It's over two years since we lost our much-loved 17 year old rescue cat and we now feel ready to adopt again.

The shelter has suggested this young lady, who is only a year old but had already had a litter before they took her in. She has been vaccinated, microchipped, neutered etc. and is ready for rehoming.

We have all (DH, me, four older children) visited her and spent time with her, and we are all quite taken with her.

We're not certain we like her name. It's OK, but not something we would have chosen. It is OK to rename a young cat? If so, at what point would we do this? We have an appointment tomorrow to put her on full reserve and start the paperwork.

If it's acceptable to rename her, we're open to name suggestions...

Mary. Because she has a little beard.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/11/2017 00:26

Wow, those eyes!! Misty seems a bit tame for such an unusually coloured beast.

We've signed the paperwork today and hope to bring She Of The Amazing Green Eyes, (name tbc) home in a couple of weeks.

I last settled a newly adopted cat nearly twenty years ago, so I may be asking you lovely people for advice.

What a beautiful cat!

TheSecondOfHerName · 28/11/2017 17:40

Visited her again today; she sat on my lap for most of the visit. 😊

She's got her second vaccination and post-op check next week and then will hopefully be signed off by the vet as ready to come home.

Esmeralda. Esme for short.

Her eyes are amazing!

OliviaStabler · 28/11/2017 23:17

Beautiful cat 😻

girlandboy · 28/11/2017 23:22

She's lovely!!

Just as an aside, we got a rescue in March going by the name of Smudge. We renamed her Luna which is nothing like her old name but she quickly responded to her new name. And she's 5 years old.

Mrsknackered · 28/11/2017 23:24

I think she's a Myrtle!

TheSecondOfHerName · 28/11/2017 23:45

The six of us have finally managed to reach a consensus and she'll be called Missy. It does suit her in real life.

I'm now amusing myself by deciding what it could be short for.
Mistletoe?
Artemis?
Smile

I have a feeling Missy might turn out to be short for 'Mistress of the house'.

She is semi-long haired, with a bushy tail. I'm wondering if she has some Turkish Van genes.

I don’t know but she is adorable you must be so excited

ladyratterley · 02/12/2017 19:46

Oh she’s so gorgeous! Congrats on the new addition to the family.

dementedma · 02/12/2017 19:49

Our rescue cat was called Elf. He is now called General Jericho Jones!!!

TheSecondOfHerName · 02/12/2017 20:20

She has her second vaccination and final vet check on Monday, so hopefully will be coming home soon.

I have been visiting her every 2-3 days, and in between times have been occupying myself by buying everything she might possibly need, along with some stuff she'll probably never play with or use. 😆
