Cat’s and the rain - a word of advice (light hearted!)

So, when I first adopted Dcat a year ago I was advised that cats didn’t like getting wet. Mine seemed to not have got this memo and would come in soaking wet- so when he had been out in the rain I dried him with a towel so he wouldn’t get cold.
I didn’t think too much of it when he started to find me every time he’d been out in the rain ... fair enough I thought- I wouldn’t like to sit in a wet coat after coming inside either so I would give him a ‘dry’ with his towel....no problem.
Fast forward to tonight when it has been tipping down for 12 hours. In the space of three hours stupid cat has been out to sit in the rain 6 times! Each time he comes back in he runs up to me and winds his way around my legs/ leaps on me or generally rubs his hairy wet body on me expecting to be dried, If I hide, or don’t have a towel he howls like he’s been critically injured ( and I’m too soft to ignore it)! Locking the cat flap hasn’t helped as he’s enough of a brute to force his way through it again -and when he does he just sits in the rain until he’s absolutely soaking and then comes back in looking to be dried again . I’ve created a monster and I’m not sure what to do about it now but I’m hoping my story will save others 😂😂😂😂😂

Aaw he loves a good rub with a towel! Maybe rub him with a towel when he isn't wet so he doesn't feel the need to go and sit outside quite so often!

Ski37 · 09/04/2018 22:17

He gets that too - I think I’ve been outsmarted by a cat though 😹😹😹

I'm constantly outsmarted by my two!

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2018 22:22

My big ginger mog does exactly the same. In & out of the cat flap when it's raining, yowling for a rub dry from a towel each time. It's kind of cute but gets a bit wearing after the fifth time you've towelled him dry that day. He loves being wrapped up in the towel & carried around like a big furry baby too Smile

Ski37 · 09/04/2018 22:26

I thought it was cute to start with...... if I’d known how manipulative a cat can be it may have been another story 😹😹😹

He wants his armpits tickled WinkGrin
Ollie fully expects a warmed towel after the rain

dementedpixie · 09/04/2018 22:30

Mine runs away when I come at them with a towel. They dry their soaking paws on my carpet as they scramble under the table to get away from me. They don't mind rain or snow but don't like the wind much

ShamelessEjeculate · 09/04/2018 22:33

Thsi has made me chuckle after a long hard day so thank you OP and OP's DCat

Toddlerteaplease · 09/04/2018 22:33

Sorry OP, but that is hilarious! GrinGrin

Ollivander84 · 09/04/2018 22:38

Loves his towel Hmm

Aww look at that face!

TeaandHobnobs · 09/04/2018 22:40

My DCat does the same! Followed me around winding round my legs (aka tripping me up) for a good 15 mins until I realised he wanted towelling.
He loves water. He sits on the edge of the bath when the kids are in it and just lets his tail hang in the water.

scurryfunge · 09/04/2018 22:44

Scurry cat didn't like the rain. She would ask to go out at the back door but would refuse when she saw the rain. She would then go to the front door and ask to go out because there are clearly different weather fronts occurring at a different door.

Ski37 · 09/04/2018 22:45

Ollivander84 I think that comment may have just killed me😹😹😹😹😹😹 .
I still say to him ‘ I tickle your head, I tickle your back, I tickle your face .....I tickle your armpits ......,’ he just looks at me as if WTF?
I will never stop tickling his armpits,

He is not at all ashamed or guilty about his behaviour 🙀

Mine does that too scurryfunge. With a cross yowl 'No! I want the other outside. The one with the sun'

Vinorosso74 · 09/04/2018 23:17

All these pampered cats! They have us wrapped around their paws.
Our old girl liked the hairdryer if she'd got wet-not high speed but lower speed and obviously warm setting.

Itscolderoutside · 09/04/2018 23:25

Ha - mine also runs to the back door if it's raining at the front door. Would love to know why as she's usually spent the previous half hour sitting on the windowsill watching the rain anyway!

BlueEyedBengal · 09/04/2018 23:27

I have a Bengal blue eyed snow marble and I have had him 9 yrs he loves water. He will drag his water bowl around like a booby trap so you don't know where it is until you collide with it and you will find him playing in the shower when it's still wet and if spotted his paw prints around the seat on the toilet if you leave a tap dripping he is transfixed don't know about rain as he is an indoor cat.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 09/04/2018 23:28

I think I'd prefer that to ours going out, finding it's raining then piling back in yowling at top volume about the fact it's raining and giving me filthy looks because clearly I'm responsible for the weather, then going out again on the off chance it's stopped, only to come in and howl at me to make it stop. I cannot tell you how many times today I have said "I cannot make the rain stop you idiot" Grin

Itscolderoutside · 09/04/2018 23:30

And when we open the door to let her back in from the rain afterwards, we get a cross mew as she trots over the doorstep. Definitely not a thank you, more of a grumpy 'about time too'. No way am I adding a towel down into to the mix, I'd get no rest.

Ski37 · 14/04/2018 21:08

Mine is indefinitely grounded after I spent 2 days ( and most of a wedding party] looking for him !

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/04/2018 12:27

ZOMG! Naughty, naughty kitty! Where did you find him?

wanderings · 15/04/2018 12:36

With my cats, their fur is always lovely and soft after it's been rained on (when it's dry again, that is).
