Harry's Results

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/02/2018 16:13

I've just had the results of Harry's blood test for his heart and it's not good. His proBNP level is 344 and anything over 270 is classed as serious heart disease. I'm sitting at my desk at work in tears as I don't know what to do. As far as I can see I've got three options:

  1. Get a second opinion
  2. Have him referred for tests to see how serious it is and decide on treatment
  3. Leave him be.

Please don't flame me but I'm leaning towards option 3. He's 13 years old, has been through more sedations, tests and operations than I care to remember over the last two years and is absolutely find in himself. He's eating, drinking and playing, doesn't get out of breath and, if he hasn't got long, I want him to be happy in that time, not in and out of vets all the time.

I had to laugh at that last photo. He has got to be the most self satisfied looking cat ever. He gives my teenagehood cat, Pepper a run for his money in looking regal! He totally has you under the paw and he knows it.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/02/2018 23:02

Smug, that is the word I was looking for!

cozietoesie · 22/02/2018 23:36

I would have said .......magisterial. (OK - I'm used to cats who try to put you under the paw. Grin)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/02/2018 08:46

I agree cozie. I am well and truly under the paw and he knows it.

Seniorboy was an inspiration!

Toddler, I dreamt that Fatty and Snorg came to visit Harry! You said you'd send them by FedEx and they could stay with him for a few days. (I do worry about my dreams sometimes!)

Harry is such a gorgeously handsome boy.I do feel for you Pink, we love them so.
Our mahoosive Norwegian Forest boy kittencat (just two) had a scan for gut issues. He didn't need sedation and though the scanner vet nurse was a bit concerned when she saw who she was scanning that day, she said he just lay down and snoozled, having his head tickled by her assistant whilst she scanned him. Like you, I wanted to be in with him but they know best (I accept he might have been less compliant if we were there) Of course, with an x ray they won't let you be in for safety reasons, but I thought our scan experience might help. I am sure if you have a word in his furry little shell like, he'll be a good lad.
It's a hard time for you. I really hope you get good news. Thinking of you and your Harryboy.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2018 15:20

Ha ha that's hilarious!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/02/2018 16:57

I don't think I could cope with the three of them, I'd be wondering which one was going to injure his or herself next!

@Threetoedsloth (I love your name!) I'm hoping he listens to me and behaves himself when he has the x ray and doesn't need sedating. I think DH will stay with him if he has a scan as he's calmer than me. Thanks for sharing about the scan, it's good to hear about other peoples' experiences.

I'm not too bad thanks, still watching his Lordship like a hawk (when he's not under the table next to the radiator but trying not to stress about him. We thought about bringing his x ray forward but decided to leave it for 6th March so he can be fussed over by the nurses!

I'm supposed to be on a diet, 'suggested' by the doctor but it's been such a crap week that I went out last night and stuffed myself with an amazing curry! They exchanged on Mum's house yesterday so I think I needed to go out - not that I really need an excuse!

How's the lovely Tom, is he behaving himself?

How is your Mum's ex boy doing in his new place, Pink? Smile

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/02/2018 17:18

Thanks, it's been pretty bad since early last year as Mum had depression, then I was told she had heart failure (I never told her as she always said she didn't want to know if she had anything terminal) and while that was going on we were told Harry had kidney disease. I'd like some good news and then a bit of a break if possible!

The problem is I want another one! Never mind, I'm sure grilled chicken and new potatoes will be just as nice...

That's grim! Thankfully Harry hasn't done that to me, although I haven't forgiven him for chasing a huge spider towards me when I was sitting on the loo! I shooed Harry out and ran out, shutting the bathroom door behind me (of course the spider couldn't get under the door could it?!) only to find a three legged frog bleeding out on the hall floor! I ended up phoning DH and telling him I was being persecuted by the cat and could he rescue me!

Harry seems no different in himself and actually hasn't coughed as much. He's eating, drinking, running around and being his normal self. I'm just hoping the locum vet appreciates exactly who they are looking after that day! The earliest we could get an appointment with the regular vet was 13th March and as that's my birthday I decided to take a chance with the locum! I can't face bad news on my birthday!

Your spirits will pick up once the house is sold and gawn. Smile

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/02/2018 17:32

You're right cozie, I just want it finished now. DH did jokingly say why don't we just transfer the proceeds to the vet!

(BTW apologies for the amount of exclamation marks in my last post Blush)

He sounds as if he's feeling fine. Smile

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/02/2018 19:18

He's never had a lot of energy Dances, he's always been a lazy bugger!

I can be a bit of an Eeyore when it comes to Harry as I always think the worst. I was convinced he was going to die when he broke his jaw as the vet was concerned he had bone cancer and I said my goodbyes then. ( It didn't help that MIL told me I was told keeping him alive 'in that state'!) No doubt I'll be doing the same thing when he goes on 6th March.

I'm very worried about his teeth as apparently they are quite bad and I know another bone infection could be it for him. The vet won't sedate him because of his heart so I've no idea where we go from here.

I wouldn't admit this anywhere else but I often tell him he's more handsome today than he was yesterday but not as handsome as he's going to be tomorrow!

Tom is gorgeous!

cozie, I think he is feeling fine, it's me that's felt ill all week! It's probably a good job I never had children, I don't think I could cope with the stress...

I sat in the waiting room sobbing when they did the blood test for his heart. I'm needle phobic anyway so I can't stay with him but I was so worried about his heart. Luckily there wasn't anyone else waiting!

His teeth don't seem to be bothering him, he still prefers his biscuits to wet food. I've tried various food and we appear to have settled for Country Hunter chicken and goose for breakfast and dinner, JW turkey biscuits for lunch and JW fish biscuits during the night. In that order. With no changes.

I don't know what they will do about his teeth or even if they really are that bad as it's only just over a year since his last dental. I think they want to find out how bad his heart is and take it from there.

Here he is enjoying a chin rub. He’s now attempting to dislodge me from the recliner!

There is a sofa over there, mum. Go and sit on it, get out of MY chair.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/03/2018 18:53

Can you lovely people please talk some sense into me? I’m already starting to panic about Harry’s x ray on Tuesday. Im convinced they’re going to have to sedate him and he won’t come round. The vet told me he couldn’t be sedated for his teeth but he might have light sedation for the x ray. Surely that won’t be good for him.

I know we need to know what we’re dealing with but I’m scared I’m doing the wrong thing. How do I calm down? I love him so much.

You trust his vet don't you? She knows all his issues. Smile
