Cat drinking my juice out of my glass!

Does anyone else have a cat that does this? I noticed him doing it during the night with my drink on my bedside table (apple and pear robinsons) but now he tries to do it any time with most drinks if I have them in a glass! I have resorted to drinking out of water bottles as I am sure its not good for him to drink these things.
He has also suffered before with crystals in his bladder and and now has specialist food to try and prevent it from happening again.

Just wondered if any of your cats have similar habits?!

Yup.

Three of my cats do this. And my house rabbit.

I suspect 80% of my beverages have been infiltrated with animal spit.

antimatter · 25/06/2017 17:22

they like to have water left to them higher than the floor level

I once had a cat that would make a beeline for any glass of water I was drinking from, even though he had plentiful fresh supply of his own. He only started doing it in his later years, but once he discovered it there was no stopping him. He also had severe cystitis when younger, to the tune of £1000's and special diet. I think they just need to drink a lot ?

Not sure about the fruit juices, never had a cat express any interest in them.

King as I am pregnant I can't really take the chance of continuing to drink out of a glass that he may have stuck his head in! Aside from this it wouldn't really bother me as long as he wasn't getting ill!

Anti thank you for this I will give it a try. He has two water bowls (dog size) 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs and I have seen him drinking out of the one in my bedroom. He also loves to drink out of my kitchen tap which constantly drips :)

I put an Ikea kids plastic bowl over my glass of water to stop the cat drinking it at night. During the day he's quite shameless in trying to drink from anything sitting around rather than his own bowl.

Yes mine have their own cup in my bedroom. I put it next to the radiator to add some moisture to the air. I don't mind as it means they drink good amounts. Fatty likes the dregs of my (decaf) tea. My freinds cat's have a glass of water on the secretary's desk as they just drink her drinks if they don't!

Love the pictures. I just happened to notice the owl cup. Can I ask where you got it from as dd had one gifted to her which I broke and would like to replace Shock

DontCallMeBaby · 25/06/2017 17:51

My bedside glass of water is never more than half full because of the cats - they'll occasionally jam their heads in and have a go, but they can't reach. They have a shared plastic beaker in the bathroom, conventional bowls downstairs, and a pond.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 25/06/2017 17:54

Owl mugs are from Tesco but I've had them years.

RubbishMantra · 25/06/2017 17:56

I've had to buy one of those wanky mason jars with a hole in the lid for a straw to stop the sharing. I wouldn't mind, but when Little M's finished, he swishes a paw around in it, then nudges it onto the floor.

MCat used to love coffee, I don't drink it anymore though. Much joy whenever I bought a whipped cream topped frappiccino home.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/06/2017 18:24

Thanks Joffrey. My cat has also tried drinking water from the glass on my bedside table. I was a bit wtf?!Hmm

caffeinestream · 25/06/2017 18:38

My old cat used to drink coffee Hmm

Toddlerteaplease · 25/06/2017 18:48

Little M is completely innocent of all charges. He said you just can't remember knocking it off yourself.

ProfYaffle · 25/06/2017 18:51

I've resorted to using those mason jar drinking glasses with a screw top lid and straw as our cat is never content to drink out of her own bowl.

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2017 18:57

I too have an adult version of a sippy cup. This was a cocktail! Shock

I used to have pet rats who when let out for a run, often used to sit on my shoulder and drink wine out of my glassGrin oh and grab any bits of food I was holding

LoveMySituation · 25/06/2017 19:09

If I can gatecrash a cat threadBlushGrin

cherrylove · 25/06/2017 19:20

I don't have a cat but my dog regularly drinks from mugs and glasses. His favourite is coffee but also loves water with ice cubes in a glass.

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2017 21:07

@LoveMySituation
I had a rat who had a favourite brand of lager. And he would do ANYTHING to get a sniff of Baileys! Grin

RubbishMantra · 25/06/2017 22:03

You're right Toddler. He maintains I am mistaken, and that a sheep broke in and did it.

LoveMySituation · 25/06/2017 22:14

Grin Wolfie, they're all secret alcoholics Grin What was the brand, out of interest?! Guess the urban legend about rats exploding if they drink fizzy drinks is wrongGrin

Toddlerteaplease · 25/06/2017 22:24

And he's quite right Mantra.
