Terrified of cats but one's in need of rescue...

I'm terrified of cats. No real reason but I scream and run anytime I see one. It's an instinct. I will literally run for my life if I see one, maybe it's the claws or the teeth. I have nightmares about them too.
There's a cat at the bottom of our garden, has been for two days and looks pregnant. She is HUGE! The kids have been out to look at her and have confirmed her hugeness as has DH when he was here. He's gone on a business trip. He put food and water out for her and I've managed to get my 7yr old and 9yr old to put more out. I think she's close to birth and want to bring her in the house so she doesn't give birth in the cold winter.
Is this the right thing to do or should I leave her there?
I do have knowledge as to how to care for a cat as my best mates both have them.

I don't envy you trying to do bed time with a heavily pg cat in the house.

1000 & 1 questions.

llangennith · 02/12/2016 21:27

Well done OP. We've had many strays over the years and they don't need help giving birth. They like a bit of peace and quiet. Go to bed
at your usual time.

timtam23 · 02/12/2016 23:28

Well done OP and good luck. None of these places are in NW Manchester (although they are Manchester area) but they may be able to help or suggest other places:
Millstream animal sanctuary (Tameside area - Droylsden)
On Facebook: Rescue Kitties Manchester (Levenshulme area, they are volunteers who rescue & foster abandoned/stray/feral mother cats + kittens with a view to spaying the mums & rejoining as many as possible. although it's mainly south/east Manchester they do try to help elsewhere as best they can, despite being overwhelmed with kittens)
Also: Little Lions cat rescue, similar area of Manchester, also on Facebook & also volunteers who rescue/foster

timtam23 · 02/12/2016 23:29

Rejoining = rehoming

Showmetheminstrels · 02/12/2016 23:40

Oh bless her. And you!

She chose well.

therealpippi · 02/12/2016 23:45

Oh well done OP. I feel fir you though, if you have fallen in live with the mum so quickly I cannot imagine how you'll be ince the kittens arrive!

You don't have to do much but keep her safe and quiet and don't let the children bother her for the first few days.

Envious. Smile

myoriginal3 · 02/12/2016 23:46

I need an update and pics.Wink

therealpippi · 02/12/2016 23:47

The dc and I stayed up when mine gave birth. It is always amazing.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/12/2016 00:03

Give her a bit of space and well done for helping her. You'll be a cat convert once those kittens arrive!

OhHolyFuck · 03/12/2016 00:10

BagelGoesWalking · 03/12/2016 01:30

That's so amazing, well done Grin that must have taken a lot of courage! She must be so relieved to have been let into a lovely warm house. Hoping for updates tomorrow.

Glastokitty · 03/12/2016 01:38

Awww this is heart warming, well done you for getting over your fear. I am a mad cat lady and SO JEALOUS, Grin

80schild · 03/12/2016 01:49

Just so you are aware it may take a while to get help. Be careful she doesn't get too attached.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/12/2016 02:36

Well done. If the cat let a complete stranger pick her up then hopefully she's a friendly little thing.

torthecatlady · 03/12/2016 03:03

What a lovely thread! Thank you for bringing her inside! I can't wait to hear an update. Flowers

ElizaDontlittle · 03/12/2016 03:48

Wow! Jedda that's such a kind and lovely thing to do, and courageous. Maybe you and Mary will help each other here. Hope she has happy healthy kittens by the morning. Xmas Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2016 08:39

I wonder if she was kicked out when her owners found out she was pg?.

JungleWait · 03/12/2016 08:43

Wow you are amazing! I'm also terrified of cats, but I don't think I'd have the courage to pick up a cat. A very well done! Keep us posted please

longdiling · 03/12/2016 08:43

Wake up and update us immediately! What an amazing thing to do when you're scared though Jedda.

Badcat666 · 03/12/2016 09:07

drinks coffee and waits for update (when I should start cleaning house)

sluj · 03/12/2016 09:15

Well done for helping her when she most needs it. You are a star

I hope all goes well with the birth. I wonder if it's worth ringing a vet or RSPCA though to check for a chip? She might have extremely anxious owners somewhere. She is obviously used to human contact.

Good luck - looking forward to the updates

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2016 09:25

Vets usually chip when they neuter them, it's possible she's chipped but more likely puss wasn't chipped if she's already pg.

It's cheaper to just shut the door on them when they start to show Sad

acatcalledjohn · 03/12/2016 09:27

This is amazing! You have been chosen so just roll with it, as cats are very good at choosing their slaves and getting said slaves to work for them immediately!

Well done for facing your fear too and caring about her wellbeing.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/12/2016 09:29

Oh well done OP!!Smile

Soubriquet · 03/12/2016 09:39
