Adopting a feline friend- North London

We have decided we are going to adopt a cat! Just looking for any advice or tips regarding adopting and good rescues to adopt from.

I always had pets including cats growing up and I now feel like a furry friend is missing from my life!

We both work full time and live in a quiet road in central London. Have a large shared garden and a catflap.

Have heard good things about the Mayhew, and we are also close to Cats Protection north london. Does anyone have any exoerience with these, and are there any other good rescues around this area?

How long is it recommended that you stay at home with the cat when first adopted- or is this recommended at all?

Any tips on choosing a cat to suit our family? although I understand it's more a case of being chosen by a cat

We are keeping all our paws crossed here, that's it's life at first sight for Tiggy!

Yay!!! Grin

Vinorosso74 · 05/01/2019 16:22

Woohoo!!!! I'd love to see some photos of him at home rather than a pen at the centre Smile

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 16:40

Will post some when he's settled in!

He is an extremely confident boy! He is loving exploring Smile

Woohoo, hope he's won your DP over, Tiggy sounds lovely!

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2019 16:45

Yay! Only just found this thread but so lovely. Particularly heartwarming as the shelter I volunteer with was down to one resident before Christmas and is now almost full again. Envy

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2019 16:45

Not envy. Blasted phone. Sad

Ski37 · 05/01/2019 16:51

What a lovely ending! Tiggy sounds adorable.
I’m now torturing myself by looking on my local CP website despite the fact my cat probably wouldn’t tolerate living with another 😔

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 16:51

Yes he has definitely been won over!

Oh no Wolfie such a shame. Poor Tiggy was waiting for a home for nearly a year Sad

Great news Jolly, I'm sure lovely Tiggy will be happy with his new home and family.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/01/2019 17:17

You've made my day. Hopefully you'll ge cry happy together!

Toddlerteaplease · 05/01/2019 17:20

*be very happy

Vinorosso74 · 05/01/2019 17:38

I didn't realise he'd been in care so long! I know he was at least 2 other centres before North London.
Well thanks to you he now has a home and some human slaves.

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 19:27

He's been to 4 different centres!

Wolfed his dinner down and now surveying his new kingdom from the top of the stairs.

Thanks so much for mentioning Tiggy in your post Vino Grin

Congratulations, OP. We got our feline over lady from the North London CPL too. Here she is.

Vinorosso74, you all do an amazing job matching cats to servants. We adore her.

Lovely thread! We literally brought our own CPL girl home last week. We got a fair bit of kit from two friends that have cats.
While we were visiting her at the CPL lady's house she told us of another cat who'd gone to a home where the cat had gone missing. The day after they took the new cat home their old cat came home and did NOT approve so the second cat had to go back.

drspouse · 05/01/2019 19:46

Wolfie that's so sad. At least we've made room for some others. Is it people getting ill advised Christmas presents? Or breaking up after one grumpy Christmas too many?

Vinorosso74 · 05/01/2019 19:47

Sounds like he's settling in nicely! I'm so pleased.
Isay was your lady adopted in the last couple of years (just in case I remember her)? Sadly I don't get involved in the matchmaking between cats and humans that's all done by the staff.

ISaySteadyOn · 05/01/2019 20:14

Yes. She was called April but we changed her name when she came to us.

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2019 20:51

What a lovely thread. The cats were in quarantine but didn’t seem to be kitten age. Son and I shall administer cuddles and fuss and treats and grooming and play with cats until they go.
Thank goodness for rescues.
Thank goodness for good homes like these.

Vinorosso74 · 05/01/2019 20:53

Unfortunately I don't recall an April but some cats are there for such a short time I don't get to see them all.
She looks very sweet and I'm pleased another cat has a good home.

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 22:25

Aw lovely to hear other happy rehoming stories!

Isay your girl looks very cosy in there!

drspouse I wonder if the old cat sensed he had been replaced..!
