The litter tray

Hand hold needed. My baby girl is in the vets after collapsing

I have a beautiful baby girl cat, she's not quite 2 yet. She has single pawedly got me through the last year or so of MH issues just be being the best and most loving cat I've ever known. I love her more than most people.

She came in about 9pm last night and was a bit quiet and off her food. Came down this morning and she went to jump on the windowsill but couldn't get up, she then collapsed and couldn't walk and was trying to crawl away from me but couldn't get up.

I rushed her to the emergency vets, by which time she could walk again but seemed really dazed and confused. Normally at the vets she is constantly trying to climb up onto me and hide but she just laid on the table with her eyes half closed.

They have kept her in for observation and tests.

Please please keep everything crossed that she is going to be ok. I really don't think I could cope with losing her.

I'm so sorry OP, this is just awful. Flowers

Oh no, so sorry to read your news. Sad

Poisoning does sound likely for such a sudden onset of kidney damage. I've heard of similar with lily poisoning for example.

I wonder why the vet ruled out poisoning initially and focused on kidney disease (which is incredibly rare for such a young cat), only to change their mind today. Maybe I'm being unreasonable but I still think I'd try for a second opinion if at all possible. Flowers

The specialist vet doesn't work Monday mornings so he is going to review her notes this afternoon and give me a call for his opinion. I don't think it's worthwhile hauling her about as she is so so nervous in the vets anyway. I don't want to make her (potentially) last few days any more stressful than they already are x

Worth mentioning as well that the new specialist vet doesn't have an overnight service so it would be a case of shipping her off to a different vets if she needed overnight IV so not ideal.

Ok that's good that the specialist vet will review. Fingers crossed for her.

Oh my love. I’m so sorry.

If it was poisoning then I would be responsible for my actions.

cautiously good news from the vets!
The kidney marker has dropped overnight from 960 to 770 which while a massive improvement is still a long way from where it needs to be. Still pushing on with fluids for another 48 hours and retest. They said some cats need up to a week in hospital on fluids for their kidneys to start working better again and it has only been 4 days here.

They are cautiously optimistic that she could be home at the weekend if the levels get down to an acceptable amount.

She will still have a level of kidney injury and will need supportive food and medication and the prognosis still isn't much more than a year though. Although some of your stories about cats going on for longer is giving me extra hope.

Keep keeping those paws crossed for further reductions! And thanks for all the love and support.

I'm off for visiting hours and cuddles with my Ivy cat 😍

Poisoning could be accidental. Lillies in a garden or growing wild, or in a house she may have snuck in to. They’re the usual suspect as the pollen sticks and is ingested easily.

If it was poisoning treatment isn’t much different anyway. Lots of fluids to increase output, pain relief and ab’s.

Good news is that if it is poisoning and she’s improving, then hopefully she should continue to do so. If it’s congenital then the original cause is still there and will continue to cause damage...

My Cattymole was poisoned many years ago and they thought we were going to lose him to kidney damage.
Stubborn little bugger, he pulled through and was with us for a good 10 years after that.
The only long-term impact on him was that because the poison had ulcerated his throat he point-blank refused to wash even after it had healed, and consequently looked like Stig of the Dump. He looked a lot like your baby girl and I still miss him.

Not much of an update today. She is much the same, very bright and happy, eating and drinking well and still tolerating the drip.

Repeat bloods tomorrow so will update once we have the results.

Thanks again for all the love and support. I could honestly start to believe in the power of prayer after how many people are thinking of her and how much better she seems!
