Fattycat's mouth won't close

Fattycat can't close her mouth. I think she's yawned and it's locked. Threw some clothes in and straight out the house after a chase to catch her. Vet took her straight off me in case she was in distress. She's not though. I her and Snorg have a plot to kill me!!

Yes. I think I do need a lie down and a stiff drink, and I don't drink. Think the last few weeks have proved that my latest MS treatment is working. Last time something really stressful happened I relapsed really badly and nothing so far. The food the vet gave her has gone down well, but it stinks. They better not get used to it! Fatty has been running her face against things since I got in. Lover jaw looks swollen and I think she's a bit sore but otherwise ok.

Weeds, yes I think you might be right!

I recall reading about a dislocation, once, and the pain seemed to be when it was actually dislocated - and getting the joint back in. Once it's back in, there might, I guess, be some residual tenderness from any muscles that were pulled etc but the joint itself is fine if I recall. She should be fine. Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 04:58

She's very quiet and not come upstairs yet which is worrying me a bit. But seems ok. Her face looks more swollen than it did earlier. The vet wants to see her again today anyway.

Phew. She's lying on me and demanding fuss. And letting me tickle her chin. Purring her head off. I was so worried!

I dislocated my shoulder years ago and while the acute pain went once it was popped back in, it still felt stiff as if I had been doing extreme exercise when very unfit. Maybe it feels a bit like that? It does ease after a few days.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 10:17

Yes. I can imagine it must feel uncomfortable. She's had her melxoicam in some food. Worried about trying to syringe it in. She's also eaten some dry food. Though they are both loving being fed on pate. (Me not enjoying it be because it stinks) anyone know the difference between melxoicam and metacam?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 12:18

Meloxicam and Metacam are the same thing as far as I know - the first one is the drug name/active ingredient and the second is one of the branded products that carries it. (Seniorboy has a different branded product but it's still meloxicam as the active ingredient.) I'll stand to be corrected of course.

I'm glad she's on pain relief though. As long as she isn't full of the joys of spring with it and doing daft things. Wink

The vet I saw today was the one who saw her yesterday and says she thinks that their is a fracture. (Her colleague got confused apparently) but is happy that she's eating. She wants her to have soft diet for 4-6 weeks. Said that was unlikely to happen as the o my wet food they'll eat is cat pate and I don't want them both on that. (Snorg barges in and hoovers fattycat's up if she's not careful) so am adding water to their biscuits instead. They don't want her opening her mouth wide. They have special shaped biscuits anyway for their flat faces so should be ok. But she did say if she won't eat wet it's not the end of the world.

You have a plan of campaign, anyway? When - 'if at all' - does she have to go back? Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 13:24

She wants to see her again on Monday. But if I'm at all worried about her, I'll take her straight back to be seen. I suspect if it is fractured she's tried to climb/ jump onto her tree, missed and hit her chin on the lower levels of it. She's not the best jumper! But looks so hard to look dignified when she misses.

Does she do the moment of stunned silence, followed by an industrious grooming session, because she absolutely meant to do that complex manoeuvre, so she was in the perfect position to lick.....

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 14:27

Yes. And she looks round to see if I noticed. It's hilarious.

Dh put a cat flap into the gate because I was worried his furriness would jump and break his jaw.

Ndn make their cats jump down Sad

RubbishMantra · 21/03/2017 16:26

Ha, I put a shelf up on the tall wall in the garden so the boys wouldn't have to jump straight down off it, Fluffy.

Apparently the studious washing after doing something they didn't mean to do, like falling over, is "displacement activity" - so basically embarrassment.

Wishing fatty a speedy recovery.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 17:23

Thanks again all of you for your good wishes. I'm feeling a little bartered and bruised by all this trauma with this pair of reprobates.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 17:29

How are you feeling? It sounds as if you've done remarkably well all things considered.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 17:49

Feel a bit pole axed to be honest. Was still very on edge about Snorg then this happens. At least I'm on annual leave this week so do t have to worry about work as well.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 17:57

You've all done well. A long cool something or other is maybe called for this evening? Smile

RubbishMantra · 21/03/2017 18:11

Your poor nerves must be shredded. Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 21:14

They are rather shredded yes. She seems much more her usual self tonight. She says hello to her admirers. Not that you can see her face. She's busy having a vigorous grooming session.

Aww! Your cats are so beautiful! I am insanely jealous, despite your recent traumas!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 21:26

She's also quite happily trying to chew my hand if I get it in the wrong place. Hmm I need x Ray eyes!

Inarightpickleandchutney · 21/03/2017 21:48

I could look at photos all day long of fluffy Persian cats, it's actually really unhealthy.... But the fluffiness!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 22:29

Ha ha everytime we go to the vets I get loads of comments about how beautiful they are. They don't have very squashed up faces. They are the only Persians I've seen whose noses are much lower than their eyes. Apparently that's how they should be. Some more photos for your delectation!
