Help please stray at my door

shuggas · 04/12/2017 17:35

Oh god I came home from work and there is a stray at my front door. DH informed me it's been here for hours crying and scratching at the door. It has even let itself in when a delivery came.

It has no collar and a bit underweight.

I have 3 DC and a dog

Tried the rspca but closed.

I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Will get hubby to take a pic for FB but I doubt it will be claimed with no collar?

I can't listen to it crying all night but also DH is off to work soon and I am alone with the DC and dog.

Any advice appreciated!!

Thanks guys, first step is chip test tomorrow. It's got a hot water bottle and food water etc and seems grateful although my dog is following me about and standing at the outhouse door wondering why all the fuss and why am I not being fed again because you had my food in your hand !
Already done a couple of posts and searches and will go from there- or rather hubby will. I will have to think up something nice for him for his return from work to soften him up Grin

You'll need a proper cat carrier for transport, they shred through cardboard boxes like a hot knife through butter.

Buy one in pets at home & take it back a week later. Wipe clean Wink

retirednow · 04/12/2017 20:29

do you have a dog carrier you can take it to the vet in?

shuggas · 04/12/2017 20:35

No dog carrier but great tip fluffy I like you're thinking Wink

You're very kind. I bet your little visitor is so relieved to be off the streets.

Vinorosso74 · 04/12/2017 21:16

Vets sometimes have carriers you can borrow. Keep us posted!

MonumentalAlabaster · 04/12/2017 21:23

If you are in the south east there is also Wood Green the Animals Charity - they are fantastic.

thecatneuterer · 04/12/2017 21:23

Unless you have a proper cat/dog carrier don't even consider taking the cat anywhere. You must have a neighbour with a cat who you can borrow one from. Failing that they cost about £10.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 04/12/2017 21:35

If you have a cats protection nearby they may pick the cat up for you, I know our local one does and have scanners too so can check for chips.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 04/12/2017 21:36

Cats protection will normally come out and collect it (with a carrier) especially if under weight and smelly.

I volunteer for them but the area my district covers are very limited

overnightangel · 05/12/2017 03:58

Please keep us posted @shuggas , very kind and lovely of you to look after the poor little thing Smile

bayseyan · 05/12/2017 04:07

Congratulations on your new cat.

bayseyan · 05/12/2017 04:08

(They choose people, you know. That's how I got 6).

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/12/2017 10:52

How is puss? She must be pretty desperate to rush into a house like that.

shuggas · 05/12/2017 19:19

Sorry for the delay in update, it's been a long day and not long Home from work. So it's a she, and she has been to the vets. No chip unfortunately. They booked her in for a check up this afternoon and said because she is a stray and it's so close to Christmas they did it for free. She has fleas so they gave her a treatment, she is underweight and temperature a bit low.

What was lovely was when I got up this morning I found hubby on the sofa bed downstairs in the dining room with cat in there with him. He was worried she would be too cold so brought her in - a softy really Grin

As no chip and in such a bad way he got her some cat food and has accepted cat will be ours

She seems ok with pooch and visa Versa so it looks like we have a new addition to the family!!

He even gave her a bath earlier Grin

So pleased for you and your new cat! Do post a picture when you can!

HemanOrSheRa · 05/12/2017 19:29

Hee Hee! How lovely! Soppy old DH Grin. Now you have to choose a name! Smile

Hurleygirl123 · 05/12/2017 19:29

Such a nice thing to do! They do choose people...Although our rotund feline spreads himself between our house and the nice neighbours who actually find him sleeping under their duvet/ front of fire..he grudgingly allowed them to get a kitten, now good friends Grin

overnightangel · 05/12/2017 19:34

Congratulations, lovely early Christmas present!
Sounds like she’s landed on her feet, good on your husband as well!

You’ll have to put some pictures up and keep us posted on a name! 🙂

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/12/2017 19:50

They are softys underneath it all.

Can you get her spayed soon?.

She needs to be in overnight for safety. If you keep her in for a month it makes her less likely to get lost.

Fellia · 05/12/2017 20:17

Aw well done OP! Happy for you and your new pet!

TheLongRider · 05/12/2017 20:20

Good luck with your husband's operation tomorrow. Cats are very good at choosing their person and they can be just as loyal as dogs. You'll probably be the one to do everything for the cat but she might only have eyes for your DH!

HemanOrSheRa · 05/12/2017 20:22

They are softys underneath it all. I guess you mean DH/DP's Fluffy?Grin.

My DP just shouted at me 'GO AND GET THE CAT' When I was stressing about an abandoned cat at work. So of course I felt it was perfectly ok to just bring the next waif home Grin. He just grunted 'Oh, we have a kitten'. Yes. Yes we do Grin.

Pics are obligatory, by the way

HemanOrSheRa · 05/12/2017 20:34

That is very true TheLongRider. . Furry traitors. I have PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF of my girl cat being a traitor. She is in a local rescue charity calendar - They chose the photo of her LOOKING CUTE SAT ON DP'S CHEST! Gah!
