Cat causes woman to lose job and Facebook friends (not my cat!)

There's a charity shop just up the road from my office, I always call in on a Friday for a browse. Recently a little cat has appeared there; he makes himself comfortable on the suitcases outside and all the passers-by/customers stop and make a fuss of him. Today I went inside (after purrs and headbutts from the kitty) and idly commented to one of the ladies working there what a gorgeous cat he is. She replied 'Oh yes, he's lovely. Feral, but Doreen took him to the shelter and got him neutered, pity I can't take him but I've got three of my own' etc etc. I sorted of nodded sympathetically and said he looks happy and well fed.

The other lady (I think the manager) then butted in 'Well Doreen no longer works here! I had to let her go last week because she let the cat into the shop and it got trapped inside overnight and wee'd on the floor! And then she sent me a load of nasty messages on Facebook so I had to block her, and now Brian and Gordon aren't speaking either. I've had enough!' Shock

I backed slowly out of the shop, stroked cute cat and fled. I really want to join the local Facebook group to glean more info Grin (names have been changed to protect the innocent Wink)

Well, Kloppy has settled in very quickly and has discovered the cat toys and tunnel - currently running around squeaking in delight... note the toppled-over vase to the left of the TV Grin

Not much wrong in his world now!

Wereallsquare · 07/02/2020 16:16

Aw, heartwarming to see Kloppy settling in so easily. There's nowt like kitten energy, is there?

purrswhileheeats · 07/02/2020 16:30

I know! Can't believe how he arrived yesterday, did a cursory perimeter check and just decided that he liked it here after being an outdoor cat Confused

Oh god he's going mental again with the tunnel after my thinking he'd settled down for purry cuddles 😳🙀

purrswhileheeats · 07/02/2020 20:45

I've just sung 'Soft kitty' to him... he's now licking his arse 😹

Wereallsquare · 07/02/2020 21:51

@TheLongRider Your tabby is adorable.

@purrswhileheeats I hope Kloppy lets you sleep through the night after his active day!

nettie434 · 07/02/2020 22:37

Ok Kloppy is lovely purrswhileheeats. How fantastic that he now has got a home. Jurgen Klopp always wears a grey jacket so it is a very suitable name.

Your cat is lovely too Thelongrider. Is that displaced girlcat in the cardboard box?

TheLongRider · 07/02/2020 23:06

Girlcat is a lean, mean, black, bitey mog. She glares at tabby boy and refuses to use her "contaminated" basket. Here she is in happier times.

(Whispers so Tabby Boy can’t hear) It’s a slightly better fit for her TheLongRider but who could question Tabby Boy’s judgement when he looks so happy in his appropriated basket?

Jux · 07/02/2020 23:30

Here's my Tabster, Scourge of All He Surveys. Getting on now (15), and a little arthritic.

@nettie434 TabbyBoy loves sprawling. There's usually a paw or a tail sticking out. He's a little bit smaller than GirlCat, with stubby paws.

OP - I hope Kloppy has calmed down for the night and isn't trying to exert his authority over your other cats. Any new cat of mine has been humble and non-threatening for about a fortnight, then their true personalities emerge...

purrswhileheeats · 09/02/2020 13:38

Kloppy has calmed down and settled into his new home, he did make a dash for freedom earlier Shock but fortunately I managed to grab him before he went too far. Dcats 1&2 don't seem too bothered by him but dcat3 is still unimpressed so having to give her extra cuddles so she doesn't get jealous. Luckily the weather is ok so it's easy enough to keep them separate.

The litter trays though! I'd forgotten how much piss and poo one tiny little kitty can generate 😱😵😷

Wereallsquare · 09/02/2020 17:11

And it is always amazing how much they can eat at that age! Hence the waste by the tonne. Glad you caught him before he did something silly.

Cuddles from me to dcat3.

purrswhileheeats · 13/02/2020 17:54

Heard little triumphant squeaks just now, found him on top of the kitchen cabinet looking very pleased with himself 🙀

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/02/2020 18:08

How does he propose o get down again?.

purrswhileheeats · 13/02/2020 18:25

He's down now via the fridge Fluffy. He's having a well deserved rest on the sofa now and engrossed in an episode of How I Met Your Mother Grin

nettie434 · 13/02/2020 23:28

engrossed in an episode of How I Met Your Mother

That’s because he thinks they should do a remake about you met each other at the shop. Do you think Doreen would make a guest appearance too?

incognitomum · 13/02/2020 23:40

He has amazing eyes...very knowing.

Jux · 14/02/2020 00:21

He's so handsome. Are his paws big? Are they sweaty? Our tabby had huge paws as a kitten and they were all sweaty too (sounds horrible but it was so cute!). He would leave sweaty footprints behind him....

He's grown into his paws now and they are no longer sweaty, though he does drool a bit - he's 15 and getting on a bit.

I do love kittens at Kloppy's sort of age. They're as lively and curious and funny and cute as kittens but they're a bit bigger so easier to grab when necessary! And they tend to have stopped trying to climb the curtains.

GuppytheCat · 14/02/2020 09:35

And they tend to have stopped trying to climb the curtains.

Ours is 6 months old and climbs me instead.

Frankly, I think the curtains were preferable.

purrswhileheeats · 14/02/2020 15:11

He does have big paws Jux but definitely not sweaty Grin He is very knowing and clever; clever enough to make me fall in love with him and steal him 😹

He hasn't been climbing the curtains thankfully but REALLY enjoyed the new game of Changing The Bed Sheets the other day HmmShockGrin

purrswhileheeats · 25/02/2020 17:13

Oh I feel really shit today Sad I sauntered up to the charity shop and there is Kloppy's double hanging around. I didn't realise he had a sibling 😿 Poor baby is probably wondering WTF happened to his brother (who is living it up in his new home and has forgotten all about him)

Aarghh!

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 25/02/2020 17:18

Surely now you have yet another cat?

InglouriousBasterd · 25/02/2020 17:31

Number 5?! Grin

purrswhileheeats · 25/02/2020 17:33

@TwoHeaded yes, in an ideal world. However I'd have to buy another house as dcats 1 & 3 are still miffed about Kloppy Confused
