The litter tray

How on earth did you name your cat?

Ours is brown. I'm really struggling to name her. She came from a rescue, but as it was a litter, they all had really silly names! Hers is Cello... Seems very masculine Grin she doesn't know her name. She is so little.

Mine is a rescue so I stuck with her name - she is used to it, comes when I call etc. But she has amassed a load of nicknames from Her Ladyship to Baby Girl.

Chestnut? Chessie for short?

I find names attach to them, according to what happens. A stray I took in had three kittens. One was very long coated- fluffy. One was injured and had to be treated very carefully- china. If I remember correctly the other was just black so was called sooty.
I had a tinkerbell as a child, because of the little bell on her collar.

She may have claws like Needles? She may be a-Dora-ble. Truly scrumptious?

You get the idea!

Does she bounce about like a bouncy ball? India!
Rusty
Sprite- if she is elusive and fast moving.

This little lady was named after a MN post. She is called Isla Man Baxter.... She is a three legged ginger girl and the name came about because the Isle Of Man flag has three legs on it....

How on earth did you name your cat?

When we got a rescue cat my kids went through the book 'mrs mctat and her houseful of cats' looking at the names - there's one for each letter of the alphabet.
She's called Jezebel - all black, green eyes, proper witch's cat

Leroy was named by the lady who rescued him and we didn’t change it because he responded to it.

Only now he’s only referred to as Leroy and told off as Leroy, the rest of the time he’s RoRoBerry. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Whatever you officially name her, you’ll rarely call her that!

Echoing the above reply - you will name her, and the majority of the time call her something different.

Jem - JimJim
Scout - Pants / Scooter
Paddy - Mr. Piddles / Smids

Ours have all been named after famous cyclists. Eddy, Beryl, Wiggo.

Our old vet had s good sense of humour. We couldn't decide whether the register the cat with DH's or my surname. So he became Eddy Gray-Catt. (Neither DH or I are called Gray or Catt, but the cat was grey).

Magic & Maia. Were the names they came with. I wanted to call them Zomorph and Fentanyl but my colleagues told me that was cruel. I decided that as they were five, they already knew their names so stuck with Magic and Maia. Found out a couple of months ago, that it was the rescue that had named them. As the kitten farm type place they came from hadn’t named them. 😰 My sister nicknamed them Fattycat and Snorgmaiden and it stuck!

If she's Cello now, I'd probably change to Viola. Grin

We pretended we were going to name ours the same name as FIL. It really wound him up so we decided to do it for real Grin
FIL still refuses to call cat by his name Grin

Lweji Grin Viola!!
BikeRunSki my sister does similar but surnames, and has branched out into Athletics. I must say Wiggins (RIP) is the best name for a cat... I have struggled a little to take Sir Bradley seriously in the 10 yrs since the cat was named!!

Our Siamese are generally called by the same name. (They’re always singletons.) What can I say ? It’s a family thing.

I like proper names for my cats. (My cat has her own surname and everything which the receptionist at the vets thinks is hilarious)
If I had a beautiful brown cat I'd name her Lady Cordelia Fitzgerald (or delia for short), it's who Anne of Green gables pretends to be when she imagines she has beautiful dark brown hair instead of red hair. You then need to get a second, ginger kitten and name it Anne Shirley for the full effect. Grin

Disclaimer: I may be a bit mad.

Smoky came to me as Smoky and only answered to that. Bluebell has her name as she came to me when the Bluebells were out but her name has been shortened to Buns for some reason, BunBuns or Bunny.

She's beautiful.

I was living with someone when I brought the big one home and I really wanted a Prince related name Cynthia or Applonia both got vetoed. Then I was going through my planner and there were 20 episodes of Frasier on it and then it came to
Me, she would be Daphne moon. The baby last year again I wanted Dot but she had no Dots on her then she was Delores after a Paul Simon song which quickly became Dolly and I love abit of Dolly P anyway. She answered to it straight away.

Yours looks like a Betty or Hazel or Esme.
