Cat food and no deal Brexit

Just wondering if anyone is stockpiling cat food, or putting at least putting a little extra aside. Adults in the house will have to make do, but I'm starting to wonder if I should have a few boxes put aside for the boys, as they'll be hell to play if I can't have their usual.

Yes, mainly because some of the foods we use the most are only available through ZooPlus and shipped from Germany. I think it's worth having a small stockpile at least especially if your cats eat something specific.

Missingthesea · 19/09/2019 17:59

We've been buying an extra box each time we do the "big shop".

9Greenbottles · 19/09/2019 18:01

I have, and did before March too - the cats ate that during the summer. It won't go to waste.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 18:04

Yep. Been adding my overlord's preferred cat food and litter (and Dreamies) in dribs and drabs over the past few months.
I dug into it a bit over the summer and have been building it back up.

inwood · 19/09/2019 18:05

I have but mine is on a specialist diabetic diet. If he could eat anything I probably wouldn't bother.

inwood · 19/09/2019 18:06

Oops, mine is a 🐶!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/09/2019 18:07

It's not even crossed my mind!

Parker231 · 19/09/2019 18:08

Where is the cat food you use from?

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 18:10

I get Applaws dry from Amazon. I get some Applaws Kitten wet food for a snack also from Amazon.
Dreamies, I get from Sainsbury's.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 18:11

It is "Made in the EU"

MotherSpider · 19/09/2019 18:18

Definitely. Have stockpiled for the rest of the family so why not the pets too? Building up supplies of food, medication and cat litter.

FlyingFlamingo · 19/09/2019 19:30

Yes, I have an extra large bag of Applaws here and I’ll do a tins order from Zooplus in mid Oct, and maybe some litter too. I actually messaged Zooplus before the end of March and they were quite reassuring though because Applaws is made in the U.K., but I’m fairly sure the meat they use comes from Thailand.

I’m more concerned about Bigcat’s gabapentin - luckily the vet thinks she takes more than she does so I have built up a bit of a stock that I’ll keep adding to, I’ve worjed out that I will have enough to last until December if I order some next week and some at the end of October.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 19:35

@FlyingFlamingo , my Applaws packet says Made in the EU

FlyingFlamingo · 19/09/2019 19:37

This was their response in March
“Good Morning, apologies for the delay in replying to your message. While we are of course planning for the various Brexit scenarios, we don’t so far have any expectations that we will have to significantly change our business model in the UK. As Applaws is a UK supplier we do not foresee any supply issues with this brand.”

ListeningQuietly · 19/09/2019 19:41

Yup
I used to keep a week in hand
now I have an extra month hidden in the back of a cupboard

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 19:43

Excellent @FlyingFlamingo . Let's hope the Made in the EU on the pack means UK.

Gingerkittykat · 19/09/2019 22:23

I do wonder about zooplus and how it will change since I buy specialist food from there much cheaper than anywhere else.

I just got a delivery of a 6 month supply of dry (not stockpiling, my normal order) but I might buy a few boxes of wet too.

Parker231 · 19/09/2019 22:44

Have ordered three months supply of dog and cat food for our spoilt pets who would rather go on hunger strike rather than eat a different brand.

Madmog · 20/09/2019 10:52

Thanks for your replies. They have Felix, Applaws and Thrive which I think are all manufactured in the UK, but I don't know about all the ingredients. Sometimes Smilia.

I regularly do my shopping on foot, so will get the odd extra Felix box when I can. I think I'll get an order in for the Smilia and Applaws, and try and get to Sainsburys (some distance) for the Thrive as it's much cheaper. Didn't want to look like I was unnecessarily panicking.

Pets at Home said quite a while ago that they were stockpiling for Brexit.

ifonly4 · 20/09/2019 15:32

Can I ask how much everyone has put aside?

I usually have about ten boxes of pouches in for my two, which would last approx three weeks alongside dry.

unwravellingagain · 20/09/2019 15:38

We buy huge 10kg bags of dry food, and have two in hand at the moment, and we are slowly building up the Felix stockpile. But they mostly eat biscuits, and if we can't get these ones, it's will be hairball and cystitis armageddon here, so that's my priority.

I'm almost more worried about the cat food: I can survive off mixed tins for ages, but can't explain anything to the cats.

Parker231 · 20/09/2019 15:39

I’ve ordered three months for both the dog and cat and have another three weeks supply which we’re currently using.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 15:40

Just did a check in the garage. I have 6 x 2kg bags of Applaws dry. And maybe a couple of sets of 24 Applaws kitten that she has as a treat.
I have a few tins of Butcher's choice as my fall back food.
And a couple of mega pots of Dreamies.
Litter? About 6 bags. She goes through 1/2 bag a week.
I buy extra bits over time as I go and have been doing for the past year.
But I'm a general prepper so that kind of buffer is normal for me.

Allergictoironing · 20/09/2019 16:34

I've just done my regular Zooplus order, so have 12kg of their daily dry and 4kg of their other dry, which should last them quite a while as they seem to use maybe 120-150g per day between them. Only got just under 2 months of their wet, but I don't see Felix AGAIL being on shortage.
