My beautiful Gruber died yesterday

We got a call from the vets to say he'd gone into arrest and they couldn't bring him back.
He'd gone in for an X ray as he wasn't using a leg. He also had high blood pressure and a heart murmur and kidney problems.

He was 9. I'd had him for 7 years.

He'd had a bad start in life. Abused by a child and he'd rolled in bleach. No fur on his legs. Scared of everything.

Within a month he knew I wasn't going to hurt him and so he ruled the roost. He would greet me at the door with a 'performance' (stretch forwards then backwards then flop onto the back for a belly rub)

He would tell me all about his day, direct me to his foodbowl and then shepherd me to bed.

He brought me various 'dead fings' as I clearly couldn't be left to provide for myself

He saw me through a marriage although wasn't keen on my choice. I should have listened to him

First night he met my DP he was straight on his lap, then delivered a massive dead rat straight to my DP's trainers and then pissed on him through the duvet whilst we were in bed 😂 That signed an unbreakable bond between the two of them.

Gruber was now His.
DP was Premier Slave with the preferred lap. He never brought any 'dead fings' home again.

Clearly finally I had chosen well and Gruber decided DP was capable of providing for me 😜😂 and that he (Gruber) could retire.

He had many twat moments such as sliding off the neighbours plastic conservatory roof in the wet and ending up in a bush! Falling off the fence and total inability to corner at speed on laminate.

We loved him. It's not 'home' without him.
We got to the vets within half an hour of his death and cuddled him and took a lock of his fur. We are getting a paw print done.

I'm posting this to tell my MN friends and people who understand how much a pet can be loved and how much of a hole they leave.

OP's DP here (did I get that right babe?)

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone's kind words, it's greatly appreciated and helping us cope with our loss. I'm currently half way through a night shift and I've already had 6 separate occasions of crying. I've had several pets during my life and although I've loved them all equally, losing Grubes has been the hardest loss to take.

He took a shine to me from the moment we met and have been almost inseparable since, he would follow me everywhere around the house & garden and couldn't wait to jump on my lap for fuss. I'm welling up again just typing this. He really was like my furry little brother and I miss him dearly.

I miss his prowping when he enters a room, his performances when we come home, his daft faces and mad moments, everything about him. Gruber was most definitely a member of our family and we mourn for him like we would any other member.

Finally, and most importantly of all, thank you DP for your love, strength and support. Without you I am nothing and my love for you is immeasurable.

Here's to you Gruber, Prince of Darkness™, best bud, furry little brother, rat catcher supreme. We will never forget you mate.x

@EnormousDormouse That's exactly what I called him on my last day working with him 3 months ago 😂

2018SoFarSoGreat · 23/08/2018 06:52

Well played Gruber. But slaves paying homage.

Ok people. You both made me cry and I didn't even have the pleasure of serving him.

Reminds me so much of Cairo, aka real wife. I was simply the other woman for all of her 24 years.

Dang you all,❤️

2018SoFarSoGreat · 23/08/2018 06:52

Both slaves. Not but!

BrevilleTron · 23/08/2018 06:58

I'm so touched by this. Thanks all. The furry one is up there basking in the adoration 😘

So sorry Breville. What a lovely tribute to your little Gruber. A real character and a beautiful boy. He had a lovely life with you and DP. He was very loved Flowers

I'm sure gruber will approve. Enjoy your new arrivals! X

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2018 21:48

I'm sure he will approve. Sounds like your new additions have got lucky. Black cats are the best. Adopting again is the only thing that's helped with loosing Fatty.

wtffgs2 · 27/08/2018 21:54

Sorry for your loss. He sounds like an ace cat.

Vinorosso74 · 27/08/2018 22:05

Aw lovely cats. I hope they give you as much joy as Gruber.

Want2beme · 27/08/2018 23:34

Gruber will be so happy that you've given 2 little floofs a loving homeFlowers

Looks like Bella & Lucius have been plugged inGrin

MrsPawsitive · 28/08/2018 02:37

Something got in my eyes when I read about your dear Gruber. My DH was concerned when he saw me in tears in front of the computer but I told him it's okay, Bella and Lucius have arrived and are ready to command their new cat slaves. Wishing you all the best!

SusieQ5604 · 28/08/2018 03:43

I'm so sorry for your loss. I love my pets soooo much, they are like little people to me

BrevilleTron · 28/08/2018 08:37
