My neighbour adopted a timid cat from a rescue place at the weekend. Last night it disappeared through a window.

I don’t know where to start to look for it. I’ve suggested putting the litter tray outside and some food. But other than that I’m clueless.

So calling on the advice of the litter tray!! What on Earth can I do and where to start looking? We are rural.

I’m concerned for the welfare of this poor kitty.

Keep putting it out OP. Preferably something smelly like hot tuna in case she’s a little further away. Don’t give up!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/09/2019 11:07

I admit to feeling hopeless.

I’ll warm tuna tonight and see if I get any joy.

I keep thinking even if she does come back, she’s going to be a bag of nerves for ages. Not sure NDN has time to coax her into a new life.

I assume no one else has seen her hanging around? Sad

Keep trying, she may hopefully come back. Can you put food out at different times in case you're missing her?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/09/2019 13:22

No sightings, but we are really rural.

I’ve been putting the food out when it gets dark. Otherwise I know my cat would eat the food.

It’s only me searching, my NDN has given up. She is really devastated.

I’ve done a Facebook post and posters. Feel so sad for the cat.

Can you find out roughly which area she came from before being at the rescue and then Facebook/ contact vets etc along that route incase she’s trying to head home?

Although I’m keeping my fingers crossed that another cat has just moved her out of her spot and she’s hiding a bit further away but still nearby

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 13/09/2019 14:14

If you haven't seen her for a while, I wonder if the poor thing will try and head back to the rescue place, as that's where she last saw her kittens? Sad

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/09/2019 14:52

Oh @PickwickThePlockingDodo
That’s such a sad thought.

It’s a far way away. She has a collar on with the rescue number, so they are hoping she’ll be found by that. TBH the idea of a missing cat wearing a collar worries me.

No idea where she came from prior to the rescue.

We are surrounded by fields so plenty of places to hide and not be seen.

Plenty of mice to hunt too- hopefully she's having the time of her life Smile

This link on lost cat behaviour really helped me when I lost my cat (twice).

www.missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/

He had both times stayed in the area as the website had predicted. The reason it’s important the food is strong smelling is in case she’s been scared off a few gardens away eg by another cat.

Hope you find her.

Thank you. I’ve read it. Quite sad.

I’ve warmed some tuna in the microwave (it stinks) and put it outside again.

I don’t think she will come back. I think she was too scared when she arrived and then escaped so soon.

The warm tuna has gone! I could be feeding another cat. But I’ve put more cat food out.

Would be lovely to have something positive to tell my neighbour.

TrainspottingWelsh · 13/09/2019 22:00

Fingers crossed it’s her

Mia184 · 13/09/2019 22:09

I hope it was her and that you will catch her!

Rivkka · 13/09/2019 22:10

Oh I hope it's her.

Your neighbours are lucky to have you.

Wilmalovescake · 13/09/2019 22:12

Come on pusscat.

OP you are lovely.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/09/2019 22:23

Aww, thank you.

I think my neighbour is getting fed up with my attempts.

I really hope it’s her.

I'm sure it will be her, sometimes when they are scared they wait until they are absolutely desperate for food before venturing out, especially if there are other cats in the area. Don't forget to leave water too!

stayathomegardener · 14/09/2019 08:05

I personally wouldn't tell your neighbours any more updates.

It would not be in the cats interests to go back there.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2019 08:37

I decided last night not to update my neighbours. I think it’s overwhelming them at the moment. The rescue told them she’d return, so they are waiting for that to happen.

I do hope it’s her. The tuna was very smelly, I’ll try it again tonight. If it’s her, she must be starving.

The water is out all the time.

Following for cat updates. You're very kind op.

If kitty comes back, I don't think she should go back to NDN

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2019 08:45

If she comes back then I don’t know.

I think she wasn’t the right match for NDN. NDN is talking about getting a kitten. I am trying to convince that’s a bad idea.

I’m really soft when it comes to animals.

OP posts:
Emmapeeler · 14/09/2019 08:53

Ooh, just seen your update Smile

Hope it’s her OP. And if it is, she knows where to come back for food now. We are all rooting for her to return.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2019 09:52

Thanks all. I’m sure it’s her. I really want to keep her coming for food and not run away into the fields never to be seen again.

It is all your advice that is really helping.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2019 09:53

Also to add, I’m not doing this to steal this kitty, I don’t need another cat. I am purely doing this to keep her safe and alive.
