Pregnant cat

A few weeks back a cat came to our house and didn't want to leave. We tried all the tricks to find an owner but nobody claimed her so we kept her. Little did we know, she was pregnant and is due in a week or maybe 2 according to the vet.
I forgot to ask about her going outside after the kittens are born. She's in full time at the moment as I don't want her giving birth outside. It's only been for the last week and she is already crying at the door to go out.

Obviously she isn't spayed so is it best to keep her in until the kittens are weaned?

Any other advice to newbies surrounding the whole birth and kittens thing?

I've been reading as much as possible but it's nice to hear from others who have actually experienced it.

Yeah. No kittens yet. She's due any day. I can see them squirming in her tummy.

Aww hope it all goes well

GinLimeandLemonade · 28/02/2020 09:57

Any kittens yet? 🤞

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 10:25

Nope, still none.
If she hasn't had them in the next few days I will take her the vets.
They are still moving and she is still well.

She’ll have them overnight somewhere inconvenient like your knicker drawer or smack bang in the middle of a child’s bed.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 11:20

You are probably right about the child's bed. She always sleeps at the end of my toddlers little bed throughout the day. Least he has a mattress protector on 😁

She's so lucky to have found you in time to have somewhere safe for her kittens to be born.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/02/2020 16:00

Leave a cashmere jumper lying around. Instant kittens guaranteed.

HappyHoppyHippo · 28/02/2020 20:54

Place marking ❤️
Good luck OP... Can't wait for pics.

She's still not had them but her vagina area looks more "open" and has a dried up looking discharge. She doesn't seem to know what to do with herself. She's lying in different places and doesn't seem to get comfy.
She is absolutely huge now. Babies are still moving but she is lying down at every opportunity!

I had a stray cat which was living in my garden - I was trying to find his owner and couldn't get close enough to get him into a carrier to take for a chip check.
Then he got into my conservatory one day and wouldn't leave.
Then she gave birth to 3 kittens Smile

She sorted it all out, it took about 4 hours in total (but labour can take up to 12 hrs apparently)

Definitely don't let her out, she will try to move the kittens to a quieter place if she gets a chance and you need them to be inside.
Feed her kitten food as it's more dense and gives her more calories
The cat rescue lady I phoned in a panic when it happened to me, told me to stay close by in case any intervention was needed (it wasn't) and just talk calmly to the cat and say nice things.
Hopefully it helped !

We handed the whole little family over to a rescue when the kittens were 5 days old as she kept biting me, but then we adopted 2 of the kittens when they were old enough to rehome Grin

Good luck !

Can't wait to hear the news and see the photos!

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 19:49

Ahh that's lovely Liz
Luckily she's very friendly. It's looking more like she's been abandoned or lost.
I'm hoping she manages on her own. Obviously I'll intervene if something is amiss but I really want it to be straightforward.

She's a beautiful cat and won the cat lottery finding a kind slave like yourself.

ThePreviewPoster · 29/02/2020 20:06

How lovely! Following with interest. Good luck Mumma Cat Alex!

Guiltypleasures001 · 29/02/2020 22:35

Checking in for cute scrummy kit pics Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/03/2020 08:30

I’m not surprised she’s lying down a lot they must be really heavy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/03/2020 13:05

Are you a grandma yet? 😀

EachandEveryone · 03/03/2020 13:56

Oh this reallynis a lovely thread for a change.

WildCherryBlossom · 03/03/2020 15:13

@EachandEveryone we are really in need of happy positive threads aren't we. More kittens please! ❤️

ScouseMar · 03/03/2020 18:21

Where are you kittens?!

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 13:23

Sorry I've not been on the thread.
She's still not had them!
Vet says she will be approx 70 days end of next week so to ring Wednesday if she's still not had them.
I'm assuming they will do caesarian at that point?

amazedmummy · 05/03/2020 16:12

Poor girl! What size will these things be? Are they born with more fur if they're overdue?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2020 16:19

Never mind the fur, what about the claws?.

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 05:28

THE KITTENS ARE COMING!!
One is out but I can't get a decent photo
