Hand hold needed. My baby girl is in the vets after collapsing

I have a beautiful baby girl cat, she's not quite 2 yet. She has single pawedly got me through the last year or so of MH issues just be being the best and most loving cat I've ever known. I love her more than most people.

She came in about 9pm last night and was a bit quiet and off her food. Came down this morning and she went to jump on the windowsill but couldn't get up, she then collapsed and couldn't walk and was trying to crawl away from me but couldn't get up.

I rushed her to the emergency vets, by which time she could walk again but seemed really dazed and confused. Normally at the vets she is constantly trying to climb up onto me and hide but she just laid on the table with her eyes half closed.

They have kept her in for observation and tests.

Please please keep everything crossed that she is going to be ok. I really don't think I could cope with losing her.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2019 23:04

Paws crossed here. Hopefully she'll drink, now she's not got the fluids.

cherrycokex · 09/07/2019 15:58
Thanks

Well today is the day. Been awake since 4. Hopefully should get a call at some point during the morning to let us know what Ivy's bloods are doing.

Please please please let them have stabilised enough to bring her home.

Really hoping it's good news for Ivy today Flowers

AudacityOfHope · 10/07/2019 09:10

Fingers crossed. She's a sweetie, looks like a mini version of my 7 kilo boy!

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2019 09:14

Keeping everything crossed.

zombielady · 10/07/2019 12:28

Any news? Flowers

cricketmum84 · 10/07/2019 13:08

Not great news I'm afraid. Blood tests have shown the kidney markets have raised slightly since being off the fluids and she has refused her food this morning.

We are picking her up this evening and bringing her home for palliative care. Medication, lots of love and the poshest posh cat food we can buy. She can sleep on any bed she wants! Back Friday for blood tests to see how she is coping.

The vet said we could have her for days, weeks or months. There's really no way to tell as cats deal with kidney failure so differently.

Fingers crossed that she improves by being at home.

Sakura7 · 10/07/2019 15:27

I'm glad you'll be able to take her home and hopefully she'll feel more settled and will eat and drink.

Did the vet mention anything about giving fluids at home? This is normal for cats with kidney problems, it's really easy to do and it might give her a boost (unless the vet has a particular reason for not doing it). It's worth asking when you pick her up. It's not surprising her markers would be down when she's gone from consistent fluids to none at all.

PenguinsRabbits · 10/07/2019 19:49

Hope she gets better at home and starts eating. Mine loves tins of tuna in spring water with the water left in but would check with vet before giving her anything new. Our vet says its fine along with some cat nuts inbetween but maybe different with kidney condition.

cricketmum84 · 10/07/2019 20:07

They want to get her on renal food but at the moment the priority is getting her to eat. She's wolfed down two VERY expensive sachets of la perle soup and has been swishing about in her fountain! She seems her usual self so far!

I hope being home will aid her recovery and that she will outlive the predictions!

Sakura7 · 10/07/2019 20:39

Great that she's eating and settling back in nicely :)

PenguinsRabbits · 10/07/2019 20:49

Great that she's eating and seems her usual self.

ScreamingValenta · 10/07/2019 20:53

Fingers crossed for your little girl.

My 16 year old boy had renal failure and was on a drip for 4 days. He pulled through and we had two and a half more precious years together.

Hoping she continues to eat and improve. Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 10/07/2019 21:13

Neither of my two would eat at the vet. I got a call from the surgeon the day after surgery, saying Fatty needed to go home so she could have some food and a wee! Hopefully your girl just wants to be home.

ValleyoftheHorses · 10/07/2019 21:14

So glad she’s home

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/07/2019 08:56

I'm glad she's home. If she really won't eat the food (mine won't) it might be worth talking to the vet about phosphate binders that can be added to her food. My vet told me the renal diet is far better but as there was no way he was going to eat it this was the second best approach.

I'm glad she seems her normal self and fingers and paws crossed she continues to improve at home

Sakura7 · 11/07/2019 10:28

Another thing that can help with the renal food (though I know you're not there just yet) is the Purina probiotic powder. Sprinkle a little bit in and mix it around, it makes it a bit more palatable. The vet should have it.

Mine eats the royal canin no problem, even without the powder, but it took a bit of perseverance at the start.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/07/2019 12:13

Mine eats the royal canin no problem, even without the powder, but it took a bit of perseverance at the start.

Mine jumped backwards when he sniffed it! His CKD was caught very early so we decided not to try to make him eat it as he's so stubborn and persevered with the Ipakitine. He last had blood tests in December 2017 and his readings had gone back to normal ranges.

cricketmum84 · 11/07/2019 14:03

She's come home with ipakatine (the phosphorus bonding powder) that I've been putting on her food. She's eating well at the moment but not sure what will happen when we switch to the renal food.

She seems a bit wobble on her back legs though. Do you think that's normal after being in hospital for so long or could it be a bad sign?
