Help please stray at my door

Oh god I came home from work and there is a stray at my front door. DH informed me it's been here for hours crying and scratching at the door. It has even let itself in when a delivery came.

It has no collar and a bit underweight.

I have 3 DC and a dog

Tried the rspca but closed.

I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Will get hubby to take a pic for FB but I doubt it will be claimed with no collar?

I can't listen to it crying all night but also DH is off to work soon and I am alone with the DC and dog.

Any advice appreciated!!

I think she's an abandoned pet, she's too friendly to be feral so maybe she was born in a house & turfed out when they couldn't sell her or she lost her cute kitten looks.

She obviously knows human=food/shelter.

It's been freezing here overnight so she's a lucky girl to survive low temperatures with so little flesh on her bones.

Buy her a zoom groom brush for Christmas, cats love them, she looks like she's lived with you all forever, lucky girl.

Such a lovely update! Your DH is definitely a keeper!

MonumentalAlabaster · 06/12/2017 14:54

How about the name Perdita which means lost?

shuggas · 06/12/2017 16:13

Thanks for the tips guys, quite hectic here at the moment so a quick update- DH in recovery now and ok Smile We suspect the same fluffy, I dread to think what she has been through!and DH gave her a bath in the morning before her pm flea treatment so all ok there, vet advised it. Poor thing has stains from the fleas. She is 2kg at the moment poor mite but eating and drinking ok and has been wormed too x

One of ours was called kitty. She was a kitten who escaped drowning, got sold, got dumped with a collar slowly strangling her.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2017 16:25

Cat is good thanks, she had another bath today and shared the bed with the dog in front of the fire to warm up. Her eating has been insane but today she has eased off a lot. We got her kitten food as it is more likely to help her put on weight apparently.. she has a scratch post now and a proper litter tray haha and seems to like it. She is sleeping a lot, and doesn't seem interested in play at all but it is early days and she must feel weak still, god knows how long she was out there for. 😐

She has no inclination to leave the house, we leave the back door open while we let the dog out and she stays firmly in the house.

The kids absolutely adore her, she gets lots of strokes and cuddles Grin

Neither of our rescues knew how to play, they learnt eventually. I imagine she wants to stay in incase you don't let her back in again.

Hopefully she'll start to gain weight.

shuggas · 09/12/2017 20:14

Most likely, to be fair. We will keep trying with play, I have no found myself watching funny cat videos on Facebook that I would normally skim past.. I do believe I am becoming a cat person Grin

Grin

They are great little animals, so full of personality & so good natured.

shuggas · 09/12/2017 20:21

This one is sooo lurvely. The vet commented she had never seen a cat like her before, such great temperament and I have to say she is great with my nearly 2 year old- very forgiving Halo

I had a cat that had no shame. He prayed on people like you, he'd just walk in their house and eat other cats or dogs food! He'd always lose collars and I picked him up several times from local vets coz people thought he was a stray.... He was just very old and fought his patch well till he was 20

shhhfastasleep · 09/12/2017 20:28

Look up Jackson Galaxy on YouTube- US cat behaviourist with loads of tips.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2017 20:29

I think mine eats others food, he's cereal free but gets a bad tummy every so often from cereals.

Nothing tastes better than another cats whiskas. He has gourmet at home Hmm

shuggas · 09/12/2017 20:32

Oh I have no doubt there a cats that do try their luck but this lass is a babe and was half her weight and riddled with fleas, no chip either, absolutely no chance she was trying her luck, she was desperate and even looking at her now she absolutely would have died if we didn't intervene x

Well it beats going outside. I wouldn't want to go outside to go to the loo in this weather either.

At least the dogs a quick learner.

Our cats trained that in extremis it is ok to wee in the bath. Beats the carpet. He didn't want to go in his tray for some reason Confused
