Is it completely crazy to buy DCat her own cashmere blanket?

My gorgeous girl is an Arabian Mau and as such, doesn't have a 'vest' underneath her main coat. We live in the ME and for most of the time, her lack of vest isn't a problem given the heat, but right now it's pretty cold!

This morning, I'm getting ready to go to work and I make the mistake of laying my long cashmere cardigan on the bed. Next thing you know, she's snuggled herself almost inside it and was most upset when I had to move her.

I am now seriously considering buying her her own cashmere blanket so she can be cosy all the time. Has anybody else been lured into buying their creatures extravagant items because you can't bear to see/hear them unhappy? Or am I bonkers?

Grin Could you buy something on ebay? That’s what I did. Lots of lovely cashmere.
RachelTension · 27/01/2020 12:15

Didn't even think about Ebay, right I'm looking..

My cat loves cashmere and tries to suckle it. But maybe something second hand would be less extravagant!

Peony99 · 27/01/2020 12:19

Presumably being a cat she'd ignore her own cashmere and continue to go for yours? Especially if you spend £££ on it.

Contrary souls.

MmeBufo · 27/01/2020 12:20

No I absolutely wouldn’t. Our cats are Siamese (also no vest) and manage just fine with non-cashmere blankets here in Europe. I’d consider getting them a heat pad if they struggle with the cold at any point, but so far they haven’t. My oldest is 13 so there have been several properly cold, snowy winters in her lifetime.

Get her a nice blanket that isn’t cashmere and donate the difference in price to the children suffering in Yemen, or some such. FFS.

TARSCOUT · 27/01/2020 12:23

Your money, your cat, buy what you want.

RickOShay · 27/01/2020 12:31

Hope you find something.

Myshitisreal · 27/01/2020 12:34

I agree buy if it makes you happy. Our two are currently sleeping on a very chunky lovely cardigan I bought myself from a charity shop (when I put it on and seen how genuinely terrible it looked, I had to get rid). They also have a blabber I bought myself from primark a fleecy one. I gave then it in the end. They often beat the shit out of each other for the prime blanket 😂 they also have my old marks dressing gown which they love. I change the things up so the dressing gown is hidden. I change things around every so often

Myshitisreal · 27/01/2020 12:34

Blanket, not blabber 👀

Weetabollocks · 27/01/2020 12:37

My moggy had a phase of sleeping on a fake cashmere scarf I had from primark. She's over it now and on a pet fleece on a dining room chair Grin

You're already on it, but I'd look for cheap cashmere in charity shops or ebay rather than a new luxury expensive blanket :)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/01/2020 12:50

I just donated an old cashmere jumper that had shrunk. Buy her her own blanket if you think she will like it, but choose a colour that you like just in case!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/01/2020 12:54

You are completely bonkers. No-one in their right mind would buy cashmere for a cat. But then no true cat lover is ever in their right mind. Too enslaved.

I would so get my lad a cashmere blanket 😂. Go for it, photo please!

midwestfornow · 27/01/2020 12:56

I have a heat pad (which is basically a tiny electric blanket) for my elderly Siamese.

SunStruck · 27/01/2020 13:00

Haha we also live in the Middle East, and you're right it's FREEZING now! We got our two Arabian Mau's a pet heating pad and got fleece blankets to wrap around the pad. They LOVE it...

Twenty2 · 27/01/2020 13:18

In answer to your last question in your OP @RachelTension; yes! Grin

Cats expect to be treated as royalty, so don't be mean and buy her her own cashmere blankie!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/01/2020 13:23

Definitely not being unreasonable! My cats have a teepee.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/01/2020 13:24

Cheddar also has a heat pad. With a custom made fleece cover.

sunshinesupermum · 27/01/2020 13:28

Cats get cold indoors? Seriously? Must ask Gertie if she can cope without a cashmere blanket.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/01/2020 13:33

I've never even considered buying a cashmere blanket for our cats!

But if i was going to I'd probably put a ad on our local FB. page asking if anyone is getting rid of a cashmere scarf/jumper. If they get motholes in them they aren't fit for the charity shop even so people might be glad to get rid of them. If they are moth ridden just stick them in the freezer for a bit.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2020 13:41

Do it. I often thought mine would like a Moses basket but I never bought him one in case everyone thought I was crackers but then he died and I wish I’d just done it because he would have loved it.

Buy two, one to wash one to snuggle into.

Bufferingkisses · 27/01/2020 13:45

A company called turtle doves make things with recycled cashmere including scarves, neck warmers etc. Theh have a sale on at the moment. I bet a neck warmer wrapped around a heat pad would be kitty heaven!

showgirl63 · 27/01/2020 14:08

Mine love their cashmere blanket when it's cold! My son wants one too but I'm not that extravagant 😊

Is it completely crazy to buy DCat her own cashmere blanket?
Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2020 14:10

Yeah you’ve got to know where to draw the line @showgirl63 😹

RachelTension · 27/01/2020 17:37

I'm looking at all of those options, didn't find anything I liked on EBay... and I'm going to need more info on that teepee toddlerteaplease.

I am loving all these ideas - recycled items, what a great idea and good to know I'm not totally mad to consider it Grin

sunshine yes unfortunately, the houses are built to keep cool so during the winter months with stone floors and no central heating, it can get pretty cold.

showgirl your kitty looks so comfy. I'll post a pic of mine from this morning when I'm back on my phone.
