Pregnant cat

A few weeks back a cat came to our house and didn't want to leave. We tried all the tricks to find an owner but nobody claimed her so we kept her. Little did we know, she was pregnant and is due in a week or maybe 2 according to the vet.
I forgot to ask about her going outside after the kittens are born. She's in full time at the moment as I don't want her giving birth outside. It's only been for the last week and she is already crying at the door to go out.

Obviously she isn't spayed so is it best to keep her in until the kittens are weaned?

Any other advice to newbies surrounding the whole birth and kittens thing?

I've been reading as much as possible but it's nice to hear from others who have actually experienced it.

Congratulations. I have been checking every day for the birth announcement!

OMG I'd forgotten mama baffs, they get a good pinning down and their faces scrubbed.

On youtube 'foster dad john' almost always has a litter and there is loads of advice about kittens. I think he must be om litter 50+ by now.

She has no temperature and no discharge but her respiration rate is up slightly.

If you'd just pushed 4 children out would't yours be?

Shmithecat2 · 10/03/2020 06:23

Kitten milk and kitten food too. Gives her all the extra goodness she needs whilst she's feeding the babies.

OP, have a look at The Kitten Lady and My Foster Kittens on Instagram / YouTube. Some good advice on mamas and kittens, plus cute videos

Ahh this thread is great!!

What nice news to wake up to! Congrats Alex and OP!

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 08:37

That's true @sassh
She's a lot better this morning.
My husband slept on the sofa to keep an eye on them overnight. She behaved perfectly and is sitting on them less.

I just worried she was going to be ill.

I love your husband, he is obviously a good cat slave.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 08:54

He was fab when she was in labour sassh
He helped wipe their mouths and passed the babies to her to lick and eat the placentas.

I was in more of a flap where he was really calm 🙈

She's FINALLY gone in the litter tray! She's much calmer now.

That classic first post-birth poo 😂

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:50

Yes @SoupDragon I remember that we'll 😂

She's doing brilliantly today but still wants me to sit by her constantly.

Omg they’re gorgeous! My beautiful girl is a rescue and was heavily pregnant when handed in to the rescue - she washed them ferociously Grin they were long haired like her and it would stand up on end after they’d been scrubbed, it was adorable.

WildCherryBlossom · 10/03/2020 15:29

Oh my word, how lovely 😻😻😻

JorisBonson · 10/03/2020 15:40

Oh look at those little babies 😍😍😍

Guiltypleasures001 · 10/03/2020 15:40

I'm a puddle of kitty love this end 😻

EachandEveryone · 10/03/2020 15:56

What are you thinking of calling them?

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 16:07

I'm not sure on names till we find out the sex of them

Squee at the pics, adorable.

madcatladyforever · 11/03/2020 05:21

Its adorable that she needs you to be with her.

BovaryX · 11/03/2020 06:26

Lovely pictures! She was lucky to find you and well done for taking care of her and her kittens. Really nice of you

nettie434 · 11/03/2020 07:14

(Hopefully) Are you looking for any volunteers so you can get a break? Grin.

I meant to say waaaay up thread that your son believing the cat came from Father Christmas was so lovely - just like the kitties. I think some cats can be a bit over protective when they have just given birth. It is so sweet that she is relying on you. She looked quite young herself from the photo.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/03/2020 08:12

I think we should set up a rota of cat sitters. The OP must need a break by now!

SoupDragon · 11/03/2020 08:33

I'm not entirely sure any of us can be trusted not to steal any kittens.

bubblesforlife · 11/03/2020 08:41

This thread is wonderful Smile
