I'm about to adopt the foster kitten we've had with us since birth.

Her name - which wasn't our choice - is Guppy. She's been Guppy for nearly 10 weeks now and it's stuck.

DS, DD and DH insist that that is her One True Name and cannot be changed but they'll concede that she can have a suitably similar alias for the vet.

Any suggestions? They've already vetoed Augusta and Agatha.

Regulation (and completely identifying) picture attached, I do hope.

I think Guppy suits her and is a cute name. Could you perhaps make it double barrelled for vet purposes - something to go with your surname :
Guppy- Jo
Guppy- Flo
Guppy- Mo
Guppy - Zoe

Sounds a bit daft written down I grant you but I bet she will have lots of nicknames in time.

TheLongRider · 28/10/2019 15:27

Guipure - it's a type of lace fabric. Perfect for her markings. That's her Sunday name for best and Guppy for family.

MandyLou87 · 28/10/2019 15:30

I had a cat called guppy. He came with the name but I had guppy fish at the time and it stuck. He was a Tom cat a bit worse for wear in looks but a big softie, the vet thought he was cool and liked his name. Its different to all the standard cat names.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 28/10/2019 15:35

Plus, she thinks she's a dog, and plays fetch and tug - we had a tortoiseshell cat just like Guppy that used to play fetch.

Honestly, torties are real characters. They do some odd and crazy things so there will never be a dull moment!

meow1989 · 28/10/2019 15:37

Oh I like Guppy!

meow1989 · 28/10/2019 15:37

I mean as a name, though I do also very much like the look of Guppy as a cat.

hariboismydrug · 28/10/2019 15:44

I had a rabbit who I called Madonna.
She cut her foot whilst I was at school one day and my dad took her to the vet.
When he returned he said he'd never been so embarrassed as the waiting room was full and he wasn't expecting the vet to shout the rabbits name 😂
Years later we adopted a stray cat and he said there's no way it's having a cringe name so he was lovingly called Brian lol

My favourite cats name is Gustav so how about Gustavia?

Becbobs · 28/10/2019 15:47

Looks just like my parents'cat, who is called Mimi. It suits her cos she's just a fluffy little dot 😂 I also like Lilu, and my (girl) cat is called Ditty.

CanThingsChange35 · 28/10/2019 15:48

Or Gretchen. She looks like a Greta/Gretchen to me!

Darksideofthemoon19 · 28/10/2019 15:59

We have Demelza. Dh had a love for poldark 😂

TroysMammy · 28/10/2019 16:04

I've got a Haribo because I love Tangfastics.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 16:20

A surprising number of these names already belong to either family members or (current and previous) pets!

I second having an official name of "Puppy" if you don't want Guppy. Halloween Wink. Or just go with Guppy. There will be someone cringing with embarrassment when "Princess Floofy-Bottom" is called out and you won't feel too bad after all.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 16:46

Hmm, 'Gretchen-The-Puppy' has potential.

(How did you know what our other cat was called, Binky?)

wheresmymojo · 28/10/2019 17:26

This is of no help to you whatsoever OP but it does remind me of a cat that was being offered for re-homing on Pets4Home that had been called....

Gonad.

Imagine that being called out at the vets Confused

Geekynzmum · 28/10/2019 17:33

My mum's cat's official name is Diamond, but she only answers to Binky. Grin

Loveislandaddict · 28/10/2019 17:39

Eva!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/10/2019 21:24

Aww she's gorgeous Grin

When we were doing a names list for our Cats-To-Be ( all colours and male/female to cover all eventualities ) my tortoiseshell 'name' was Twix

You can change the name easily , its not like the little blighters answer to them Wink

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 21:41

How true!

Giuseppina is the Italian version of the English name Josephine.

Idea86 · 29/10/2019 00:11

I would go with Goldie. It matches her markings and doesn't sound toooo dissimilar to her current name.

PotterHead1985 · 29/10/2019 00:28

My tortie is called Smudge.
My previous tortie was Tails (Sonic fan as a kid).
My rescue dog came with his name. Get some funny looks calling it when on walks. It's (outing to anyone who knows me!) Beethoven.

Ohmygod123 · 29/10/2019 07:00

Gertrude - guppy for nn
