think I may have to find Nobby another home

Thought they had a truce but it lasted only a day...Sherlock will no longer come in the house willingly. I have to haul him in on a night if I can find him and put Nobby outside. I hate doing it but Sherlock must come first.

I cant find Nobby's original owner despite extensive search so am looking for a new forever home. Have asked locally and noone wants him . Dies anyone on here have any advice or suggestions? Am in NE England. Bit upset about this to be honest but our lovely ginger boy is so distressed

Some rescues will do adopt from home rather than carting them off to the shelter itself. Can you set him up with some outdoor shelter? Some cats just never resign themselves to an interloper, it's sad, but of course your loyalties are to the existing cat. Poor Nobby.

I had this with Seniorboy and The Lodger. The Lodger is one of the nicest cats I've ever met but Seniorboy detested and despised him. It was never going to work although Goodness Knows, I tried.

Does nobby have his shed or is he roaming at night?.

Do you have a cats protection league where you are? Try your local vets, they may have trusted clients who are looking for a cat.

He has a shed with catflap. Its insulates as well and boarded out but still not the cosy home I envisaged for him. He's at the back door as soon as he sees the kitchen light on and in like Flynn when I open the door. He must be feeling a bit funny as well as he's now totally silent and has been for two weeks...not a single meow

I don't just kick him out into the night , dh insulated the shed with thick polystyrene boards and haedboarded over . It's a lot warmer.in there than outside and he has a a choice of igloo beds up off the floor but I would still prefer him in a home...i really don't like cats being out at night

It's not what either of you thought he might achieve, I know. Just keep on trying.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and advice. Local shelters aren't taking any cats in..full to the brim..so we'll just have to try an manage unto we can find him somewhere. I hoped the zylkene and feliway friends diffuser would help but don't think it has although Sherlock enjoys his laced prawns everyday!

Poor Nobby - he just won't understand.

You gave him such a good start on a new life though.

(It's just a pity that Sherlock is immovable, emotionally. The Zylkene is likely stopping any serious aggression but you can't stop him voting with his feet.)

No one can say you haven't tried, I'd love another cat but ours is an only cat too.

You've tried, what more can you do? He looks like a lovely sweet cat from your other thread. I fretted that I'd done the wrong thing by adopting Little M, it seemed to be making MCat (original cat) upset. Luckily it worked out, but Little M was a kitten, so MCat could boss him about. There's no way he'd have accepted an adult.

You've been kind to make the lad his own warm space and regular food/water. If the situation is sustainable until he can be found a home, put him on the list with all local cat charities for re-homing? Does he have a self heating pet pad in his igloo beds?

yes he does Rubbish- he has three beds in total and one is a home made affair from a large polystyrene lidded box stuffed with straw so very cosy. At the minute he is snoring on my chair having been inside since 6am- Sherlock is on 'his' chair in the sunroom also snoring so all is quiet

an update:

I contacted a few rescue places inclucing one lovely place. They were all full and expected to be for some months to come but the other day i had a text from someone who had been given my number by The Ark as they know each other. They were looking for a cat for their mother (an experienced cat owner) and want Nobby name and all

He will be going next weekend and I expect he will be spoiled rotten; will miss the little chap as he is lovely but this is the best solution for everyone

Fantastic news! I know you'll miss him but you couldn't have tried any harder. We were in a similar situation when we were adopted by William, he chased Harry out of the house and Harry had to be my priority. William went to live with my Mum and lived out his days in luxury.

Sherlock is fine, slept on his 'dad's' chair all night, and looks like he's heading for Sister's bed today 😊. Dc are a bit sad esp my son but know its for the best.

I've asked for updates now and again and they are happy to provide. He'll be living the high life in Northallerton, can picture Nobs being in Betty's Tea shop with his new owner.
He went off with a very lovely tartan collar, Whiskas Xmas stocking and a box of Felix nosh
