An AIBU for The Litter tray. :) re: food bowls

So we've had our kitten a week and a bit. He's settled all is well etc etc.

So who is BU, my gf or me?

I wash up every day, I line it all up in the work top, glasses, dinner plates, small plates, bowls, cups/mugs, Kittens bowl, cutlery, cooking implements and finishing with greasy stuff.

My gf was quite taken aback that I wash the kittens bowls with our stuff,
"It's had cat food on it"
My stance is it doesn't matter as cat food is very little difference than washing one of our plates that's had meat and gravy on.

So, AiBU to wash up kittens bowls with everything else?

I wash the cat food bowls in the sink using the same water but I pop them to the side and wash when everything else is done

I do the same as Needa, but I also use a separate sponge for their stuff.

Um. Yuck. I wash up our stuff. Take the bowl out of the sink. Wash up cat stuff in sink. With separate brush.
Cats lick their arses. Then lick their bowls. Do you want cat arse on your cutlery?!

Think of it this way, you wipe your arse, touch your genitalia etc. But you wash your hands in hot soapy water and don't worry about it. I wash cat bowl and cutlery in hot soapy water, why does that mean it still has cat arse on it?

We use separate water when handwashing them every day, but every weekend or so I'll chuck them in the dishwasher with our stuff.

I know it's just food. Food I wouldn't want to eat, but food nonetheless.

But I still end up washing his bowl after ours. It's just habit. I do happily stick them in the dishwasher with the rest of all our stuff too though.

Ours go in the dishwasher with our stuff. Before we had a dishwasher, they were washed in with our stuff too.

I acknowledge that there isn't a horizontal surface in this house that hasn't had a cat arse on it at some point.

Cats stuff gets washed in a different sink. I know it shouldn't matter.

I wash my hands in running hot water. The dirty water runs away.
Washing cat bowls in a washing up bowl isn't the same.

I shove them in the dishwasher with everything else because I am not a wierdy germphobic fraek.

Mine go in the washing up bowl last, left to soak then fresh water & a wet wipe to wash it with, which is thrown away.

Fresh bowl every mealtime, fresh water twice a day.

They go in the dishwasher. I really can't worry about it.
My cat puts her arse on everything, I am resigned to it.

So dishwashers are OK but washing by hand with everything else is bad.

Same water, just washed last. I really can't get too worked up about it when he goes wherever he wants and spends half his day asleep on my bed!

Well I've survived up until now! There's no way I'm shutting him out so I can't stop him sleeping on the bed.

Mine sleep on the bed. It's not the same though. I don't lick the sheets or eat my dinner off the duvet!

I wash in same water but after everything else.
I guess logically there's no reason not to wash it all together but the idea just bothers me.

Before the dishwasher...

Human bowls always first followed by cat bowls, then the oh bugger a stray mug dilemma, for me still washed seperate.

Now all in dishwasher when washing on a high temperature, still sometimes bothers me.

No issue with them sleeping on the bed, my cat weirdly sleeps on his back on the bed with his legs a kimbo, so he is obviously a much more considerate feline than some of these ones above that go about wiping their arses on things

Also wondering if Wolfies cat sits looking up with loving eyes whilst Wolfie eats thinking i was in the cutlery draw last night

All dog, cat and chicken bowls in the dishwasher with our stuff.

I think washing anything in a bowl of dirty water is grim. Everything got chucked in to soak together, then water was drained and everything washed under running water, so it's rinsed and clean at the end.

Human stuff goes in dishwasher - I think it would be OK for cat bowls to go in too, but OH disagrees, so cat bowls are washed by hand separately. The drying-up cloth is replaced straight away, so not used for human stuff after being used for cat stuff.

Dishwasher is different to washing by hand as it reaches much higher temperatures so is more hygienic.

We don't have a dishwasher so don't have that option. I wouldn't even think of replacing the tea towel just because I'd dried a clean cat bowl!
