Ye gods, my cats gone and got herself knocked up

Confused

She's a beautiful pure breed birman. We've had her just over a year. We bought her off a family member who has bred birmans for years and she was from the last litter ever. She was the only girl and we had decided with them that we would keep her for breeding possibly one litter (family member shows cats all over the country). Hence why she hasn't been spayed.

She started calling in June and we kept her in for a week. She stopped calling and everything seemed fine, we let her back out again. Around this time I took her to the vet as she seemed off her food, vet gave me some overrid? to stop her ovulating as ideally we didn't want her having a littler until she was older.

Last week she seemed to suddenly explode, checked her nipples and yep pink and huge. She's bloody pregnant! I don't think she got pregnant in June as she would have had them by now. So no signs of calling and the overrid doesn't seem to have worked.

Except now I have no idea how far along she is! She's pretty big, very big pink nipples and I can feel the kittens moving around inside her so I don't think she's got very long to go.

Family friend is away for a month so is no help. What do I do?! Does she need to go to the vet? I've been reading up and it all seems straightforward but it's a pain not knowing when exactly she's due.

I've got her a nice box and old blankets for the birth, is there anything else I need to do?

It's the seeming lack of attention to their toileting and cleaning that makes me a little edgy - young kittens need stimulation to be able to evacuate and you don't need their systems 'backing up'.

Ahhh. I'm sorry to hear mum's not doing so well. This is obviously clutching at straws here, but can animals suffer baby blues and PND like we can.
I remember when my dd was 3 days. I cried all day, and was just not interested in her. I was fine after that, though.
If this is her first litter. She's still learning obviously.
Hope things improve

Can you imagine how confusing it would be? I wondered about this when my cat had her first litter - did she know in advance that they were coming? She was the baby of the household and then, all of a sudden, she was responsible for four little lives. Luckily, she took to it like a duck to water but still, it could have easily gone wrong.

We knew a cat who used to trample her kittens to death. The breeder took the hint and spayed her.

Mind you I can think of some inattentive human mums too.

How are they all doing OP? Have been following from the beginning and they are all gorgeous.

TyrionLannisterforKing · 22/09/2016 01:19

Another one placemarking. Congratulations for the kittens! They are all so beautiful and their markings so distinct... Do keep us updated.

saffronwblue · 22/09/2016 02:23

Hope the Mum and babies are getting on OK. Poor thing looks so tired and cranky in your photos I remember that feeling .

SiaMia · 22/09/2016 07:41

Much better. I think she wanted out of that drawer, she'd been sleeping in another of the drawers and has moved the kittens there! On top of all my clothes Hmm

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 22/09/2016 10:19

Oh brilliant. Glad she's feeling better
She was probably feeling a bit melancholy.

CremeBrulee · 22/09/2016 14:41

Glad she is doing better and that she has chosen a sensible place to move the kittens to. Cat usually move from the site of the birth as the blood etc would attract predators.

Fraggleyourock · 23/09/2016 13:05

They are gorgeous!!! I want one so badly but can't because DP is allergic Angry! I guess just be grateful she didn't give birth on your clothes, Op!

The little grey is my favourite. So gorgeous. The black one has white chest markings, keeps getting pushed out when feeding so having to make sure she/he gets fed enough

Trying to upload a video to imgur but it says video type not supported Angry

Blimey! Last time I checked in there were two big uns now, unless they're lying in a muddle of socks, there are dozens! Utterly gorgeous and all with homes to go to, you say?😄

FoxesOnSocks · 24/09/2016 08:29

Oh my!! The cuteness.

Mother Cat did look very FML in the pictures above, glad to here she's doing better.
