It's over two years since we lost our much-loved 17 year old rescue cat and we now feel ready to adopt again.

The shelter has suggested this young lady, who is only a year old but had already had a litter before they took her in. She has been vaccinated, microchipped, neutered etc. and is ready for rehoming.

We have all (DH, me, four older children) visited her and spent time with her, and we are all quite taken with her.

We're not certain we like her name. It's OK, but not something we would have chosen. It is OK to rename a young cat? If so, at what point would we do this? We have an appointment tomorrow to put her on full reserve and start the paperwork.

If it's acceptable to rename her, we're open to name suggestions...

Oh she's a beauty!

What is her name now? If she responds to it already then maybe a close sounding alternative?

Flumplet · 25/11/2017 17:03

Her eyes though!! 😍

ScreamingValenta · 25/11/2017 17:03

I can't see your photo Sad.

I renamed my last rescue cat - she didn't really seem 'attached' to her old name (no response when I used it) so I just started addressing her by the new name when I brought her home - I used treats to train her to come when called and she quickly picked it up.

ScreamingValenta · 25/11/2017 17:04

Ah, I can see it in your second post - she's wonderful! What a marvellous intelligent expression she's got, and beautiful green eyes.

Thursdayis · 25/11/2017 17:04

Those eyes!!! 💕💕💕

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/11/2017 17:05

In the past we have always gone for the sort of names a human might have.

Her personality is affectionate, playful but also quite laid-back.

Maisy, daisy, Sally, molly, polly, lady
Would probably go for something with the y sound at the end so it's similar to what she knows

Gatekeeper · 25/11/2017 17:16

ohh, she is so pretty; her eyes are wonderful

How about Suki, Sadie, Poppy, Polly, Taggie, Susie

Battleax · 25/11/2017 17:16

Whisky rhymes but she looks more "wise woman" and ethereal than that really.

ScreamingValenta · 25/11/2017 17:17

Billie?

Battleax · 25/11/2017 17:17

I'd probably call her Witchy, but I'm a bit eccentric Grin

I think she's a prue

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 25/11/2017 17:26

She's gorgeous
How attached to her name is she,
I think she looks like a piper myself
But if she's well set in the name she got now I'd be inclined to go for something similar sounding
The m & t in misty are the biggest sounding letters I think.....
So mitsy is the closet your going to get
Maybe...
Missy
Molly
Maggie
Maddie

PunkrockerGirl59 · 25/11/2017 17:27

She's beautiful! We renamed our little rescue cat who was about a year old when we got him and he didn't seem at all bothered.

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 25/11/2017 17:27

Oh maybe jade with them eyes Smile

KnockMeDown · 25/11/2017 17:32

As soon as I saw the photo I thought Misty!

Allergictoironing · 25/11/2017 18:58

Doesn't really matter what her "official" name is, she will soon get used to being called "precious", "princess", best kitty in the world", "mama's baby" (or Dada's ofc), or some similar slightly saccharine term of endearment. Or "pest", "creature", "oi you", if she behaves like my friend's cat Grin.

EachandEveryone · 25/11/2017 19:00

She suits Misty

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/11/2017 19:21

Thank you, Maisy and Missy now on the shortlist.

The children like Missy because it's a strong, intelligent character in Dr Who.
