My poor boy has been scalped!

My 2 year old long haired cat had got matted and after searching about for a cat groomer (hardly any in my area - had to travel 25 minutes to get to them) he has been and got scalped! I try to brush him but he runs away and then his undercoat is so dense you can't get a comb or brush through it.

Since coming back my other cat has been very suspicious of him and has hissed and run away from him. Do you think he will eventually accept him again as his brother?

My Persian gets matted twice a year, I brush him often but he won't tolerate for long and it quickly gets out of control.

I tried to find a cat groomer and they did the same as yours - £25 I paid for that! Afterwards I went out and bought my own clippers and now when I feel a matt I shave it straight out. Much easier on the cat and now he never has the naked look - just odd bare patches. It's not that noticeable.

Elzbells · 09/03/2019 18:18

He's a bit dopey though and quite enjoys it - I might not be quite so smug if he ripped my face off each time!

madcatladyforever · 09/03/2019 18:20

I had to get my kitty done like that every summer as he would not tolerate brushing at all. I think he loved the freedom of it.
The other cat would hiss at him for a couple of days then get over it. It never did him any harm but I'd wait until the warmer weather though.

dementedpixie · 09/03/2019 18:20

I paid £35 for his new hairstyle. Think the vet charges £60 for the clipping and then extra if they need sedated

Sorry but I'm crying with laughter, he looks like an uncooked chicken!

dementedpixie · 09/03/2019 18:36

He looks like an alien cat. Other cat still suspicious and they have been staring at each other through the cat flap

To be fair I don’t think any lion cut ever looks good😂

Perfectly fine. No way they could have done it any differently! Mats have to be clipped out completely. No way on earth they can comb then out. His comfort is the number one priority.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 09/03/2019 18:45

At least he has his tail left intact!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 09/03/2019 18:49

Bishalisha Grin I feel they should have layered his mane so the contrast isn’t so stark!

SoupDragon · 09/03/2019 18:53

Why are there so few cat groomers about?

Because the scalped cats hunt them down and kill them in revenge.

Bishalisha · 09/03/2019 18:56

@missmouse101 blunt cuts must have been all the rage then. He had a heart murmur and anorexia so always looking shocking when fresh. Oh I miss him

dementedpixie · 09/03/2019 18:57

My cat now looks incredibly skinny, so used to seeing him with loads of fluff.

Bless him!! Reminds me of the time I had to take my poodle cross for a cut..she was so matted she had to be clipped. She looked like an RSPCA dog after wards!

I have a long haired cat who hates being brushed too. She’s 3 and so far we have gotten away with it. We occasionally have to take her to the vet to have some mats clipped off around her knicker area but that’s it.

I’m so hoping it stays that way. She is a ball of fury with teeth and claws if you try to do something she doesn’t want to do

Soubriquet · 09/03/2019 19:10

This was my Eevee

The little brown bundle is the puppy we bought home.

The scalped thing is what she looked like after we had her clipped

The scruffy blonde thing is how the fur grew back

You would have thought it was two completely different dogs, but really it wasn’t

I used to have a fluffy girl, she was a very unfriendly cat and i had to have her sedated so the vet could do this, but she only did her underside as the top wasn’t matted. After that I always had a pair of scissors handy ans snipped the lugs off as i found them.

Vinorosso74 · 09/03/2019 21:27

Cats look weird bald don't they? I wonder if cats look at each other wondering WTF have you done? Or just You smell weird?
We now need the pictures from StillMedusa of Obie when he has been for his shave-that is truly something.

TheoriginalLEM · 09/03/2019 21:48

Aww he looks lovely. Thats what id call a lion cut and i think they have done a bloody good jo. Im not a cat groomer but do groom cats as part of my svn role. A matted cat is car better shaved rather than trying to detangle.

Do be aware he will meed a coat/jumper if he goes out of a night - his street cred is screwed!!Grin

dementedpixie · 09/03/2019 21:49

Dusty is still afraid of Storm and his new look. He hisses and runs out the catflap Sad.

£25?!!! The last groomer I used for Snorg was £50. Then she has to have an emergency trip to the vet for a hygiene trim as she got the squits so that was £28.
My old groomer was brilliant and came to the house. She charged £80 for both. But had 120 mile round trip to get to us. But she moved further down south so we are out of area.
I'm thinking that I could give up nursing and be a mobile cat groomer as there is definitely money to me made!

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2019 22:26

It's Medusa's Obie you are thinking of, who gets a shave.
Ps. £50 was just for a tidy up

DoraChance · 10/03/2019 06:58

I've had this done for my elderly cat a few times, she's basically stopped grooming and even with daily brushing it still gets matted. She seems to quite appreciate it now and will let me do her tummy at home with the clippers. When she's had a couple of weeks regrowth it feels like velvet.
