Cat causes woman to lose job and Facebook friends (not my cat!)

There's a charity shop just up the road from my office, I always call in on a Friday for a browse. Recently a little cat has appeared there; he makes himself comfortable on the suitcases outside and all the passers-by/customers stop and make a fuss of him. Today I went inside (after purrs and headbutts from the kitty) and idly commented to one of the ladies working there what a gorgeous cat he is. She replied 'Oh yes, he's lovely. Feral, but Doreen took him to the shelter and got him neutered, pity I can't take him but I've got three of my own' etc etc. I sorted of nodded sympathetically and said he looks happy and well fed.

The other lady (I think the manager) then butted in 'Well Doreen no longer works here! I had to let her go last week because she let the cat into the shop and it got trapped inside overnight and wee'd on the floor! And then she sent me a load of nasty messages on Facebook so I had to block her, and now Brian and Gordon aren't speaking either. I've had enough!' Shock

I backed slowly out of the shop, stroked cute cat and fled. I really want to join the local Facebook group to glean more info Grin (names have been changed to protect the innocent Wink)

Thanks everyone! He spent a couple of hours at my shop, purring and exploring and he's home now! I stopped at the vet on the way home, she said he's 7/8 months Shock Sorry for the blurry pics but he wouldn't keep still Grin I'll hopefully get some better ones later if and when he finally settles down 😹

Oooooh! I am soooooo happy to meet Jurgen Klopp! He is gorgeous!!! So glad he is home! Congrats on the new family member, Flowers Flowers @purrswhileheeats!

How have the intros to the rest of the family been?

igotdemons · 06/02/2020 15:42

He is absolutely gorgeous (I do have a soft spot for grey tabbies though ☺️)!!! 😻 Thank you for taking him in, he deserves a loving home 😻 Do you know what you’re going to call him yet? 😺

igotdemons · 06/02/2020 15:44

Sorry OP, didn’t see your post about Jurgen Klopp! 😹

JoJothesquirrel · 06/02/2020 15:45

Oh heck, I can see when you couldn’t resist that face. Congratulations to your new colleague.

HauntedSocks · 06/02/2020 15:49

Gorgeous 😻😻😻😻😻

purrswhileheeats · 06/02/2020 16:01

He already appears to be answering to Kloppy Kat and Kitty Klopp so I think that name is going to stick Grin

The other cats all looked a bit bewildered and have gone out; they'll be fine I think but I will have to keep them separate tonight and tomorrow (mine are used to being out during the day so tomorrow won't be a problem).

He's a proper little street cat and used to climbing everywhere, it's going to be fun trying to train him not to jump on the work surfaces Grin

TheLongRider · 06/02/2020 16:08

He's going to be a right little tabby terrorist! Our latest cat is like that, completely unfazed about his new circumstances and into everything. Mine is a shite climber though, the number of times I've seen him slide off things is crazy.

Enjoy your new overlord.

Wereallsquare · 06/02/2020 16:08

Oh, loving the nicknames already. It will be so much fun for you to learn about his preferences and quirks.

purrswhileheeats · 06/02/2020 16:27

You're right @TheLongRider I could have a TC mk2 on my hands. He's so confident and comfortable inside despite never being in a house before, poor bugger Grin

I did ask the charity shop ladies to tell 'Doreen' that I'd taken him; apparently she was still feeding him twice a day even after she was banished from the shop Hmm

EachandEveryone · 06/02/2020 16:37

Poor Doreen I wonder why she didn’t take him? Nice of her to take him to the vet. I hope she gets the message. He’s a lovely little lad. How are you juggling keeping him in with the other two going out?

EachandEveryone · 06/02/2020 16:37

Ps have you showed him the litter tray?🙂

Beamur · 06/02/2020 16:45

Handsome cat.
So confident and cheerful too!

purrswhileheeats · 06/02/2020 16:51

Doreen couldn't take him as she had too many cats of her own that's what I said She'd taken him to a charity that does the free TNR but the shelter was overflowing hence he ended up back at the charity shop.

I have showed him the litter tray but he just gave me a blank look. He's had plenty to eat and drink so hopefully he'll work it out?!

purrswhileheeats · 06/02/2020 16:54

He is confident and happy; he purred all the way home in the car and even louder when the vet examined him Confused

slipperywhensparticus · 06/02/2020 16:56

You need to get your thread titled changed to now my cat 😁

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/02/2020 17:09

The local coop had a cat. They put a basket outside and a sign saying please do not feed (he actually lived in a house round the corner)

He once ended up at the local Morrison's begging for food

Hes moved now but i often wonder if he managed to find another coop

Jux · 06/02/2020 17:29

Yay! It's so true that the cat chooses you, you don't choose the cat. They come into your life when you need them.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 06/02/2020 17:30

He’s a wee baby. 😍 I have two, but they’re 18 and 19yrs old.

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2020 17:47

Have I got this right? That the Op said last night that no way could she get the cat till next Thursday? Yet didn’t actually need much persuading to get him today? Grin
He is beautiful, Op, congratulations.
Re shop cats, our local Spar has a cat who sits outside and lives around the corner, I think. Last time I went a store assistant was hugging him, and had made a bed for him in the newspaper stand.

purrswhileheeats · 06/02/2020 18:47

No Papergirl! I (the OP) said on Tuesday I couldn't get him until today (Thursday.. I think?)

Anyway, he's just done a big stinky poo in the litter tray and and looking very pleased with himself Grin

Brilliant 😄

TheLongRider · 06/02/2020 20:07

This is my Tabby terrorist. The basket he's in belonged to Girlcat but it's been his since December.

Oh I see! I was getting my days mixed up.
So glad he has used the litter tray. Clever boy!
