Just that really, noticed today he's not right and is now feeling very sorry for himself.
He's got plenty water Andover increased his wet food to get his water up. He's been sick so changing to little and often food.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime?
He is currently under the bed. Poor soul.

I've not bathed him yet, there is no sign of the cuddly cat that came home last night he's back to his normal self Grin not sure I fancy my chances ! He's gone for a check up so if he gets the all clear I'll give it a go.
So far so good on pee watch , this may be it! I will add water to his food and see how we get on, also got to get him to accept the new food but one step at a time.

That came home last week. Although I think that's a good thing.

How's he going? And do you have a piccy?

user1486241726 · 01/02/2018 15:26

Have had all my fingers crossed for you OP.
My cat never used to drink very much - he’s been on solely wet food since all his issues. We’ve recently introduced a very small portion of dry food to help with his teeth and he’s started drinking more - perhaps before he was getting all the water he needed from the wet food.

What special food have they recommended you put him on? Do let us know how he is Flowers

BertrandRussell · 01/02/2018 15:32

I had a cat that suffered after a fractured pelvis. The vet recommended sardines in oil. Worked really well, but she was reluctant ever to eat anything else!

Hecksonaplane · 01/02/2018 17:48

He’s great thanks, lovely to have him back to normal.

The food recommended is hills cd feline but only had it once and he would not even smell it so we’ve stuck to his usual wet food until he’s had his meds and settled back in.

The insurance company are declining to pay at the moment so we are appealing bloody feckers!!!

But here he is

So pleased he's on the road to recovery. Why are the insurance company trying to get out of paying?
My cat is on day 3 at the vets with a blocked bladder. We have insurance but I know the bill will be huge.

Hecksonaplane · 01/02/2018 21:23

We had just got him from the shelter and he started peeing out the box. Never having had cats but knowing they could suffer this I took him for a check up. They did nothing said it was from moving Home. They were right within a day he started back in his box. Nothing since only been for check ups.
We got the insurance 8 months later in feb 2017 and had no claims but they have said that trip in May when we got him is related.
I have called them regularly to ask if treatment could go ahead and told them about that visit they have even asked where to pay the cash but have now decided not to pay!!

Sorry meant to add, hope your cat is sorted and home soon.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 01/02/2018 22:23

That's appalling re the insurance. I do hope they pay up. It looks very much like they are searching for an 'out'.

Hecksonaplane · 01/02/2018 22:45

I'm not impressed at all. Either way not sure where it will leave me for renewal now he's had this it's likely to shoot up and I can't trust these now.

Rudgie47 · 02/02/2018 18:19

Hes lovely, I'm glad hes on the mend.
If the insurance refuse to pay out I'd take it to the Ombudsman and threaten to name and shame them on social media.

Manupprincess · 02/02/2018 21:41

Crikey, you pay so much for insurance because of exactly these situations. I agree with name and shame on social media- sad cat picture included 😀
Hope yours is doing well now. We've been back and forth but cat at home, smacked out of his tiny mind on drugs.

Hecksonaplane · 03/02/2018 13:49

I’m glad yours is on the mend Man that is good.
I won’t be letting the insurance go but unfortunately it’s not good news.

He’s back in the vets today for three days with a catheter as it’s blocked again, they’ve basically said so many blockages in such a short space of time is not good and he’ll spend more time at the vets than at home.
We are heartbroken he is a beautiful cat with a lovely personality and healthy otherwise it seems so wrong but we have to try this time and see what happens and if we end up back then it’s decision time.
We only lost our dog in August and that still brings me to tears so gutted.

Oh Hecks I'm so, so sorry.

I do wish you all the best Flowers.

NoMoreUsernames · 03/02/2018 14:15

Sorry to hear your boy's not well again OP. Your vet should be happy to write a letter to your insurance company on your behalf. Sounds like the initial visit was inappropriate elimination due to stress, he now has a blocked bladder, completely different, and as there's a huge time lapse between the incidents I think it's safe to say they are unrelated. Chancers.

Hecksonaplane · 03/02/2018 14:26

Thank you both.

The vet has done an email but I wish I had waited as I now feel if this was the cause or the start whAt did the vet put in their notes as opposed to what they told me. What have the insurance seized on?
My thought is if it was something like this and they had told me I would have declared it when I took out the insurance so would have been covered.
On the other hand it could be what you suggest Nomore which I inclined to believe but I now have to wait and see if the email changes things and at the moment I don't want to take the vet on until we're sorted. They are already not my favorite people but that's another thread!

The vets have called and there was a lot of urine in his bladder so it was correct to catheter him again, just waiting on samples coming back but bloods were clear.

Rudgie47 · 03/02/2018 20:17

I'm sorry to hear your cats still poorly, it must be really stressfull for you.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 00:39

Hecks - I was going to suggest this anyway, but then I saw your last post - have you considered another vet for a second opinion? Your boy seems so well otherwise and there has been something about all this (the nick in his urethra started me thinking it) that does not sit well with me.

Hecksonaplane · 04/02/2018 18:39

Yet that has been a consideration but he's in for a week at the moment so my hands are tied for the moment.

They are talking next steps would be a big op to basically make him wee like a female but the odds of it really working are in my opinion not worth the risk and money especially if the insurance won't pay, it won't stop him getting cystitis or stones in his bladder.

Been to see him tonight, poor soul is bound tight as he removed his drip and his catheter last night and would not play ball apparently being v grumpy. Not surprising really.
He cheered up when we went in and they did say how easy going he is and usually lets them do anything including injections and tablets which whilst lovely makes my heart ache for him as he's so trusting.

I did grill them on what was in their notes that makes the insurance feel it's all related, they have written to the insurance company to say this is not stress etc I think I did make notes but don't have them and I am still to speak to vet about this as they were busy but the vet that saw him back in 2016 and has treated him this time wrote the email so until I speak to the insurance company not sure where this at. Next step would be ombudsmen.

Haven’t read the whole thread but just scanned your last post - we had to have the ‘female’ operation on our 1 year old cat. He had FLUTD and kept getting blocked. The operation was a complete success, he recovered quickly and lived another 12 years without any more bladder issues bar one episode of cystitis that was quickly sorted with antibiotics.

Hecksonaplane · 07/02/2018 18:56

THanks Mims that’s good to hear.
He’s finally home again tonight so fingers crossed this is it and we don’t have any decisions to make.
No news on the insurance but im not expecting a favourable result.

Sending positive thoughts to your cat.

user1486241726 · 09/02/2018 13:39

Hi OP. So sorry to read your recent updates. How has he been since you got him home?

Hecksonaplane · 09/02/2018 23:52

Hi thanks for thinking of him.

Had a bit of a scare this morning as noticed he’d been in his tray and not done anything a couple of times but then a good wee!! Followed by two more today at good intervals and no false visits so shhh 🤫 lol fingers crossed I’m not it’s counting my chicken!
I spoke to insurance this morning whilst wondering when I should take cat in, during the scare and I ended up crying down the phone Blush They they’d not had the email from the vet and there was nothing enough to over turn the ruling.
I asked what was I supposed to do as it looked like he had to go back and it was last resort of the big op which if they were not paying I coulda not afford so wasn’t I supposed to I have have him pts?
I said I wasn’t happy with the service as I hadn’t sort advice before going ahead.
They eventually got the email from the vet ND Said it’s not enough they need medical evidence and reasoning why the two visits are not related. The vets said this was unusual so they will ring the insurance on Monday. So here’s hoping
