Terrified of cats but one's in need of rescue...

I'm terrified of cats. No real reason but I scream and run anytime I see one. It's an instinct. I will literally run for my life if I see one, maybe it's the claws or the teeth. I have nightmares about them too.
There's a cat at the bottom of our garden, has been for two days and looks pregnant. She is HUGE! The kids have been out to look at her and have confirmed her hugeness as has DH when he was here. He's gone on a business trip. He put food and water out for her and I've managed to get my 7yr old and 9yr old to put more out. I think she's close to birth and want to bring her in the house so she doesn't give birth in the cold winter.
Is this the right thing to do or should I leave her there?
I do have knowledge as to how to care for a cat as my best mates both have them.

How amazing the vet came round on a Saturday!

DubiousCredentials · 03/12/2016 20:28

Awww nicest thread ever Flowers

fuzzywuzzy · 03/12/2016 21:17

Suburban our vets are open all day Saturday and half day Sunday and available 24/7 for emergency appointments altho they cost more.

We had a scary time when one of our boys had crystals in his urine and couldn't use the litter tray.

MontserratCaballe · 03/12/2016 21:18

So please to hear your news, Jedda. Huge congratulations Flowers

And so amazing of you to take on Mary when you are so scared of cats. You have given her a wonderful start. I hope you can sort out a good home for the kittens now (and keep Mary plus one yourself)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/12/2016 21:19

Yeah, my vet is open Saturday and Sundays, it's great!

Vinorosso74 · 03/12/2016 21:34

Wow amazing thread! Congrats on cat babies and your own human one.

theconstantinoplegardener · 03/12/2016 21:37

Congratulations Jedda! I'm sorry to put a dampner on things but you will now have to take certain precautions around the cat. It is mainly the litter tray that you need to be careful of, because of the danger of toxoplasmosis from cat faeces. So ask your husband if he would be able to empty/clean out the litter tray when he is home (it needs to be every 24 hours). In the mean time, wear gloves and wash your hands well afterwards. Good luck!

ChocolateForAll · 03/12/2016 21:51

What a lovely thread! Lots of new additions in your house! Congratulations! As PP said, no more touching cat litter, though. Can you post a pic of the kittens? I'd love to see them.

Thecontentedcat · 03/12/2016 22:37

🙀😺😺😺 congratulations on all your good news!

SuburbanRhonda · 04/12/2016 00:40

My vet is open too on a Saturday morning but would be unlikely to do a home visit for a straightforward birth, so it's great yours did, OP.

AddToBasket · 04/12/2016 07:39

Congratulations!

How is the cat phobia?!

Ilovenannyplum · 04/12/2016 07:46

Well done OP and congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

SuburbanRhonda · 04/12/2016 09:51

Place-marking for photos - any chance, OP?

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2016 10:05

Well done. It's Litter Tray rules to post kitten pictures. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/12/2016 10:20

Yes,we need pics!

ElizaDontlittle · 04/12/2016 17:51

Ah, congratulations 5 times over!
And yes - someone else should really be cleaning/ changing the litter tray and any kitten accidents.
I'd probably go for Caspar and Melchior (2 wise men) and Elizabeth and Anna (two ladies from the Christmas story). Hope you are getting some joy from your bundles of cuteness!!

therealpippi · 04/12/2016 17:58

Pictureeeeeees!!

SuburbanRhonda · 04/12/2016 21:35

FlissMumsnet · 05/12/2016 09:31

We've no reason to think OP is anything other than genuine so please, no troll-hunting here, it'll ruin this gorgeously heart-warming thread! Smile
