My neighbour adopted a timid cat from a rescue place at the weekend. Last night it disappeared through a window.

I don’t know where to start to look for it. I’ve suggested putting the litter tray outside and some food. But other than that I’m clueless.

So calling on the advice of the litter tray!! What on Earth can I do and where to start looking? We are rural.

I’m concerned for the welfare of this poor kitty.

Update!

I have actually seen her. She was sitting on the wall staring at our front door. DH called me to have a look. She was looking very happy. So I went out to see her waving a pouch of food like an idiot human! She darted off, but I spoke to her to tell her how lovely she is. (After she had gone because I think she was listening).

As for how long she will stay in NDN house, I can’t say. I hope she does stay because they will love her loads if she lets them.

I’m pretty confident I know her hiding spot now.

I’m shaking a dreamies tub each night for my cat and last night a few dropped in the dark. She didn’t eat them, they are still there. She must hear me calling my cat in and shaking the tub. The whole village can hear me, except my cat who cannot hear me calling.

Ah, bless her! Glad you have seen her. She is obviously now very comfortable in her new territory Smile

Wilmalovescake · 19/09/2019 10:28

Oh please adopt her. I know you’ve said no but please please please 😍

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/09/2019 16:18

She has an owner, I can’t steal her! She will live next door so I will see her. If I can get her to her owner.

I'm just worried they won't be able to keep her in long enough.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/09/2019 16:24

Me too, but the rescue said they have to return the cat to the legal owner, if she escapes again then they can do something.

Gulp..

The trap has arrived. It looks scary. I have practiced setting it up. I don’t think the cat will go in the first night.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 20/09/2019 18:11

Ooh good luck with that 😬

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/09/2019 20:15

The trap is ready. DH said I can’t believe we are going to all this effort and we aren’t getting a cat out of it Grin

I can’t see that the cat will go in. Poor thing is terrified, we saw her dash off as we went outside. She’s not a confident cat, this is going to make her worse. But it’s necessary to get her back home.

Good luck. What are the neighbours saying about all this? Have they understood they will need to keep her in for a long time?

SirVixofVixHall · 20/09/2019 20:36

Op you are lovely.
Wishing you the best here with cat. I feel pretty annoyed that a rescue would home such a young cat with very elderly people, what happens when they die ?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/09/2019 20:46

Thanks for all the positive thoughts! I couldn’t have got this far without all the support here. I really really appreciate it.

I don’t know about the ethics of the rescue place. What I do know is they are being very helpful towards me to get this poor cat home. Yes, I expect they have homed this cat with the wrong people, but I don’t expect they have people queuing out of the door to take cats. Especially timid ones. I’m sure they do the best they can.

I’m really worried about trapping this cat. But she can’t stay outside for ever.

How does a trap work? Do you have to be nearby to get her once she's in?

Sending you positive vibes, hopefully she'll soon be curled up indoors with the NDNs and firmly shut windows and doors!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/09/2019 21:30

It’s quite big and heavy. It’s a long cage. You set it so it’s open and the food is inside, when the cat steps on part of the floor of the trap the door they entered through shuts. One part is a clear window. So they think it’s a tunnel.

When she’s in there we will have to keep her inside the trap until we can return her to NDN. Depends on time etc. But if it happens in the middle of the night we will carry the whole thing to their house. And release the trap inside the safety the house, doors and windows shut.

If she was my cat, I’d stay up all night to bring her in ASAP. But NDN will be asleep. So we can’t disturb them til morning.

Well done OP , you’ve gone above and beyond . Have you made sure they know to keep the windows completely shut this time ?

DeborahAnnabelToo · 20/09/2019 22:30

Just read this whole thread. Well done Dobby, this was down to your perseverance and patience. I hope your neighbour was grateful for your efforts and I hope the cat settles in her new home.

thecatneuterer · 20/09/2019 22:35

Well done!!! Are their windows properly shut?

SirVixofVixHall · 20/09/2019 22:36

How wonderful ! All thanks to you ! I hope they look after her , they sounded overwhelmed by the whole thing.
Keep us posted op .

TarquinGyrfalcon · 20/09/2019 22:40

You are a super-star! Lucky cat and lucky neighbours.
I hope that everything goes smoothly from now on.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/09/2019 22:41

We shut all the windows before we released the cat. We also said several times. “Keep the windows shut, she doesn’t need fresh air”

NDN was emotional and so overjoyed. Cat went straight for the window and hung there.

I felt the cat definitely knew us and has been watching us.

Cat went straight for the window and hung there They do seem to do that a lot. She'll calm down. Well done again.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/09/2019 22:48

I think the cat has taken to you op, and decided she wants to be your cat. My feeling is that as soon as they let her out she will be straight back to yours. Hopefully they will keep her in for long enough, and give her enough tlc that she will start to bond with them, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Well done OP. What a great result. Flowers
