My poor boy has been scalped!

My 2 year old long haired cat had got matted and after searching about for a cat groomer (hardly any in my area - had to travel 25 minutes to get to them) he has been and got scalped! I try to brush him but he runs away and then his undercoat is so dense you can't get a comb or brush through it.

Since coming back my other cat has been very suspicious of him and has hissed and run away from him. Do you think he will eventually accept him again as his brother?

Why are there so few cat groomers about?

There are many reasons there are so few cat groomers about, it is a very specialist, dangerous and time-consuming job. I'm speaking as a retired dog groomer who has also groomed a few cats over the years.

It is also the reason it so expensive. Cats are completely different from dogs to groom, they bite, scratch, hiss, stress and combined with skin that is paper thin it makes them very hard indeed to work worth. A grooming salon is set up for dogs, clippers, blades, shampoo, driers etc all designed for dogs. Dogs can be groomed while other dogs are there, they are patient, with coats totally different to cats they're relatively easy. Also, dog groomers love dogs, as I did, it doesn't mean we like cats to the same extent so have no interest in working with them.

Cats don't like the smell of dogs, they take much longer to groom, they're not in the least bit patient, the groomer has to take twice the time if not longer on one cat than a dog of similar size, that is why they cost so most.

In the USA and to some small extent, the UK there are cat groomers, people who work with only cats and know how cats operate (a whole different ball game to dogs), have salons set up only for cats, do them one at a time, maybe only four cats in a day (when a dog groomer could do ten dogs) and will charge accordingly. If you find a cat groomer like this, hold on to them, treat them right (don't skip appointments, forget to turn up etc) pay them well and cherish a very special person who will love your cat, they are very special people indeed.

Oh, and by the way, your cat looks really well and your other cat will be fine in a day or two.

He looks like one of those nodding animals with the over sized heads you used to see in the back of cars 😂

Dusty still hissing at Storm and running away. Storm wants to play with him and Dusty is being very hostile. Is there anything I could do to help them reconcile? Have tried rubbing a blanket with Dusty's scent on over Storm but I think as he looks so different Dusty isn't getting close enough to smell him
