No. Hold firm. It's just this 'make-believe' that non cat owners go through. ('I'm not really feeding her - just give her the odd bit from the fridge.') It's their way of persuading themselves that it's OK. Wink

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 18:03

No! Each! cozie is right, of course Smile. For example, I had a very lovely lady at the garden gate asking me if Pip was mine. She was telling me how Pip comes to her begging for food Confused. I said that she must not feed her. Pip was abandoned and it took ages (years) for her to stop doing things like eating worms and she was more than adequately fed. The lady said 'Oh No. I don't. But she likes Bernard Matthews Turkey Ham'. Grin. I just smiled and said nothing. The nice lady then said 'Oh but she cries at the window, calling me her 'Ma'! Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/04/2017 18:07

I don't give ours titbits, Dh does so he eats a lot of meals with asbo sitting on the table just waiting. He never eats cheese alone.

He has a chicken breast to himself once a week so I don't feel guilty.

cozietoesie · 02/04/2017 18:21

I recall my mother discovering - after some time I may say - that Thirdcat, perfectly adequately fed at home, was batting his baby blues at a neighbour's house for 'little bits of ham' every lunchtime.

If you give in and start to give human food as a matter of regularity, all kitchen discipline will likely be lost. (Leaving aside that their diet might not be ideal for a cat.)

boolifooli · 02/04/2017 18:24

I think my slow cooking gammon is sending her loopy. She's in and out, in and out.

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 18:40

I would say it's OK to give some small 'human food' treats in very, very small amounts. Like a teeny piece of cheese. Or a little bit of say, boiled gammon Wink booli. Or a dab of butter. Frankie LOVES Beef flavoured hula hoops. He will come running from wherever his is if DP (and only DP) opens a packet. He will get 3 thrown for him to chase and that is IT.

The thing is with well meaning neighbours is that they will feed and feed unsuitable titbits to your cat. Then your cat will come home and sick up on your worktop Angry.

ElizaDontlittle · 02/04/2017 18:47

I suspect Ollie loves that you're ill. I am mid chronic fatigue syndrome relapse and it's only consolation given that I'm a bit miserable and very worried is that crazycat thinks it's the best thing ever.
She tolerated being stroked by someone else today. Vocally and briefly! Sunbathing and sleeping have been the major features of the day.

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 18:58

Mind you, I will of course, buy extra fish to cook for my two cats and my dog. So if I'm having fresh fish they will get a portion to share. Otherwise I would be a big fat meanie. No one wants to be that Grin.

cozietoesie · 02/04/2017 19:00

I'll confess, here, to giving Seniorboy whatsoever he fancied. I thought it would only be for a month or two though. Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 19:23

Heehee! cozie. That is very funny Grin. I work with Older Human Beings and the day that we had someone try and push a Healthy Eating course to a bunch of feisty 80 and 90 year olds was a wonderful thing. There does come a point where it really is OK to eat what you bloody well fancy!

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/04/2017 19:51

trust he came from a group of 60 cats removed from a house, so I suspect he has a fair few closely related clones out there! He normally looks black, but in sunlight he has those brownish bits. I read somewhere that it's a recessive tabby gene that does that in some black cats. Leroy is a other cat on here that's a dead ringer. He's very chatty now but was mute for several months when I first had him.

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 20:12

I'm completely confuzzled Weeds. Is your boy not called Leroy? Shock. Then there are many cats who look like the Exmoor Beast!

60+ cats Sad.

Trustyourself2 · 02/04/2017 20:14

Weeds,60!! How traumatic. How interesting bout the colouring. They're very beautiful cats, a bit like dark Ragdolls, I think. Mine doesn't bleedin' shut up! She's just popped out to see what else she can harass.

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/04/2017 20:23

heman mine is called Pendle, Leroy is another black fluffy beast!
We are up to 5 mice since Friday night trust, one body still missing...

cozietoesie · 02/04/2017 20:30

I'd count that as 4, Weeds, unless you have other evidence. Caught on returning, I guess.

Here's an article on "rusty" black cats.

HemanOrSheRa · 02/04/2017 20:45

Gawd. I am sorry Weeds me babber Wink. To be fair I've always called him bigboy in my head when I see photos you post! Pendle is an AMAZING name! I've got confused with Leroy who wears a harness and I have no idea of his Owner's user name Confused.

EachandEveryone · 02/04/2017 20:54

Is it just me or does anyone else love rhe sound of their cat eating? Mine has only just started to eat dry (the cattery did it) and i can hear her crunching right accross the flat and through the washing machine shes so loud. It really tickles me for some reason. Sometimes i just watch her ....... i need help

cozietoesie · 02/04/2017 21:21

I've always liked this sight and sound of the cats eating anything. I associate it with 'all being well in their world' and I enjoy that. Smile

EachandEveryone · 02/04/2017 21:35

Dear god the madam has just turned on me I've never seen or heard anything like it. She was chattering by the door wanting to go out. I told her it was too dark and late and she bloody started making awful noises and spat at me she looked so ugly it really scared me!!! I had to quickly go and get dabird. I'll never beable to watch line of duty at this rate!!

I cannot start letting her out after 9 I feel terrible but until the council demolishes what has turned into a rubbish tip/shelter for homeless people down the back it's just not safe. I don't think she would ever go there but I can't risk it.

LanaorAna1 · 02/04/2017 21:41

I specially feed Mr C his sweets in bed at night so I get the luscious sight of his fudgy jaws champing away at them, plus ear-splitting roars of appreciation. Then we go to sleep.

He does Deliberately Noisy Purring in the mornings (known as Anticipatory Purring to scientists) to wake me up. This is also adorable.

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/04/2017 21:41

No problem heman, bigboy is as good a name for him as any. He and Leroy look very alike and mine wears a harness on holiday Grin

She's proper gone off in a huff

What's your dcat doing today?
cozietoesie · 02/04/2017 21:45

Leave her to it then. She'll become fed up in due course. Smile

Ollivander84 · 02/04/2017 21:47

Ollies favourite are pork scratchings. He will howl and howl, steal one and take it off to a corner. Roll all over it in pleasure and chirrup then crunch it down loudly
