I picked up our two rescue kittens this afternoon who have evened up the male to female ratio in our house

We have one short haired one who is the timid one of the pair and a long haired one who is a bit more confident. They're just exploring their new main room.

I'm a bit confused by the rescue centre paper work that says their DOB is 12th December. Surely these are older than that. They told us they were 14 week last weekend.

The little one on the right looks to have eyes that are in the middle of changing colour. If they're 14 weeks I'd ........be extremely surprised.

With pictures, it can be difficult. 5 or 6 weeks? I'd put them younger than 14 weeks anyway. The rescue may have made a mistake.

Well, Sorry - they have made a mistake. Somewhere. Their paperwork doesn't tie in with that which you were told.

They look less than 14 weeks, maybe phone the shelter and double check? Were they born there or are they guessing the age? They're very sweet however old they are!

I'd guess 8 weeks? Maybe 12th November rather than December?

Cats Protection foster carer....they look about 8 weeks to me which would make DOB c. 12 November.

It's very, very, very unlikely that any rescue centre would let kittens go before 8 weeks so I suspect they've mixed up Nov and Dec on the paperwork. Give them a call.

I'd phone the shelter tomorrow. (Did they have two or more young litters?) Either way, they're your girls now - but you do need to know how old they really are.

You're right, they're ours now.

I think they were left at the rescue centre before Christmas so perhaps the 12th is the date they rescued them. I will call tomorrow.

I've never quite understood 'tails'. Sometimes they're theirs and sometimes not.

I'm afraid of you don't know the correct DOB you are not fit to look after them. I must come immediately and rescue them from you!

They still haven't slept. They're leaping and prancing all over the place when they're together . How can I help them to sleep?!

As kittens?? Other than putting on a fire that they can bask in front of - eg the gas fire if you have one - I'm not sure that it's possible. Kittens are just little machines - Play, eat, evacuate, sleep .......and repeat .......and repeat. (Not necessarily in that order.) They'll likely just suddenly crash and start snoring.

At that age they need 4 small meals a day I believe ( a while since I've had a kitten), so yes, I'd give them some more.

I used to feed mine on demand.

Night 1 went well. I came down to feed them just after 6am so not too early.

The girls are 't truly black. have grey roots for some reason?! Also the short haired one seems to have some slight paler stripes.

And also, they poo like new-bloody-borns AKA all of the time x2.
