Ye gods, my cats gone and got herself knocked up

Confused

She's a beautiful pure breed birman. We've had her just over a year. We bought her off a family member who has bred birmans for years and she was from the last litter ever. She was the only girl and we had decided with them that we would keep her for breeding possibly one litter (family member shows cats all over the country). Hence why she hasn't been spayed.

She started calling in June and we kept her in for a week. She stopped calling and everything seemed fine, we let her back out again. Around this time I took her to the vet as she seemed off her food, vet gave me some overrid? to stop her ovulating as ideally we didn't want her having a littler until she was older.

Last week she seemed to suddenly explode, checked her nipples and yep pink and huge. She's bloody pregnant! I don't think she got pregnant in June as she would have had them by now. So no signs of calling and the overrid doesn't seem to have worked.

Except now I have no idea how far along she is! She's pretty big, very big pink nipples and I can feel the kittens moving around inside her so I don't think she's got very long to go.

Family friend is away for a month so is no help. What do I do?! Does she need to go to the vet? I've been reading up and it all seems straightforward but it's a pain not knowing when exactly she's due.

I've got her a nice box and old blankets for the birth, is there anything else I need to do?

Aww lovely 😻 They are HUGE. Mummy looks absolutely shattered poor wee love xx

But, seriously, they eat the placenta? I'm barely able to stop myself puking, thank fuck I didn't actually see her do it.

There's no way on this little green earth I'm going to be present at a cat giving birth. No. Way.

RockinHippy · 20/09/2016 00:35

Oh wow, congratulations Smile

& I agree, they are hugeShock

My old cat had 2, (actually gave birth on my chest in the middle of the night) she was a huge cat, but the kittens where tiny compared to these

Good morning 💤

I feel like I've had a baby, no sleep! Kept getting up in the night to little squeaks and rearranging kittens. The all black one keeps getting pushed out by the others when feeding so I have to keep making a little space for it to feed.

I'd rather she didn't move them herself, I've got a very curious toddler so need them somewhere I can keep a door shut.

Nooooooo not keeping one! They've all got homes already thankfully.

Feral cat is a farm cat, I think it's actually owned by the farm. I'm not too sure it's the dad of all of them but it is a huge cat so possibly. No mummy isn't going out at all. I think I said earlier that mummy is the last female of her line. Lots of prize winning show cats, the idea was to have one pedigree litter from her to keep the line going. She was the only girl in her litter. I'll have to have a think now!

I think in your situation I would go for a second pure breed litter!

MalodyandJim · 20/09/2016 06:23

This one has amazing markings!

And the grey one is so unusual looking, can't wait to see if they have mummy's eyes.

Oh they are just too cute

SoupDragon · 20/09/2016 07:42

Good lord, they are ugly!

tell you what, I'll take them off your hands. No point in making other people take them and suffer their ugliness...

Wink
cariboo · 20/09/2016 07:57

Oh! Sooo deliciously cute!

GerundTheBehemoth · 20/09/2016 08:05

They are gorgeous - well done MalodyCat. The grey one looks like a blue tabby - dilute version of 'normal' brown tabby - there aren't many of them around.

It's unlikely any of them will have blue eyes when adult as they're all dark (kittens with the partial albinism 'pointed' pattern, which is linked to blue eyes, are pretty much pure white at birth). But they will definitely all be stunners :)

saffronwblue · 20/09/2016 09:07

What an amazing little new family to have in your bedroom.

TheCompanyOfCats · 20/09/2016 09:37

how is mama today? My cat went into super-love-mode after giving birth. Is she on cloud 9?

TheCompanyOfCats · 20/09/2016 09:38

I can't wait to see pictures of them two weeks from now (hint, hint!) when they are all fluffed up and toddling around. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

HighBrows · 20/09/2016 09:52

They are delicious, well done Mama cat. Enjoy.

HighBrows · 20/09/2016 09:53

HoneyDragon · 20/09/2016 12:51

Soup you're so noble and self sacrificing Grin

SoupDragon · 20/09/2016 12:54

I know, right?

I also already have a giant dark tabby so they'll fit right in (He's not the father)

rhiaaaaaaaannon · 20/09/2016 13:09

Oh my goodness how cute! Well done mummy cat.
This is making me so kitten broody.

TheCompanyOfCats · 20/09/2016 15:12

ooodgywooooooodgypuddintats!

DoctorTwo · 20/09/2016 16:06

Oh my word, they're huge for day old kits. No wonder their mother's knackered...

cozietoesie · 20/09/2016 17:14

Give her 48 hours and some food and she might be thinking lewd thoughts again. Some cats have real stamina! Grin

takesnoprisoners · 20/09/2016 17:24

I am willing to share the burden of their ugliness with SoupDragon. Fuck it. They are way too cute OP. I want!!

Janey50 · 20/09/2016 17:28

Nothing useful to add,but I can't wait to see the pictures of the babies!
