she's still not sitting on laps but follows me everywhere in the house like a dog & lives for attention & fuss!!
I feel that her personality has really started to come out now & we are really bonded.

Ahh lovely cat stories and it is so heartwarming to read about the cats in Rescue (who often don't present themselves in their best light ) that just catch you , move in and blossom.

My DH really wanted cats ( DD and I had guinea-pigs so I said we'd have to wait till the guineas -who were getting on in years- had gone as it wouldn't be fair on either cats or piggies)

We were all on board , my DC are 18 and 20 now . They know they're part share in litter tray duties and if DH and I are away , they cat-sit .

DH left the searching to me but I knew there had to be a black cat in the final choice (which TBH isn't difficult , most Rescue pages have black cat after black cat )

We struck gold with two black cats ...and the rest , as they say , is history .

And they have settled well. Only the odd dead thing brought in.
8pm -8.15pm they present themselves for supper having been out all day galivanting . They know it's Lock Up and supper time ........or maybe they've trained us ?

Three rescue kittens being fostered. Rolled a ball over. Our cat rolled it right back to us, and then just sat there looking at us as if to say: how about it then?

He still plays pass now if he’s in the right mood Smile

bluemolly · 26/06/2020 11:37

@70isaLimitNotaTarget black cats are so wonderful. We have one too Smile

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 26/06/2020 11:42

Wasn't only offered the one both times. We were given the ones CPL were struggling to re-home as they were adult B&W cats. They are both perfect :)

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 26/06/2020 12:02

Now DH and I went to a view a litter of kitten, all beautiful but we picked the one who was climbing up the curtains as ‘he had character’ and boy did he ever, he used to climb up the back of our fridge until he got too heavy and broke the workings fo the fridge, once landed all feet first in my dinner, and played fetch like a dog. He was my cat but loyal like a dog to DH. Second cat was the runt of the litter, ‘oh she’s so cute!’ - she quickly ruled the roost despite her size!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2020 13:24

I fell
In love with this photo of Magic, and Maia was part of the deal! when I went to meet them they were already in their boxes. So we met when we got home. Or Magic And I met. Maia hid for a week.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2020 13:25

My heart strings were pulled by ' can't believe these two have had no interest In 6 weeks'

Gingaaarghpussy · 26/06/2020 14:25

My first 2, after I left home were from a family in the village. Both white and fluffy, they were not in great shape. One them was like a baby and the other was affectionate by flighty because he was deaf.
My mother used to run a kennels and the rspca boarded cats and dogs there. The first one I got from them was tiny and not expected to survive but because I fell in love with her my mother made more effort, unfortunately due to a divorce I had to give her up.
The next one, when I was more stable came again from my mother. The rspca lady had said that she was vicious and to be careful, she took one look at me and loved me.
I got 2 brothers from the cpl who were originally indoor cats, living in a flat. They took to going outside really well, but I had to give them up because I was moving to a flat.
My current cat was from a local rescue and was a kitten, I picked her up and she stuck her head under my chin and fell asleep. She is 9 now and a total cow bag. She attacks me while shes purring and will then sit next to me and fall asleep. I love her to bits.

Thecatisboss · 26/06/2020 14:58

We moved to Yorkshire and part of the deal was I could then get a cat. 6 months after buying a house still no cat. I moaned to PIL about this and FIL piped up he was selling a house for someone who's cat had had kittens and we should go for a "look". 6 mad kittens driving their mother crazy. One had cute yellow eyes and an enormous miaow. Kitten came home the next day and been ruling the roost for 19 years now.

violetbunny · 26/06/2020 15:07

We waited until we bought a house to get a cat (our old flat was totally unsuitable). As soon as we moved in we contacted a kitten rescue about adopting a pair. Kittens were in hot demand, the ones we were interested in kept going before we could get there to meet them. They took pity on us and said they had a pair coming up which they'd give us first dibs on.

We went to meet them, I remember worrying if they would be right, but the moment we clapped eyes on them we knew they'd be coming home with us. They were just so tiny and adorable. Funnily enough, I was quite taken with Boycat (runt of the litter, playful, affectionate) and DP was enamoured with GirlCat (pretty; loves to climb and explore). I love them both but Boycat is basically my baby - here he is the day I met him.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 26/06/2020 15:10

My brother was desperate for a cat when he was about 7, so my mum found someone who's cat had just had kittens. It was a massive Manor house and the kittens were in their own room wing
This tiny black cat really liked him, wouldn't leave him alone. I tried to pick her up and she bit me. He chose that one 🤣 she's 19 now, shes still very posh and stuck up, and she bit my face last week (I think that was accidental cos she's old and went to lick me and misjudged)

My cat i knew I was getting, but i was told he didn't like other people and would probably hide when I went to collect him. He didn't he let me stroke him. He accepted me as his slave straight away.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 26/06/2020 15:34

dh found out about a litter of kittens and took me off "just for a look" after work, the owner gathered them all up and passed them to me to look at, telling me girl or boy and I would have a little smooch and kissy and then take the next one, as I put down one of them he got back on my lap and did a little puppy dog turn about to make a nest and fell fast asleep....he was the one!

B&W tuxedo cat, he died at 21 and my heart still breaks....he was my best cat. He was soooo cross at the babies when we had them he did not speak to any of them for about six years....and then he decided that maybe it might be nice to cosy with a small tired child (ds2) when he came in from nursery.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/06/2020 17:24

We didn’t really have a moment, I wanted a cat & dh wanted a rough tough Bengal male. We saw a male Bengal kitten on the breeders website & he looked healthy when we saw him so we went back the next week to get him. He wasn’t really interested in us at that visit.

He was very much my cat much to dhs disappointment.

Flavabobble · 27/06/2020 18:59

2 kittens from a local cat charity. Mother was a feral cat that lived at the local railway station that had been taken in. They were only 4 weeks old. We picked the tabby with white markings and the tiny little black & white who was described as the runt.
He is no longer tiny.

Lellochip · 01/07/2020 12:02

I met a few at my local CPL, there was a beautiful fluffy tortie girl, and a gorgeous grey lady that had both caught my eye on the website before I went. They also introduced me to a ratty half-naked stray (she looked like she'd forgotten to put her trousers on) who promptly climbed onto one leg as I crouched down and curled up. Couldn't argue with that 🤷🏻‍♀️

MaudesMum · 02/07/2020 07:20

Local cat rescue had a litter of kittens and I fell in love with the two black and white fluffy ones on their website. Went round to meet them, and those two ignored me, whilst the skinny short haired black and white one I'd not really noticed made a beeline for me, climbed on my knee and tried to get into my bag. I was then told she was the boldest of the kittens, and was always getting into trouble - I was sold! For her first 6 months at home I don't think there was a day when she didn't make me laugh (and a lot of stuff got broken). She's a bit calmer now, three years later.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/07/2020 10:57

I've never had a cat, but my neighbour's cat borrowed my back garden for two years and glared at me when I went out there ... until his actual owners had a baby. He was not impressed and voted with his paws. One wet night I was going out for take-out and he rolled over and presented his belly. The next morning he was waiting by my door! We became best friends.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 02/07/2020 13:59

I went to see a kitty who was cute but l didn't feel the pull. Went to see another one and there was no way l could have not had him!! So gorgeous and friendly, 7 years on l still adore him and absolutely know l made the right choice!
