Hand hold needed. My baby girl is in the vets after collapsing

I have a beautiful baby girl cat, she's not quite 2 yet. She has single pawedly got me through the last year or so of MH issues just be being the best and most loving cat I've ever known. I love her more than most people.

She came in about 9pm last night and was a bit quiet and off her food. Came down this morning and she went to jump on the windowsill but couldn't get up, she then collapsed and couldn't walk and was trying to crawl away from me but couldn't get up.

I rushed her to the emergency vets, by which time she could walk again but seemed really dazed and confused. Normally at the vets she is constantly trying to climb up onto me and hide but she just laid on the table with her eyes half closed.

They have kept her in for observation and tests.

Please please keep everything crossed that she is going to be ok. I really don't think I could cope with losing her.

Glad she's eating well atm. Would ask vet about back legs - would guess its connected to kidney problems if she's only two. Would just give lots of food and cuddles and hope she regains her strength.

cricketmum84 · 12/07/2019 18:20

Excellent news from the repeat bloods today.

Creatinine has gone from 450 to 350 in 2 days
Urea down from 31 to 26
Phosphorus within normal range.

Even the vet couldn't believe the improvement.

I mentioned the wobbly legs and she agreed maybe it's from being cooped up in the hospital for so long but we are keeping an eye on it. She's happy that the tenderness and pain around her kidneys is no longer there too!

Trying her with the tuna royal Canin now, she's eaten about half and is now snoozing on the sofa next to me with her head on her paws 🐾

That's great news - hope you have a lovely weekend together with lots of cuddles and lots of food and she continues to improve. Sounds very hopeful.

Infamy · 12/07/2019 19:01

De lurking to say amazing update - go Ivy! She sounds incredible and I have my fingers and paws crossed for you and for her. Smile

PocaNinja · 12/07/2019 19:18

Read this thread for the first time today and my gosh it’s an emotional rollercoaster! @cricketmum84 so so sorry to hear this about your gorgeous baby but the update today sounds positive and I hope it continues. Please do keep us updated.

cricketmum84 · 12/07/2019 19:21

@PocaNinja tell me about it! I'm exhausted. It's been a constant 48 hour cycle or stress and worry. But she's fighting very very hard. Love her fluff 😍

So pleased for you both - and brilliant news about her results. Is the prognosis still the same with her improvement? Paws crossed she can overcome the damage done and you can manage it with renal food and regular checkups Flowers

Sakura7 · 12/07/2019 21:23

Amazing news! If she keeps this up she could well have a much better prognosis. Glad you finally get to relax a bit and enjoy some time with her at home.

My cat loves the tuna and beef flavours of royal canin. I alternate with another brand (Animoda intergra) from zooplus as she can sometimes get bored with the same brand. Might take a bit of mix and match (and normal food with the binder).

Sometimes stress levels can affect their recovery and they've obviously gone right down since she's been home. Grin

Sakura7 · 16/07/2019 11:57

How is Ivy doing now cricketmum84?

Normaknowall · 16/07/2019 13:50

I hope you enjoy every minute of the time you have with her. Here's hoping it's a long time and she keeps improving.

cricketmum84 · 16/07/2019 20:19

Still going strong @Sakura7 thanks for asking :)

She's jumping around like a crazy thing and her legs seem a lot less wobbly, especially when she is leaping over me and jumping up for cuddles!

She's not to keen on the renal care pouches but I've got a few different ones to try that I'm mixing half and half with normal food. She is loving the hills k/d biscuits though!

Next bloods due for Friday. Hoping for an improvement!!

Keeping our paws and fingers crossed here.

Sakura7 · 16/07/2019 20:37

That's great news, hopefully all will go well on Friday!

Yeah it's a slow process getting started with the renal food but she sounds like she's doing ok. It's great that she seems well in herself and is jumping around the place :)

cricketmum84 · 19/07/2019 17:43

Just had an unbelievable call from the vets.

All but one of her kidney levels from today's blood tests are within normal levels!! They are amazed (as am I).

Now if that doesn't show the power of prayers and positive thoughts then nothing will!

Now I have to go, my eyes keep leaking!!

That's brilliant news. Sounds like she just used up one of her 9 lives and is back on life 2 in full health! Hopefully this means she will live to old age now. Very happy for you both.

Wolfiefan · 19/07/2019 17:52

Fantastic news.

Cherrycee · 19/07/2019 18:10

Brilliant news, you must be thrilled. I'm sure she'll have a much better prognosis now. Goes to show that every cat reacts differently where kidney problems are concerned.

Vet should be keeping an eye on her weight and diet now. If she has recovered from an acute illness, rather than having chronic kidney disease, she shouldn't need the renal food indefinitely. In fact it wouldn't do her any good long-term in those circumstances. But I'm sure the vet will be monitoring her over the next few weeks/months.

mummymayhem18 · 19/07/2019 18:23

Aww that's brilliant news. Only just came across this post and read all of the updates. I have 2 cats and know how much they can pull on your heart strings and become members of the family. I hope she keeps on the way she's been going. She's got a lovely caring owner. ❤️☺️

FriarTuck · 19/07/2019 18:38

I came across this thread at the start & got a bit Sad so I'm delighted to hear the good news!!!!
If she's still being fussy on the special food think about trying her on Kattovit Renal tins (not pouches) - I've got a cat on their urinary ones and he's mega-happy eating it but turned down all the other versions (and thinks that any of the pouches with the lumps that look like cheap reconstituted chicken nuggets without the coating are the food of the devil - I agree, they look hideous). I add a bit of water on the side of each bowlful to up his water intake.

FriarTuck · 19/07/2019 18:38

(You can get them on Zooplus)

emmac98 · 04/08/2019 00:11

How's your cat op? My mn won't load so I can't read many!? Sorry if it's already been ended but I'd love to know how she is

cricketmum84 · 08/08/2019 14:27

@emmac98 she's doing really well thank you!

Last blood tests showed normal levels for all but one kidney marker. She's got a check up and another blood test due next month just to make sure the levels are staying low.

She's eating and drinking really well and tolerating the kidney care food, she's even put some weight on and doesn't look as much like ET anymore with the skinny neck :)

That's brilliant news. So pleased for you!

Mia184 · 08/08/2019 15:41

Fantastic news! I hope the levels stay low.

mummymayhem18 · 08/08/2019 22:24
